Item#: SCP-5870
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5870 should not be tampered with and is to be left in a secure room where only trusted personnel are able to enter. When used in testing it is recommended to only have 1 personnel in the room but should be monitored and recorded by High Definition CCTV with at least 2 cameras all in different positions and angles.
Description: SCP-5870 is a regular 50 x 50 x 50cm Cardboard box with yellow and black strips going across, the box is slightly opened and inside the box is the exact same box, similar to a Russian mitrowski doll, except 46 x 46 x 46cm, inside this box is yet another identical copy but this time 42.32 x 42.32 x 42.32. Whilst not fully conclusive, it’s believed the size of the box decreases by 8% each time however we have only measured the first 3 boxes. Reports show that the box fixates the brain to only think about opening more of the boxes, eventually you will have to lean in to open more of them; Upon falling inside the box, something happens, from where we are, the person disappears but we do not know where the person has been transported to. Further tests are needed on this subject.
The first written description of this was in 2004, on July 6th, 02:20AM, (the following is a transcript of what was heard through CCTV surveillance)Person 1 (unable to find a name, on the phone) : “so I clear all of Row 3 yes?”
The figure is seen walking through a warehouse, the footage is extremely low quality (100x75i in 4:3) and compressed (~25kbps), because of this, no-one can be identified.
11 Minutes later, what we think is Person 1 picks up a regular box, as they have been doing for the past 10 minutes, and places it on the ground; The figure bends over and opens the box. The video is so compressed it is impossible to see what happens.
Three days later a missing persons report is written, Matthew Perk; Matthew lived 1 and half miles away from the facility and while still not confirmed it is likely this is the man in the video.
Latest Test: 23rd March 2014 – changes, set to Safe class, Measurements of box
