SCP-5245
Item #: SCP-5245
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5245 is to be kept within a standard storage unit located at Site-22. SCP-5245 is only accessible to Level 2+ personnel. Testing of SCP-5245 is strictly prohibited until further notice1.
Description: At first glance, SCP-5245 appears to be a standard AA Battery of indistinct brand, no origin can be discerned from the stickers that cover it. However, when connected to the circuit of any piece of technology which requires an AA Battery, SCP-5245 will cause the item in question to enter a state of simulated sentience.
As soon as SCP-5245 is connected into a circuit of a piece of technology and until SCP-5245 is removed, the item will be referred to as SCP-5245-A. SCP-5245-A, in most cases, appears to be friendly towards any humans or animals that come within proximity of it. SCP-5245-A will show this attitude in any way possible. However, if a subject interacts with SCP-5245-A in a hostile demeanour, it will become timid and weary of the subject until SCP-5245 is removed. Upon removal and re-insertion, SCP-5245-A's memory of past experiences seems to reset.
After further examination and testing, it is believed that SCP-5245 acts as a brain for SCP-5245-A. This is because instances of SCP-5245-A seem to possess near-identical characteristics as previous instances. The range of the effects of SCP-5245 is listed in the table below2.
If SCP-5245-A requires multiple AA Batteries under normal circumstances, SCP-5245 will function properly without the aid of other power sources. SCP-5245's power seems to be infinite but, if used for an extended amount of time, SCP-5245-A will enter a 'low-power mode' where it will become indifferent and will seem more tired. To recharge, either SCP-5245-A must be deactivated, or SCP-5245 must be removed. Recharging can take 8-16 hours, depending on the length of previous use. Attempts have been made to completely drain SCP-5245's power. However, none such have been successful. It is unknown how SCP-5245 recharges.
Discovery: The Foundation was alerted to the existence of SCP-5245 after local authorities situated in Norfolk, UK contacted the Foundation about a remote-controlled drone that would act on its own free will. Field Agents were dispatched soon after to confiscate SCP-5245 and SCP-5245-A. It was originally believed that the current instance of SCP-5245-A was the source of the anomaly until further testing was approved.
Testing:
| Item | Result |
|---|---|
| A standard light bulb | SCP-5245-A flickered on-and-off to simulate different emotions. |
| A toy robot | SCP-5245-A interacted with nearby subjects by moving its arms around while using its legs to waddle across the room. When threatened, SCP-5245-A cowered in the closest corner with its arms over its head and its legs crouched. |
| A wireless speaker | SCP-5245-A played joyful music to nearby subjects. When threatened, SCP-5245-A played sad music. The origin of these pieces is unknown. |
| A handheld fan | When it was picked up by a subject in a hot room, SCP-5245-A began to cool them with the fan. However, when the subject continued to complain about the heat, SCP-5245-A ceased functionality. |
| A remote-controlled toy car | SCP-5245-A began to traverse around the room, performing daring moves and launching itself over a ramp placed nearby. SCP-5245-A also manoeuvred around obstacles placed around the room skillfully. |
| A handheld video game device | SCP-5245-A booted up and began playing games on the device. Note: SCP-5245-A performed exceedingly well at Tetris. |
| A TV remote | SCP-5245-A began selecting shows from available channels. Note: SCP-5245-A seems to favour cooking shows. |
| A radio transmission kit | Incident 5245-A-1 (██/██/1█): SCP-5245-A connected to a free station and began transmitting text-to-speech documents of multiple high-classification SCPs such as SCP-███, SCP-███, and SCP-████. It is unknown how many listeners SCP-5245-A had at this time or how it was able to access this information. This incident was unlike SCP-5245's usual behaviour and suggests that its motives are unlike what was previously thought. |
Due to Incident 5245-A-1, the test period allocated for SCP-5245 has been cut short. Testing will resume once proper security measures have been ratified.
