SCP-XXXX-1 prior to containment.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX are to be kept within a ███████ brand intermodal container typically used in intermodal freight transport, painted red, with dimensions of 6m x 2.6m x 2.4m, and stored within a 10m x 10m x 10m standard containment cell within Site-██. The container is to be made out of corrugated weathering steel, and is not to be treated for rust. Any breach made in the corrugated steel must be reported immediately by personnel and the container must be switched out. SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 are never to leave this container, except when the container is being transferred, and three (3) on-site guards must be present in the area in which SCP-XXXX instances are during this maintenance. SCP-XXXX-2 must be fed once a week, with a diet consisting of 232.5g of raw mourning dove flesh and bones. The materials are to be placed within SCP-XXXX-2's housing container, and is to be monitored until consumption via surveillance cameras.

Description: SCP-XXXX consists of two instances (SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2). Each instance takes the form of a corrugated fiberboard box with the shipping date █/██/3256, and target destination of “9512 Northsouth Boulevard, West New Australia”. SCP-XXXX-1 measures 1m x 1m x 0.2m, and who’s contents include one unbranded fountain pen, two skulls belonging to Zenaida macroura, four 10cm carpentry nails, a pair of broken aviator sunglasses, and one torn piece of paper with the words “With Love” written onto it.

SCP-XXXX-2 measures 0.5m x 0.5m x 0.5m, and when opened, produces 12cm long, needle-like teeth around the rim of the inside of the container. Placing any object inside the container will cause the box to close and reopen roughly 2-11seconds later. Noises resembling a waterfall can be heard while SCP-XXXX-2 is “digesting”, although the sounds are much deeper and are paired with a sound akin to TV static. All matter placed within SCP-XXXX-2 is seemingly annihilated, and any connection with audio or video equipment placed within SCP-XXXX-2 is immediately terminated. SCP-XXXX-2 has a cycle of “states” that it transitions through in known intervals.

SCP-XXXX-2’s states, in order of chronology, are as follows:

  1. SCP-XXXX-2 rests. No properties exhibited by SCP-XXXX-2 in any other stage are observed in this time frame. Typically lasts between four to five days.
  2. SCP-XXXX-2 begins to convulse and twitch, mimicking that of a muscle. Infrared scans show a small amount of heat radiating from SCP-XXXX-2. Always lasts 21 hours.
  3. Described as the “observation stage” due to the properties exhibited in this stage. SCP-XXXX-2 emits larger amounts of heat during this time, and continues to convulse, as well as taking in surrounding air through the overlapping flaps covering the interior of the box. SCP-XXXX-2 is suspected to be analyzing its surroundings for sources of food or passages of escape during this time. Typically lasts seven to twelve hours.
  4. The “hunting” stage. SCP-XXXX-2’s heat plateaus at 39°C, and continues to take in air. SCP-XXXX-2 produces four appendages through the solidification of an acidic black sludge of unknown composure emitted from the surface of its faces. The appendages include: two 8cm long pedipalps placed above the “mouth” of SCP-XXXX-2, and two large avian legs measuring 40cm long terminating in zygodactylous feet matching no records of existing birds. The pedipalps of SCP-XXXX-2 contain an anticoagulant, which it injects into its prey as it feeds to ensure death. SCP-XXXX-2 also exudes an anomalous field that disables the human fight or flight response through the death of all norepinephrine receptors in the sympathetic nervous system, allowing for easier capture of prey and a lower chance of being harmed while feeding. The range of said field seems to be around five meters and takes effect immediately. During this stage, SCP-XXXX-2 will attempt to break containment and flee from the facility, harming staff and guards on its attempt at escape. After 24 hours, SCP-XXXX-2 will return to its place of rest (usually next to SCP-XXXX-1), and begin stage 1 again.

Addendum XXXX-A: Due to the previously unknown need to feed SCP-XXXX-2, an alarm was sounded within Site-██ due to the deaths of ten guards. SCP-XXXX-2 was locked in a researcher bathroom until the hunting phase ended, and was shot multiple times, although all holes were found healed by the time SCP-XXXX-2 was retrieved. Special containment procedures have been updated accordingly.
