Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept on a standard grade encrypted USB flash drive, but must be transferred to another device every five weeks. If a USB flash drive cannot be located in time, any encrypted electronic storage device can be used. The file cannot be transferred to a device that has previously stored it, but can be stored in an identical unit. All devices that have housed SCP-XXXX are to be overwritten. Only two instances of SCP-XXXX are permitted to exist at any time. If an instance of SCP-XXXX destroys itself, permission to create another will be granted by authorized personnel. Any device that contains an instance of SCP-XXXX is to be stored within combination vaults at Sites ██, ██, and ██. The access codes are to be changed every month, and the codes only accessible to previously authorized personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an 800x800 pixel PNG raster-graphics file that is entirely transparent. When displayed on a computer screen, or printed on a sheet of paper, a hole will manifest where the image is being displayed. The hole will be the width and height of the image, with a depth of 4.8 meters. Holes created by SCP-XXXX are permanent, but can be fixed with the addition of new materials. It is unclear whether matter displaced by SCP-XXXX is teleported to another location or simply erased from existence. The origin of this file is unknown, but it was discovered as a downloadable file at URL [DATA EXPUNGED]. A hole will immediately be created if the file is opened to full size, however even more compressed versions of the file will create holes if given enough time. The file is able to be copied, and the anomalous properties will be present in the new copy as well.
Addendums:
Addendum-XXXX-1: On 4/23/11, Researcher Gomez determined that there was nothing anomalous within the file's code. Research to determine why the file is anomalous is currently ongoing.
Addendum-XXXX-2: On 3/12/13, Researcher Johnston was performing a checkup on the copy of SCP-XXXX at Site ██ and discovered that there were small holes in the USB flash drive that stored it. Tests have begun to determine whether or not SCP-XXXX was responsible for the holes, and whether the incident can be replicated.
Addendum-XXXX-3: As of 6/16/13, it has been determined that SCP-XXXX will begin to manifest holes in the device it is currently stored in, destroying the device in the process, after approximately seven weeks. Due to this new information, the Special Containment Procedures have been updated, and SCP-XXXX has been reclassified from Safe to Euclid.
Addendum-XXXX-4: On 7/2/13, It was concluded that the file will manifest holes even if the seven week period is interrupted, provided it is transferred back to a device it has previously been stored on.
