Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is kept in a secure 15cm x 15cm x 15cm glass case in the office of Dr. ██████. SCP-XXXX can be removed from the case for testing but only with the permission of Dr. ██████
SCP-XXXX is to be sealed in a steel cube and stored in storage container █ on Site-██. Access is now strictly prohibited.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small red box, with a height of 5cm and a width and depth of 10cm. The box has a rippled pattern carved into its surface. Attempts to take samples from the box have proved unsuccessful as it seems impervious to any type of damage. The object bears a significant resemblance to [DATA EXPUNGED]. Research into the creation of SCP-XXXX and [DATA EXPUNGED] is still ongoing.

Multiple different scans of the object have concluded that there is nothing inside. However when observing the inside subjects will report seeing a small light of roughly 1cm in diameter. The light is non-intractable, cannot be manipulated and will remain hovering in the centre of the box at all times. Any pictures taken have what appears to be a large burn mark covering the spot where it should be. This is also true for video footage.

Subjects that view SCP-XXXX will, after the initial exposure, begin to develop urges to see SCP-XXXX again. These urges will grow stronger the longer the period between exposures to SCP-XXXX to the point where they become uncontrollable. Subjects that reach this point will often attempt to access SCP-XXXX at the cost of their own well being. If a subject is exposed to SCP-XXXX again these urges will subside. However, as with initial exposure, the subject will once again develop the urge to see SCP-XXXX over time. The length of time between these urges decreases with each exposure to SCP-XXXX.

Addendum - Discovery
SCP-XXXX was initially discovered in an abandoned town on an island off the coast of ████████, █████. For several months people had been reported missing after visiting the town. After a Foundation Agent visited the island and found that a small cult had formed around SCP-XXXX, more Agents were sent in to retrieve SCP-XXXX. The missing people who made up the community were terminated after proving hostile to the Agents attempting to remove SCP-XXXX from the island. It was then placed under the supervision of Dr. ██████ in Site-██.

Addendum 09/01/20██
Dr. ██████ disables Site-██ security and retrieves SCP-XXXX. In the resulting confusion SCP-███, SCP-██, and SCP- ████ also escape. On site warhead is detonated and the escaped SCP’s are retrieved. SCP-XXXX is undamaged and is moved to Site-██ where it is sealed away and further testing is prohibited.

INPUT LEVEL 1 SECURITY CREDENTIALS

“Subject expired after two weeks of non-exposure. Hysterics ended roughly one week into confinement. Subject refused to talk to anyone who visited. Two days before termination subject broke free from confinement causing massive harm to his own body and attempted to get to SCP-XXXX. █ personnel were harmed during the re-containment of the subject. For the rest of the time until his expiration subject kept on repeating the same phrase, “Burning”, until his throat gave out. Even after this subject kept mouthing the phrase although he could no longer speak. Two previous subjects also displayed similar symptoms late into non-exposure. Subject expired due to multiple lacerations to the body during his previous escape.”

INPUT LEVEL 1 SECURITY CREDENTIALS

“Subject expired after roughly two months of non-exposure. Subject was administered a class A amnesiac and released back into the general population. Subject was monitored during this time. Roughly one week after taking the amnesiac, subject began to experience standard symptoms. Subject begins to visit a psychiatrist to help with this. After roughly nine days after his first visit to a psychiatrist subject begins to take painkillers. Over the next few days subject stops visiting the psychiatrist and starts solely relying on painkillers. Subject becomes a recluse during this time until a month after taking the amnesiac when he leaves his home for two days. During this time subject obtains a large amount of opioids. After returning to his apartment subject doesn’t leave until he expires. During the last three weeks until he expired, subject begins self harming in addition to taking the drugs he obtained. During the last week until expiration subject takes to just self harming. Subject expired after causing significant damage to his eyes. Before this he had carved the words “BURNING” into his skin as well as multiple walls and surfaces in his apartment. Footage shows him chanting the word while rising in volume until his final act. More research needed into the connection between the phrase and SCP-XXXX.”

"I can't continue like this anymore. It's only a matter of time before this all falls apart, before the facade is removed and the true nature of what we're keeping here is revealed. I can feel it pressing beneath my skin. Burning behind my eyes. Oh god. The constant burning. It's taken over my thoughts. I no longer feel; physical pain, pleasure, these things have all been burnt away by desire. I don't just want to see the light anymore, I NEED to.
