Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Instances of SCP-XXXX are to be held in separate hermetically sealed Plexiglas cells at Biological Containment Site XX. Each cell is to be divided into two equal partitions by an externally controlled door, and each partition must be accessible by an additional external door for experimentation purposes. All doors used for the containment of SCP-XXXX must form a watertight seal when closed. Neither external door is to be opened without first confirming via procedure XXXX-S that the contained specimen is sealed in the opposite partition.

  • Procedure XXXX-S [Outdated- see below]: Once per week, one D-class personnel is to be seated in front of each occupied containment cell and instructed to observe the interior for ten minutes. Following the observation period, each D-class is to be administered a Class-A amnestic and questioned about the position of the specimen within the cell. If the D-class recalls the cell being empty, a doubled dose of amnestic is to be administered, and the questioning repeated. If the cell is still remembered as empty, the contained specimen is considered to have breached containment.
  • Revised surveillance protocol: In light of the results from experiment XXXX-E-Z, a more conventional surveillance system has been approved for monitoring the general locations of SCP-XXXX specimens. See experiment log for details.

Description: SCP-XXXX are partially amorphous lifeforms ranging between approximately 0.3 and 0.5 meters in height and weighing between 20 and 40 grams. Biological details of SCP-XXXX beyond basic measurements are unknown due to their anomalous properties. The precise physical appearances of contained SCP-XXXX specimens are unknown, but can be approximated through a combination of artistic depictions and verbal accounts gathered from victims (see documents ████-███ and XXXX-2-I). All evidence agrees on the following general points:

  • Specimens are brightly coloured.
  • Specimens possess no fewer than 19 limbs (though some depictions indicate up to ███).
  • Specimens exhibit an extremely intricate, fractal morphology.

While in no way invisible or intangible, instances of SCP-XXXX completely inhibit any and all formation of short-term memories concerning their presence and direct influence on the environment. This effect is so potent that even individuals in direct physical contact with a specimen are unable to formulate any reaction to its existence, and will at most experience a sense of nonspecific anxiety. The amnesic effect applies to both biological and artificial forms of memory (see experiment log XXXX-E-Y).

Memories of SCP-XXXX suppressed by the aforementioned effect will gradually reform over time, with initial recollection of the entity's presence usually occurring between 4 and 16 months after initial exposure in mentally healthy subjects. Subjects questioned at this stage have only been able to describe the entities in vague or dreamlike terms, or simply as inexplicable "presences" appearing in familiar memories. However, recollection of the entities' appearances and behaviours becomes increasingly vivid over the course of decades post-exposure. The regeneration of SCP-XXXX-related memories appears to be accelerated by any mental conditions or impairments known to cause generalized memory loss, such as dementia or chemically-induced amnesia.

All specimens of SCP-XXXX in foundation custody were initially recovered while bound to a human host, referred to hereafter as SCP-XXXX-H. The criteria by which an instance of SCP-XXXX selects a host is currently unknown, but once a host is chosen the entity will follow them at all times, keeping within a radius of approximately 3 meters when possible, and preferring to remain within the host's line of sight.

SCP-XXXX appear not to require any form of physical sustenance, and produce no excrement.
