SCP-XXXX "The things in the dark"

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter (Pending Euclid)

Special Containment Procedures: Feral instances of SCP-XXXX are to be neutralized on sight by Mobile Task Force Mu-13 ("Ghostbusters"). Any news reports of mysterious deaths during night-time should be investigated by an foundation agent equipped with the standard "undercover" arms kit and a additional tracking dart in case the agent fails in the destruction of the SCP-XXXX instance. All news reports are to be covered up using appropriate concealment story. Any civilians with direct contact or knowledge of an SCP-XXXX instance is to be tracked down and amnestized. Any visual or auditory evidence taken by the aforementioned civilian are to be purged.

SCP-XXXX instances that are domesticated and used for Project "Sleep Givers"1 are to be contained in their respective keepers bedrooms. An PSG-X instance can be allowed out of their keepers bedroom on the condition that the keeper accompanies the instance.

Update 4/11/19██: As Project "Sleep Givers" nears completion, the PSG-X instances will be transferred to a Large Biological Anomaly containment chamber. Former keepers are allowed to visit their PSG-X instance once a month.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the collective designation of all SCP-XXXX instances.

SCP-XXXX instances are Level 5 Sentient Incorporeal entities. They habituate dark places, usually bedrooms, or places where humans or small animals sleep at. An SCP-XXXX instance can possess an inanimate object and distort the object for its needs. This property allows the instance to disguise itself.

SCP-XXXX instances prey on humans and small animals, preferably mammals. Once the selected prey enters REM sleep, the SCP-XXXX instance will approach the prey. Once it reaches within striking range, a long appendage will emerge from SCP-XXXX and strike at the throat of the prey, rendering it incapable of speech. It will then proceed to siphon blood from the prey into itself. Once the prey is exsanguinated, the SCP-XXXX instance may consume small quantities of flesh from the cadaver if the blood siphoned is inadequate.

SCP-XXXX instances can be caught off guard when the instance assumes the prey is asleep and and the prey wakes up and sees the instance. From previous such events, the instance is described to either attack the prey or flee the area, similar to the adrenaline response in humans.

The reproduction of SCP-XXXX occurs when two instances meet at a secluded location, almost always near a hole in the surroundings. The instances will seemingly "hug" and enter the hole nearby. After exactly 33 seconds, the two instances will emerge from the hole with smaller instance, presumably an infant. The infant is protected and fed by the parents up to 2 months, by then which it reaches maturity.

SCP-XXXX instances can be domesticated, and after doing so will not be hostile to humans. Utilization of this property is proposed.

Update 8/30/19██: Project "Sleep Givers", an proposal using SCP-XXXX to reduce the overall population of SCP-966, has been initialized. Over 100 instances of domesticated SCP-XXXX instances, now referred as PSG-X, have been trained to sense SCP-966 instances. Due to the alarming number of SCP-966 instances across the globe, the PSG-X instances will be released in major convergence points to neutralized and lower the population of 966 instances. Each PSG-X instance will be an infant, and trained by a selected keeper to locate and kill 966 instances.
