Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within an opaque box and stored in a standard anomalous item locker at Site-██. SCP-XXXX's box may only be opened in a supervised, sealed testing chamber with no fewer than two armed guards present, all of whom are to be equipped with earplugs. Any persons subjected to SCP-XXXX-1 must be administered Class-A amnestics immediately after exposure or conclusion of testing.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an oval tablet made of physically unremarkable polished soapstone with several symbols engraved on one of its sides. In their actual form, as ascertained by computer analysis, the symbols do not correspond to any known language or writing system used by human civilizations. Despite this, all subjects have been able to understand SCP-XXXX without any previous research.

SCP-XXXX's perceived appearance seems to change to suit each observer. Subjects invariably perceive the symbols as valid script of the language they are most fluent in. All subjects report an identical phonetic representation of the perceived script despite their preferred languages not recognizing all of the phonemes present. Accurate transcription is not possible using the International Phonetic Alphabet.

SCP-XXXX-1 is the designation for the linguistic form encoded in SCP-XXXX's symbols. Vocalized utterances and attempts at written reproduction of SCP-XXXX-1, or the pantomime of such, will cause nearby entities to react in a hostile manner. Reactions within non-living objects, although currently not fully understood, have also been observed. This includes any medium a reproduction of SCP-XXXX-1 is being recorded onto. Examples include windows and doors shutting, power fluctuations within electric circuits, and various smaller objects shifting and collapsing. Living subjects affected by SCP-XXXX-1 may briefly express denial or surprise before becoming aggressive and attempting to exact punishment on the source of SCP-XXXX-1's reproduction. This behavior lasts until the reproducer expires and seems to be linked to the affected subject's moral values. Notably, subjects under the influence of SCP-XXXX-1 will actively avoid repeating it verbatim, preventing spread.

Addendum XXXX-01 - Recovery Log: On ██/██/20██, Foundation authorities were alerted by agents embedded in the police force of ███████, Canada to a case with suspected anomalous involvement. ██████ ███████, a ██-year-old male, was found dead in his apartment under a wall-mounted storage shelf with SCP-XXXX lying on the ground next to him. Cause of death was determined to be brain hemorrhage as a result of extreme blunt trauma to the cranium.1 During police investigation, an incident occurred in which SCP-XXXX-1's anomalous effect was triggered, resulting in █ casualties before Foundation agents were able to intervene. The incident was covered up as violent confrontation with the murderer of Mr. ███████. SCP-XXXX was identified, confiscated and delivered to Site-██.
