Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained on the floor of a plain sealed room with no windows or any other objects close to or near SCP-XXX. Size of the room does not matter, as long as no visable contact is made with SCP-XXXX with the naked eye. Personnel conducting tests with SCP-XXXX are to be supervised digitally via camera or speaker system. Physical contact with personnel conducting a test with SCP-XXXX is strictly prohibited unless expiration is imminent. See addendum.
Description:: SCP-XXXX was first discovered in a carpet warehouse in ████ USA on 02/19/20██ when three workers were accused of being under the influence of narcotics on the job, despite tests being negative. Expedited exposure to SCP-XXXX attracted the attention of the SCP foundation, and was successfully captured, and is currently contained in site ██. Warehouse employees were given class-B amnestics and were monitored discreetly for one week after the events had transpired.
SCP-XXXX is a 1 meter by 2 meter long carpet resembling a children's play rug, adorned with roads and buildings including but not limited to: houses, hospitals, stores, theatres and in some tests, cemeteries. Each instance of SCP-XXXX is unique, and observations made through video footage causes irritation on the human eye, coupled with an inability to get a good description of SCP-XXXX. Unanimous results of video observation show that SCP-XXXX appears to be a rectangle in the middle of the floor, but the designs of SCP-XXXX resemble a dark grey static instead of a town. Said static appears to devour light, causing strain on the human eyes through a monitor station.
Within two minutes of viewing SCP-XXXX, the personnel viewing the object via screen or monitor will have "itchy/scratchy eyes". After five minutes of prolonged viewing, personnel will experience migraines that continue for no longer than ten minutes, before it becomes unbearable. If an observer is to continue to monitor the object, they will begin to have audiovisual hallucinations. Individuals who continue to monitor the object after the hallucinations occur will experience similar effects to those who are interacting directly with SCP-XXXX. Personnel who both monitor and/or interact with SCP-XXXX are expected to complete a psych evaluation no later than forty eight hours after the test. It is recommended to wear PPE such as sunglasses when monitoring tests, to subdue the effects for as long as possible.
Addendum: The effects of SCP-XXXX vary for the individual interacting with the object, however a general consensus indicates initial feelings when interacting with SCP-XXXX are "nostalgic" regardless of who is interacting or viewing the object, even if they have never seen a similar object in their life. However, that is where the similarities end. See test logs SCP-XXXX.1, SCP-XXXX.2, SCP-XXXX.3 and interview log SCP-XXXX.3A [requires security clearance level 3]
*Test Log: SCP-XXXX.1*
Test Subject: D-0649, a healthy 22 year old male, charged with petty theft. Mentally strong.
Procedure: Subject entered the containment area to find the object on the floor. When prompted to give a statement on the object, subject responded with "brought back memories of (my) childhood." Subject was then told to sit on the object, and describe what they are experiencing. Subject gave a confused expression, but complied. Once subjects bare skin touched the rug, the subject was brought to tears. All attempts to contact subject were either ignored, or the subject was unable to hear the observers requests/demands. Subject continued to remain idle on the rug, the only change in the subject was they were smiling, laughing, or crying.
Test concluded at five minutes, when subject stood up, and thanked the SCP personnel for this experience. When questioned on what happened, subject revealed they were somehow transported back to his childhood, playing on a rug similar to SCP-XXXX, surrounded by their family and family dog on Christmas morning. Subject claims to have been able to smell their mothers Christmas cookies, and hear the crackling of the fireplace. When the subject asked how long they were "gone", staff told the subject they were idle for five minutes. The subject looked surprised, and claimed "that's strange, could have sworn it was much longer." Subject requested exit of the room. Granted.
Result: D-0649 somehow managed to fall into a repressed memory, it is unknown how SCP-XXXX accomplishes this, or where it actually takes test subjects. Requesting approval to conduct further tests, perhaps to alter the memory based on the analysis that at least two of the subjects five senses were seemed as real as real life. It is also unknown how the measurement of time is altered in this "memory".
*Test Log: SCP-XXXX.2*
Test Subject: D-0672, a 41 year old female, incarcerated for arson, severe burns across left side of face, left arm, and left hand. Slightly mentally unstable.
Procedure: Subject entered containment area to find SCP-XXXX on the floor, and was instructed to describe what they feel. Subject seemed confused, as if deep in thought. Subject replied, "I can't quite place it, but something is pulling at my mind like I should remember something." When asked if the subject has ever seen something like SCP-XXXX before, they said they have never been a fan of rugs, and has never seen anything like this before. Subject was asked to describe what they saw on the rug. Subject described that the setting looked dark, the roads were cracked and broken, there were beat up old cars parked alongside the roads, and the buildings were on fire. When asked to describe which buildings were on fire, subject turned hostile, demanding to know how they knew which buildings she burned down, and how they knew the area of her home town well enough to create a map of her neighborhood. Subject was demanded to sit on SCP-XXXX, and describe what they felt. Subject refused, and was threatened with termination. Subject complied.
Subject sat on the object, and was immediately sedated by the objects anomalous feathers. Subjects face smiled, as though she was extremely happy. Then the subjects left arm caught on fire, followed by their hand and then face. Subject "awoke", and began to scream and roll around the floor to put out the fires. Subject was consumed by the flames. SCP-XXXX remains unscathed of fire, burns, or blood.
Result: D-0672 expired. SCP-XXXX appears to be impervious to fire, or staining. Test length: twenty three seconds before spontaneous combustion, fourty seconds before subject realized they were on fire, ten minutes twenty two seconds until expiration. The objects anomalous properties seem to be able to alter the reality of the person within physical contact, even recreating wounds that happened in the past, with the same intensity as they were previously in their life. It is unknown which memories SCP-XXXX chooses to recreate. Previous hypothesis of pleasant memories being the trigger have been disproved.
Side note: Observer reported extreme progressive discomfort from watching the video feed, complained about irritated eyes and severe migraines. Observer also claimed they heard screaming and fire crackling even though the audio system was turned off. Requesting further testing.
*Test Log SCP-XXXX.3*
Test Subject: D-0699, 31 year old male, blind in right eye with scarring across right side of face. Self inflicted. Incarcerated for murder of over thirteen people. Severely mentally unstable with homicidal urges and severe insanity.
Procedure: Subject was escorted to the test chamber by two armed guards, who waited outside the testing area after the door was closed and locked behind the test subject. Unlike previous test results, there are two observers partaking this test. One inside the test chamber, and the other watching the monitors in a separate room. Doctor K████ volunteered to be in the room with the subject, to see if outside stimulus could affect the experiment.
Subject needed no prompt to examine the anomaly, as they already were ecstatic at seeing the rug. Subject thought it was "sweet" that they made a rug labeling each of the murders and crimes the subject has made in their life. Subject went on to describe how there are different figures for every murder or assault, in grave detail. Subject then climbed onto SCP-XXXX, and their face turned grim. Unlike the previous tests, subject did not express happiness when in contact with the object, but instead turned their head to the observer, Doctor K████. The subject grabbed Dr. K████ by the hand, then fell into a similar trance as the previous tests, before both the subject and Doctor K████ collapsed limp simultaniously on SCP-XXXX. Both remained still for twenty six minutes and nineteen seconds. At this point the second observer noted that they could hear Doctor K████, calling for help, despite no noise being heard, nor any changes in visual feed. Armed personnel entered the room, instructed not to touch SCP-XXXX, or the test subjects directly. Successfully separating the two from SCP-XXXX, it is clear that Doctor K████ is bleeding profusely from numerous lacerations across his face and body, and subject D-0699 is laughing hysterically. His last words before being escorted out of the test chamber by guards was "I haven't even gotten to the good part yet, just you wait good doctor."
Result: D-0699 is scheduled for termination, Doctor K████ has been sent to the infirmary. While this test may seem inconclusive, SCP-XXXX has more potential than we realized. One hypothesis claims SCP-XXXX does not randomly select which memories are experienced, but rather brings to life memories that leave the largest impression to the individual on it. Further testing is required to confirm or deny this claim.
*LEVEL 3 CLEARANCE IS REQUIRED TO VIEW INTERVIEW LOG SCP-XXXX.3A*
Interviewed: [Doctor K████]
Interviewer: [Doctor G███
Foreword: Following the incident during the last test with D class personnel and SCP-XXXX, Dr K████ is to be interviewed by Dr G███ for more information on the experiment, and the mental health of Dr K████.
<Begin Log>Dr.G███: Let's get straight to the point Doctor K████, I don't want to take up any more of your time than I have to. What exactly happened during the incident with SCP-XXXX? you are the only SCP personnel to traverse into SCP-XXXX, where did it take you?
Dr.K████: … It didn't really bring me anywhere.. it was more like just a bridge. A bridge into the human psyche, the memory banks inside your head. Although something went wrong, even though I could feel the pull of SCP-XXXX by just looking near it, that D class.. something is wrong with him. He broke free of the anomalous sedation, and dragged me into SCP-XXXX, into him. I was trapped inside his head, inside his memories. I was there for…Dr.G███: Your log only shows you were.. 'sedated' as you call it, for twenty six minutes and nineteen seconds. What did you do while you were in the subjects mind?
Dr.K████: I was in there for hours. It was like we were on SCP-XXXX, the world was the damn rug, and we visited every single one of that sick fucks torture spots. I would have died if I wasn't pulled out.Dr.G███: None of this makes sense Doctor. Did you see what SCP-XXXX looked like before you made the plunge, and why couldn't you leave but the other D-class personnel can whenever they want or if they recieve pain? I'm trying to understand Doctor, but you aren't making this easy.
Dr.K████: I'm barely piecing it together myself, but if anything good has happened from this shit show, I think I figured it out. Once you are influenced by SCP-XXXX, your most influential memories become your reality. The memories you hold dear to your heart, or memories you cherish forever. Being that I was forced into SCP-XXXX while it was already active, I was trapped inside of that sick animals head. And no doc, I didnt get a good look at the damn play rug, but whatever i saw it sure as hell wasnt what he saw before i got sucked in.
Dr.G███; Please keep this professional Doctor K████, I know you are hurt and healing, but we are still at work. In any case, one of the observers claimed they heard you despite you being trapped inside of SCP-XXXXs reality. Care to explain?
Dr.K████: Yeah sure. When I was still on the project a couple of us figured out that video doesnt nullify the effect that SCP-XXXX has on you, it just scrambles it. If I was in there for as long as you say, then what we previously thought were audiovisual hallucinations are actually the dreams SCP-XXXX is broadcasting, bleeding out into the affected observers. Looks like my hypothesis was correct.
Dr.G███: Thank you Doctor, you have been very helpful. Would you likd some coffee?
<End Log>
Closing Notes: All further tests with SCP-XXXX have been suspended until further notice, anybody who wishes to perform tests or interact with SCP-XXXX must get the approval and be escorted by at least two level two clearance or higher, and perform a psych evaluation before and after interaction. Any hallucinations must be reported immediately.
