Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The item is to be stored in a square, cotton-lined metal box that measures 10cm on each side. The box is to be kept in a climate controlled room. All interaction with SCP-XXXX should be video recorded and an interview conducted with all subjects who come in contact with the item due to the difficulty in observing the phenomenon.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a preserved human toe. It appears to have been cleanly cut from the left foot of a human male. The item seems to have dehydrated naturally. No wrappings or chemicals have been detected on the item.
The item was discovered in an abandoned automobile during an investigation of the disappearance of former Foundation researcher Dr. Edward Boorman.
If a subject holds SCP-XXXX between their thumb and index finger, the subject will instantly find themselves holding the toe of middle-aged caucasian man who is sitting in an armchair reading a newspaper. The man does not seem to notice or detect the subject. It appears that the subject and the man are in the living room of a modest 20th century American home. The newspaper that the man is reading is titled The Oregonian and has a visible publish date of February, 14 1986.
The subject will hear a door bell ring after approximately 3 seconds, quickly followed by a woman's voice in an adjacent room who shouts "Ed, can you get that?" At this point the man folds the newspaper and stands.
If alignment between the toe and the man's foot is broken, the vision vanishes and the subject finds themselves in their original location holding the toe.
The man reading the newspaper strongly resembles Dr. Edward Boorman. Dr. Boorman worked with the Foundation from 1986 until 2013 specializing in interdimensional physics. He resigned after he was the focus of an investigation into mishandling of sensitive materials. Dr. Boorman was reported missing three weeks later. Both police and Foundation investigations resulted in no leads.
Addendum: Several attempts have been made to track the man's movement in the vision and maintain alignment of the toe and foot. One subject was able to maintain alignment through one complete foot step (approximately 7 seconds).
All subjects have remained in view during contact with SCP-XXXX. There has been no detectable evidence of the man or the room by any equipment during any experiments.
Further testing has been suspended. A request has been sent to research logistics for assistance in utilizing robotics or designing an automated tracking method due to the difficulty in the required dexterity and choreography.
