SCP-XXXX-2, photographed during descent

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Due to SCP-XXXX's immovable nature, it is to remain at its site of discovery. Containment teams have established a 4 km perimeter around SCP-XXXX, and civilian traffic is to be rerouted under the guise of a cover story alleging military operations in the area.

Only D-class may enter SCP-XXXX-Prime with 4/XXXX permissions. Due to the one-way nature of SCP-XXXX, all D-class slated for exploration must be administered 500 nanograms of Compound X26-Ω, a slow-acting neurotoxin that causes instantaneous cardiac arrest after an incubation period of five hours prior to deployment. This allows for remote termination of D-class stranded in SCP-XXXX-Prime.

Overwatch Command is currently conducting an investigation to determine the credibility of the information presented in SCP-XXXX-A. Additionally, the Foundation is currently attempting inter-temporal communication with SCP-XXXX-Prime to gain more information regarding potential anomalous influences on consensus reality. However, current temporal models, namely the Ogundimu-Zhang hypothesis of determinative sets, estimate an extremely high number of possible timelines (> 10100.) Therefore, chances of success are slim. Refer to Document XXXX-1 for further information on the Ogundimu-Zhang hypothesis.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an area of space located in Toole County, Utah, United States. The anomaly is roughly cylindrical in shape and appears as a distinct visual distortion of the surrounding area, taking on a prominent crystalline appearance. SCP-XXXX is approximately 500 meters in height and 2 meters in width at its base, tapering towards its top.

DISCLAIMER: The following description may no longer be accurate following communication attempts with SCP-XXXX-Prime. However, it is archived here until further notice.

Addendum XXXX-1: Major Observed Temporal Deviations

DISCLAIMER: The following table has been redacted for brevity.

Event Prime Timeline Timeline 18.Ephraim-4935A
Qin's Wars of Unification 230 BCE - 221 BCE. King Ying Zheng of the Qin state conquers the neighboring Han, Zhao, Yan, Wei, Chu, and Qi states and creates a unified China, declaring himself Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. 245 - 241 BC. After unifying China, Emperor Qin proceeds to conquer a large portion of East Asia. China becomes a major unifying force in East Asia akin to the Roman Empire for the next nine centuries.
Pax Romana 27 BCE - 180 CE. The Roman Empire experiences a long period of relative peace and stability, achieving its greatest territorial area. 4 BCE - 305 CE. Otherwise identical to prime version. The maximum size of the Roman Empire is observed to be greater than that of the prime version.
First Crusade 1095 CE - 1099 CE. Pope Urban II successfully reclaims Jerusalem from the Fatimad Caliphate. Victory results in massive public support for Urban and incites continued religious conflicts in the area until the late 13th century. 1095 CE - 1098 CE. Pope Urban II fails to capture Jerusalem. Status quo ante bellum.
Fall of the Inca Empire 1532 CE - 1572 CE. The arrival of Spanish conquistadors in South America has a catastrophic effect on the Inca population, resulting in a population decline ratio of 58:1 between 1520 - 1571. Eventually results in the fall of the Inca empire in 1572. Does not occur. While the Inca population does suffer severe losses due to the spread of Old World diseases, Spanish conquistadors do not engage in hostilities and develop a mutually beneficial relationship with natives. Inca Empire persists for two more centuries.
Existence of the Congo Free State 1885 CE - 1908 CE. Belgian King Leopold II claims most of the Congo basin at the Berlin Conference. Natives suffer from disease, famine, and violence at the hands of Leopold's regime. Does not occur.
Cambodian Civil War 1968 CE - 1975 CE. The Communist Party of Kampuchea successfully overthrows the incumbent Khmer Republic, establishing the state of Democratic Kampuchea. Cambodian Genocide begins immediately after the Kampuchea victory. Total population loss amounts to 1.671 - 1.871 million over the next four years. 1968 CE - 1971 CE. The Communist Party of Kampuchea loses the war. Cambodian Genocide does not occur.
Rwandan Genocide 1994 CE. A mass slaughter of the Tutsi ethnic group in Rwanda. Part of the Rwandan Civil War. Does not occur.
Project BLACK CREVASSE 2010 CE - 2011 CE. Operation fails. For more information, see Document XXXX.1: BLACK CREVASSE Project Brief. 2010 CE - 2011 CE. Operation succeeds.

Preliminary explorations have been completed. I can safely say that there is no sign of life in XXXX-Prime. Looks like we're dealing with another "crapsack" world, if you mind the informal language. Nothing particularly unique.

Your observations have been noted. I think we can agree that SCP-XXXX should be designated a low-priority assignment for the time being. We have more important issues on our hands.

My team and I have been conducting further explorations into XXXX-Prime recently. I'm well aware that you have designated it as low-priority, but I still think you're going to find this interesting.

From what we can determine, the basic laws of science still apply inside there. Hume levels are, surprisingly, approximately normal. This means that we can rule out Prime being a parallel/pocket dimension. This is a full-on alternate timeline we're dealing with here, Level I on the Tegmark scale. Given the condition of Prime, this obviously raises a couple of questions. For one, how did it become the way it is?

I formally request the allocation of more resources to XXXX-related research, including an increase of D-class allocated for exploration up to 10 per month.

We've figured out what the facility on the other side of XXXX-1 is. It's a Foundation site.

Specifically, Site-82. For whatever reason, it exists over there. This opens up a whole new realm of intel we can glean from Prime. If they've built Site-82, then that means BLACK CREVASSE has probably been given the green-light as well. God knows what happened after that.

I don't know how much you know, but I was never really briefed on BLACK CREVASSE back when it was a thing. This was in spite of the fact that the hypothesis the O5 Council decided to repurpose for their uses is partly named after me. I just would have appreciated it if they let me in a little more, you know?

I digress. We need to investigate this further.

Believe me, there was really nothing to know about. BLACK CREVASSE was nothing more than a set of ideas, only in the realm of the hypothetical. Looking back, it looks pretty clear to me that it was never meant to be. At least, in this world.

That is interesting, though. Maybe we could learn more about what could have been.

Formally requesting further allocation of D-class to exploration of XXXX. We need to map out more of Site-82 and gain as much information as we can regarding their Foundation.

From: Overwatch Command

Request denied. Dr. Zhang, your management of resources regarding XXXX has become rather excessive. You have expended twenty D-class for exploration purposes in the past month. This is not sustainable. While we think exploration of XXXX is an important responsibility, your utmost priorities lie elsewhere. -[VERIFIED OVERSEER ACCOUNT]

We've found information regarding BLACK CREVASSE in Site-82 from archived server data. My suspicions have been confirmed; it seems like they've moved forward with it over there. The most recent legible document we could find details the cessation of preliminary testing. But after that, it just stops.

That's not the whole story, though.

We've found other documents on another Foundation project called LIGHT EMPATH. They're highly corrupted, but from what we can gather, it seems that LIGHT EMPATH was put into operation as soon as BLACK CREVASSE ended. The documents are heavily corrupted, but what we can decipher is… intriguing. The temporal models that it presents are incredibly complex, far beyond anything we have developed. From our point of view, it seems like madness. But from theirs… maybe it's something else entirely.

Things don't quite make sense.

In all other documents we've recovered so far, there's nothing that could offer an explanation as to what happened. No Keter-class containment breaches, no distress signals, nothing. It's like Site-82 is frozen in time. Something about this doesn't feel right.

Also, we've used up our monthly supply of D-class. Judging by the Council's previous response, I presume they aren't keen to the idea of allocating more to my team. All we can do right now is think on things.

Last night, I had a nightmare.

It was kind that you don't remember. The kind in which all the fear, so clear and present just heartbeats ago, vanishes as soon as you open your eyes. Whatever it was, it got me thinking. And the first thing that I thought of, as I lied there in the middle of my bed, covered in sweat, was the same thing I've been thinking of as always.

XXXX-Prime is a dead world. Never in any of our explorations have we seen anything even resembling any form of life. Yet all the information is still there. Books. Maps. Even the damn Internet still works in there. And never have we ever came across a single piece of information that gave any background to how it became this way. No K-class scenarios, no Keter containment breaches, nothing.

Something doesn't quite add up.

I lied in bed, ruminating on this for hours. Then I realized something.

XXXX-1 is a window to another world. Another timeline, a completely different history. I think we've been peering through the looking glass so much that we've gotten tunnel vision. From XXXX-1, Prime looks dead, matter itself bathed in crimson like a world on fire. That is how it appears to us, from our side. And the window is one-way, just as a telescope does not work when viewed from the opposite end.

What if we've been looking through from the wrong side?

We aren't looking at them.

They're looking at us.

Document XXXX-1: The Ogundimu-Zhang Hypothesis

The Ogundimu-Zhang hypothesis of determinative sets hypothesizes that the creation of parallel timelines is facilitated by substantially different permutations of all forms of matter and energy in the mainline reality.

A similar comparison is to Newtonian physics, specifically Newton's third law, which mandates that the exertion of force by one object onto another is met by an equal and opposite force. As minute alterations of matter and energy occur, exerting a force on spacetime fabric due to the alteration of consensus reality itself, they generate an equal and opposite force in the opposite direction across the spacetime fabric, creating a determinative set.

The Ogundimu-Zhang hypothesis does not consider insignificant alterations in matter and energy, and therefore the spacetime fabric, as facilitating the creation of new determinative sets. Rather, only factors that exert a significant change in the spacetime fabric, and in consensus reality, are considered to generate determinative sets. This means that the parallel timelines created through this process possess a substantially different outcome than that of the main timeline.

Document XXXX-2: BLACK CREVASSE Project Brief

TOP SECRET

Project Codename: BLACK CREVASSE

Project #: KT-41117632

Project Aim: To create a convenient means of travel to and from determinative sets outside of normal temporal progression as understood by conventional science.

Project Leads: O5-1, O5-13

Attached Notice from O5-1: The Overseer Council has deemed it necessary to formulate a secondary contingency plan for potential world-ending threats when the use of SCP-2000 is impossible. In light of the recent hypothesis proposed by Dr. Adebiyi Ogundimu and Dr. Liu Zhang, a viable proposal has been created.

Over the course of the past twenty years, the number of Red- and Black-level threats has increased by an estimate of █ - ██%. This, coupled with, the overall increase of anomalies discovered by the Foundation, has created a significant threat to consensus reality.

We must not rely on lesser failsafes to ensure the continuity of consensus reality. Instead, we must take a proactive hand in changing it. If achieved, Project BLACK CREVASSE will provide us with a true reset button. While SCP-2000 sows the seeds of a new beginning on a scorched earth, BLACK CREVASSE will ensure that such an earth will never exist in the first place.

The majority of work on BLACK CREVASSE will take place in the future Site-82 after it has finished construction. Monitor your local communication channels for further information.
