Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is attached to the face of Subject-XXX-1. Subject-XXX-1 is to be kept in a standard 3m x 3m containment cell. The Subject may be given any items requested so long such an item does not compromise security. When SCP-XXX is detached from Subject-XXX-1’s face, under no circumstances is any staff member to wear SCP-XXX or hold it near their face.

Description: SCP-XXX is a mask of unknown metallic origin with two straps of leather to act as a clasp protruding from the sides. When SCP-XXX is placed onto a person’s face, the consciousness of Subject-XXX-1 overwrites the consciousness of the person wearing the mask. Subject-XXX-1 assumes full control and mobility of the wearer’s body, as well as retaining personal information and memories. When SCP-XXX is removed from a person who wore it, the wearer goes into a comatose state. No way yet has been found to revive individuals to their previous consciousness following removal.
Close inspection of SCP-XXX has shown that while the mask appears to be regular silver, the exact metal it is made of is unknown. The mask seems impervious to long lasting damage; scratches made using a standard medical scalpel have vanished after a period of a 12 hours. Similar marks made on the leather straps remain, providing proof to the Subject’s claim that, quote, “the true power lies in the mask alone.” X-ray and ultrasound scans reveal a complex, web-like structure throughout the interior of the mask. It is currently unknown what this structure is made of, however observations have been made about the similarities between the web-like structure and the human brain’s layout of synapses, suggesting a similar purpose.

Through various interviews with Doctor ████, the subject has described how it came into contact with the mask. The Subject has repeatedly insisted that despite its limited memory, it recalls being given the mask almost 2000 years ago, apparently as a gift of some kind. It recounts not wearing the mask made them feel ill, and thus kept it on at all times. At some point however, the mask was removed, stolen according to the Subject. During this time, the Subject remembers its vision and hearing fading to black and silence, until it saw a variety of shapes and colors were seen tumbling through an empty void. Subject-XXX-1 claims that during this time, extremely painful headaches were a constant, with the pain ranging from mildly discomforting to high agony. It is unclear how long the subject remained in this state for. Eventually the mask was rediscovered and worn, causing the Subject to come back into our world, albeit in a different body. The Subject remains determined to not return to his so called “disconnected state’’ and in doing so has kidnapped multiple strangers over the years to have them wear the mask and thus control their bodies.

Further memories regarding the mask remain unclear.

SCP-XXX was obtained by the Foundation following an investigation into several disappearances in the —- forest, France. Out ward appearance at the time of capture was that of a Caucasian male, estimated late forties. Subject-XXX-1 was initially hostile towards the Foundation following capture, yet has been mostly cooperative once the purpose of the Foundation was explained.
The Subject is mainly comfortable answering questions about the mask and its own experiences. Yet suggestions of any type of experiments performed on the mask are met with reluctance, due to fears it will return to the “disconnected state”. Recently, the Subject has been shown to comply if certain requested books are given to it in exchange for experiments. So long as these books retain no information deemed hazardous to security, it is recommended they be transferred onto the Subject’s tablet. Keeping the subject calm and civil toward the Foundation is preferable, as its co-operation is extremely helpful during tests.

Addendum: On █/█/██, experiment-001 involving the subject took place under the supervision of Doctor ███. A male D-Class Personnel, guilty of murder, was placed in the Subject’s room. With the assistance of Agents ███ and █████, the D-Class Personnel was attached to a heart rate monitor and an EEG recording device. Subject-XXX-1 had the same setup.
Before testing took place, both the subject and the D-Class Personnel were given a separate code phrase to remember. Both code phrases were given in private.

The mask was removed by agent ███ and placed on the face of the D-class Personnel. After a 0ne minute and fifteen seconds, the heads of both the subject and D-class personnel slumped over suddenly. After three seconds, the D-class Personnel raised its head and claimed that it was Subject-XXX-1. Subsequent inquires proved this, with Subject-XXX-1 stating its code phrase. It also gave details regarding its past that matched Foundation records. The general demeanor of the D-class Personnel also changed to that of Subject-XXX-1’s, adopting styles of speaking and body language consistent with Subject-XXX-1. The original body of Subject-XXX-1 was comatose. All revival attempts were unsuccessful.

The heart rate monitor revealed there to be no major changes in Subject-XXX-1’s general heart rate, yet once its consciousness had transferred, the heart rate of the body originally belonging to the D-Class Personnel had risen significantly at the moment of transference.
Brain wave monitoring shows a complete change in the D-Class Personnel’s. Following a massive spike in activity, the data shows the subsequent activity to be the same as Subject-XXX-1

Following a MRI scan on both bodies Subject-XXX-1 has controlled, both scans show identical brain wave functions on the two bodies. This suggests the original body has retained the consciousness of Subject-XXX-1 and not returned to that of its previous inhabitant. Further tests are required to prove this.
