Item #: SCP-5247

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: No less than at least one primary jammer with a range of at least 50 kilometers, four secondary jammers with a range of at least 25 kilometers, or 25 tertiary jammers with a range of at least 10 kilometers are to be active in the Greater ██████ Valley Area to cover the area previously broadcast by SCP-5247. Refer to Map 36105 for an exact survey of the range of SCP-5247 for use to position jammers.

Task Force Sigma-7 "Disk Jockies" is to maintain manned listening posts 24, 53, and 79 and unmanned listening posts 8, 12, 35, 42, 55, 64, 67 and 73 at all times to monitor SCP-5247's frequency band and communications in the Greater ██████ Valley Area for any Errant Signal Events or generated instances of SCP-5247-A. Individuals under suspicion of being an instance of SCP-5247-A are to be closely monitored and analyzed by Sigma-7 specialists.

Upon detection of an Errant Signal Event or an instance of SCP-5247-A, Mobile Task Force Unit Epsilon-6 "Village Idiots" is to be deployed to set up signal jammers to any affected areas and contain any instances of SCP-5247-A. Contained instances of SCP-5247-A are to be transported to Site-27 for processing and eventual induction into Community-942 "The Pariah Sanctuary". Instances of SCP-5247-A that continually prove resistant to Foundation containment are to be disposed of. Instances of SCP-5247-A are to be terminated immediately. No exceptions.

Description: SCP-5247 is a defunct radio station broadcasting anomalous signals based in ███████, Oregon. Callsign KRZY, previously known as "KRZY Krazy Rock Radio", the station served more than ██,███ people in the Greater ███████ Valley Area from a period of 197█ until it's closure in 2███. To the public, the station closed due to a lack of funds, but [DATA REDACTED - SEE EXPLORATION LOG 5247-1]. Despite destruction of the original broadcast tower, at semi-random intervals SCP-5247 will broadcast anomalous signals in what is referred to as an "Errant Signal Event". Errant Signal Events are capable of occurring at any time, though have been observed more frequently between in the period between 11PM-7AM. The time between intervals has been observed to be anywhere from 2 hours to 46 days.

The contents of an Errant Signal Event are mostly random, but always are preceded by a slowed monotone voice reading the callsign of SCP-5247, followed by an audio broadcast. Observed contents have included: random audio tones such as SSTV signals or EAS headers; various alarms and klaxons ranging from weather warnings to nuclear warfare alerts; snippets of films and radio dramas ranging from as far back as the 1930s, including several that have never been made yet; snippets of radio and television airing of preachers sermons preaching of the current times as the end times; EAS broadcasts from random locations across the US, dating anywhere from 1997-2006 including some that never happened; Black Box audio from airplane crashes dating as far back as the early 1970s including some that never happened; anomalous news broadcasts depicting [DATA REDACTED] that have never happened.

Human subjects who listen to an Errant Signal Event for a sufficient period of 27 seconds or longer will become instances of SCP-5247-A. While no anomalous effects are immediately obvious and by all testing, humans are physically indistinguishable from SCP-5247-A, instances of SCP-5247-A will report depressive feelings after their first contact with an Errant Signal Event for anywhere from a week to up to a month, and any living beings exposed to an instance of SCP-5247-A will feel a sense of unease while around them, though this effect will lessen with repeated exposure to that instance of SCP-5247-A. Aside from these two symptoms, Foundation personnel have never directly observed any other anomalous affects. However, instances of SCP-5247-A have continually proven to be statistical anomalies. Areas in which an instance of SCP-5247-A move to will have higher numbers of natural disaster, higher rates of car accidents, and see an increase in violent and sexual crimes. 80% of subjects who personally interact for extended periods of time with an instance of SCP-5247-A will die of entirely explainable causes such as accidents in their workplace or physical ailments within the timeframe of seven years. Instances of SCP-5247 themselves will experience lower than average lifespans, higher rates of poverty, higher rates of depression and suicide and higher rates of mental illness or debilitating diseases such as cancer or dementia, though it is likely that these statistics are linked to other statistical anomalies. SCP-5247 was discovered when Foundation statisticians noticed these statistical anomalies in the Greater ██████ Valley Area.

Repeated listenings to Errant Signal Events results in [DATA EXPUNGED - Please see Addendum 5247-7].

Listening to recordings of an Errant Signal Event has had no known effect. Please refer to Vault-5247 at Site 27 for recordings of Errant Signal Events. RECORDINGS OF SCP-5247 ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED UNDER ORDER OF 05-7. NO EXCEPTIONS.
