Howard Carter discovering SCP-4000-A-2
Item #: SCP-4000
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Due to SCP-4000’s effects becoming part of generally accepted reality, misinformation campaigns are unnecessary. If an instance of SCP-4000-A is created, agents implanted into achaeological and historical societies are to disguise it as a new discovery. If an instance of SCP-4000-B is created, MTF-Alpha-14 ("Herodotus' Heroes") is to be deployed to contain and disguise it as a hoax.
Description: SCP-4000 is a phenomenon affecting the planet Earth. Seemingly randomly, SCP-4000 will create an instance of SCP-4000-A. This was thought to have begun around the early Middle Ages, as many civilisations from that area seem to have been influenced by technology, cultural traditions and lessons created by SCP-4000. SCP-4000-A is a building, fossil or artefact that adds to SCP-4000-1. SCP-4000-1 is the history created by SCP-4000, which concludes around the fall of the Roman Empire. It includes many civilisations once thought to have existed on Earth, such as the Ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. It is unsure how much of history has been created by SCP-4000, and researchers are currently making efforts to discern truth apart from SCP-4000-1.
Areas known to not have been largely influenced by SCP-4000 are thought to be: Scandinavia, all of Asia south-east of Russia and Iran, Australia, southern parts of Africa, and the far north of North America.
Notable civilisations created by SCP-4000 area as follows:
Most civilisations in the Mediterranean.
Most civilisations in the Americas.
Civilisations in North Africa, including the areas around Somalia.
Civilisations in the Middle East, although it is theorised that some religions that originate from the area are not affected.
SCP-4000-B are instances created by SCP-4000 that contain anomalous effects. These always found in instances of SCP-4000-A. They come in various forms, such as a sentient entity, artefact or even entire buildings. They are created less often than instances of SCP-4000-A, but have created issues throughout SCP-4000's history. It is theorized that many mythological creatures from the Middle Ages originate from instances of SCP-4000-B.
Addendum A: Excerpt from the diary of Howard Carter, ██/██/1922.
…Some of my men decided it would be funny if they wore some of the jewellery found in KV62. Those two have been on my nerves for quite some time…
The two men who stole and wore some of the jewellery have suddenly contracted some form of disease, they have complained of a fever… If this is another joke they will be gone from my group.
DNA analysis of Tutankhamen's corpse have found various strains of malaria, the same that the two from Carter's diary had contracted. This was initially passed off as a coincidence, until Foundation testing had discovered the anomalous effects of the jewellery. They were then listed as SCP-4000-B-2.
Addendum B: Theories on its creation.
Foundation researchers have theorised that SCP-4000 was used to cover-up activity of a certain group of people, as its effects have only been seen on certain parts of Earth, mainly around the Mediterranean and the Americas. Further research is being conducted into discovering the truth behind this.
Addendum C: Interview with SCP-4000-C
SCP-4000-C refers to a man who came forward to Foundation authorities, claiming to have knowledge of SCP-4000. An interview was then conducted, where it was discovered that SCP-4000-C was one of the original creators of SCP-4000.
Interview with SCP-4000-C, on ██/██/20██, by Researcher Taylor
Taylor: You told authorities that you had information on SCP-4000, correct?
SCP-4000-C: Correct. I was one of its creators, of course.
