Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a locked 1’ x 1’ x 1’ flame retardant container at all times, and be guarded by personnel trained in fire prevention measures. SCP-XXXX can only be accessed by Level 4 security and research personnel who follow the Christian faith. No exceptions.

When handling SCP-XXXX, personnel must wear safety equipment rated to Level 5 in fire prevention. At no point can personnel touch SCP-XXXX with anything less than Level 5 fire prevention equipment.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears as an aged, leather bound 12th century Old Testament Holy Bible measuring 12.1” x 7.2” x 5.4”. Embossed on the cover is a depiction of a cross over a book surrounded by flower wreaths. No other markings are present on the outside. The pages appear to be vellum made from human skin, and the text is handwritten in human blood. All text within SCP-XXXX is written in Sanskrit, and seems to be written based on no particular biblical text rendition. Scratched onto the inner front cover are the words “He who shalt commit unholy sin shalt be smited with holy fyre.” in ancient Greek.

SCP-XXXX has a resting temperature of 42.4 degrees celsius, which does not change based on external stimulus.

Experiments have shown that any person who touches SCP-XXXX experiences adverse effects that are relate to heat, though these effects are largely varied. Effects do not occur in animals.

Effects on contact with SCP-XXXX include, but are not limited to:

  • Feeling no effect whatsoever (devoid of even the feeling of SCP-XXXX’s resting heat emission).
  • Feeling mild warmth at point of contact (similar to no effect).
  • Feeling uncomfortable heat at point of contact.
  • Feeling painful heat at point of contact.
  • Feeling unbearable heat at point of contact.

The cause of the sensation and the stimulus for which it provides effects is not yet known.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was found in Jerusalem in the home of a Jewish priest after Operation: ████. The priest was previously on Watchlist █ and was detained by SCP security personnel when he was found near Site ██. The priest is currently being held for further questioning. The man claims he found SCP-XXXX in the burnt remnants of a chapel in ████, Greece.

Addendum XXXX-1: Professional translation reports from Dr. ████ have shown many grammar and spelling mistakes throughout the text, making further translation difficult.

Addendum XXXX-2: Additional effects have been discovered to happen from contact with SCP-XXXX. Effects continue to only affect living humans, and have no affect whatsoever on animals, objects, or cadavers. Additional testing with SCP-XXXX must now be completed in a flame retardant research facility with at least two (2) fire prevention units present and at least one (1) Level 4 personnel member present.

Additional effects on contact with SCP-XXXX include, but are not limited to:

  • Spontaneous combustion at point of contact.
  • Spontaneous combustion of entire body on contact.
  • Spontaneous combustion of the inner organs on contact.
  • Becoming wreathed in a column of fire on contact.
  • Instantaneous vaporization on contact.

Addendum XXXX-3: Further research conducted by Dr. ███ in association with Reverend █████ has proven that effect intensity stems from a combination on past and current faith/religious beliefs, and amount of wrongdoing committed as according to biblical text. SCP-XXXX seems to instantly determine current and past faiths and wrongdoings on contact, and debates have arisen regarding SCP-XXXX’s possible sentience.

Subject XXXX-E: Human, female, Christian, past Atheist, extensive criminal background including armed robbery and assault, spontaneous combustion at point of contact.
Subject XXXX-F: Human, female, Atheist, extensive criminal background including murder, spontaneous combustion of internal organs on contact.
Subject XXXX-G: Human, male, Satanist, past Christian, extensive criminal background including assault, murder, and rape, instantaneous vaporization on contact.
Subject XXXX-H: Human, male, Christian, no criminal background, head priest of church, painful heat.

Addendum XXXX-4: After the incident occurring on ██-██-██, Dr. ███ has discovered that effects from SCP-XXXX occur when subject reads directly from the pages of SCP-XXXX, even if subject is not touching SCP-XXXX. Translation of SCP-XXXX must now only be completed by researchers who follow the Christian Faith and have completed a Level 10 background and polygraph check.

Addendum XXXX-5: As proven by Dr. ███, wearing of fire resistant material does not impede the start or spread of physical fire from SCP-XXXX, but does impede any feelings of heat. There is no difference in result if a subject wears fire protective equipment and is affected by one of SCP-XXXX’s physical fire effects.

Addendum XXXX-6: Contact of SCP-5516 with any species of snake results in instantaneous vaporization.
