Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 is to be held in a standard humanoid containment cell, and to be provided with requested materials following approval from Researcher Reed Rescot (See Addendum XXXX-01). SCP-XXXX-1 is to be allowed limited access to Site-19, where it is held (See Addendum XXXX-02).

SCP-XXXX-1 is to be provided with physical supplies useful to and relating to the play of tabletop role-playing games, especially Dungeons and Dragons, editions 3.5 through 5, upon request and is to be monitored while in possession of said materials. SCP-XXXX-1 is to produce content exclusively on sheets of white A1 size printer paper. Upon completion, these are to be taken directly to Researcher Reed Rescot for review. Additionally, if at any time SCP-XXXX-1 is participating in tabletop role-playing games of any style, setting, or genre, it is to be performed through an online medium and supervised by at least one staff member of clearance level 1 or greater. (See Addendum XXXX-02)

SCP-XXXX-2 instances will be stored and filed in a standard secure locker1, and requests for use in testing will be directed to Researcher Reed Rescot. Digital versions of SCP-XXXX-2 instances are to be released to Foundation staff in a digital format, upon review from Researcher Reed Rescot.

Description: SCP-XXXX-1 is a human male, age 24, formerly known as ████ ████. It stands at 175.3 centimeters and weighs 64.9 kg. It expresses an interest in video games, fantasy fiction, and role-playing games, especially tabletop games. However, when SCP-XXXX-1 comes in contact and interacts with printed materials for tabletop role-playing games, especially guidebooks and rulebooks, it is typically “inspired” within 48 hours to create supplemental content for the tabletop role-playing game it has interacted with. It will be continually inspired every 4-12 days until exposure ceases for at least 18 hours. Completed content has been classified as SCP-XXXX-2.

SCP-XXXX-2 is the designation given to original paper copies of supplemental content created by SCP-XXXX-1. Instances are only created when written by SCP-XXXX-1 on paper, regardless of method. Testing has revealed that any form of mechanical or digital type does not result in instances. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 typically follow a structure similar to supplemental content found online. Instances can generally be classified as one of the following:

  • Magic Item: Typically some sort of item or weapon that performs a specialized task or has a specific purpose, generally paranormal in nature.
  • Spell: A process of some sort that allows the performers to accomplish some task normally outside the abilities of a non-anomalous human being. Can consist of hand gestures, specific sounds or phrases, and/or the provision of specific materials, common or rare, sometimes of a specific value in gold.
  • Attribute: Typically some sort of attribute or ability that can be attained through rigorous mental and/or physical training. Possibly specific or exclusive to certain professions.
  • Creature: A creature that is meant to appear in a setting befitting of the source material. Typically supernatural.
  • Race: A specification regarding the origins and nature of an sapient species, occasionally supernatural.
  • Class: A description of a skilled profession, often related to combat and magic. Usually fulfills a niche not yet filled by the provided materials.
  • Campaign: An adventure outlined for the enjoyment of others, usually set in a fantasy setting befitting of the source material.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are not physically anomalous themselves, but upon using it in play, players will begin to experience changes to their mental state and capacity, physiology, physical capabilities, and/or the gain of supernatural abilities, all of which SCP-XXXX-1 is not subject to. These changes typically begin after 22-53 hours of play after introducing the instance to the game. These alterations have been found to be directly related to the concepts described in the instance and how they are used in gameplay. For example, if one player's character uses a spell that causes another player character's body to rot, the corresponding player will experience necrosis of the limbs. The level of damage and severity also corresponds to the health property of the in game character, acting as a percentage. Additional testing showed that SCP-XXXX-1 showed no ability to control the effects of instances of SCP-XXXX-2. Usage of more than one instance at a time has been shown to consistently result in more severe and life threatening changes, including [DATA EXPUNGED].

Addendum XXXX-01: Requested and Approved Materials

  1. A computer (Approved)
  2. Internet Access (Approved, limited access)
  3. A television with cable access (Approved)
  4. 2 houseplants (Approved, granted basic gardening supplies for recreational upkeep)
  5. A ███████ brand gaming console (Approved, approved games provided at request)

Addendum XXXX-02:
Due to SCP-XXXX’s apparent depression due to containment, it is to be allowed restricted access to Site-19 in order to help it form relationships with others and reduce the psychological effects of long term isolation. Additionally, it has been allowed to form a group with other staff to allow for recreational tabletop gameplay. Containment procedures have been updated to reflect this.

Addendum XXXX-03: Discovery
SCP-XXXX-1 was discovered in █████████, ██ on ███████ ████, 2016, after two civillians presented to the emergency room with severe burns across their bodies. They reported that they were playing Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition when, suddenly, they were covered in burns and felt immense pain. Reportedly, after approximately 9 hours of sleep, they were fully recovered. At this point, the Foundation became involved and determined that the cause of the incident was caused by SCP-XXXX-1. All SCP-XXXX-2 instances were taken into custody and SCP-XXXX-1 was contained. All involved civilians were given Class A amnestics. A cover story of suicide was put in place to conceal the disappearance of SCP-XXXX-1.
