Distorted photo of SCP-XXXX
Item #: XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept inside of a 30 x 30 x 30 ft. (9.144 meters) containment chamber coated in 6 inches (15.24 centimeters) of lead, at Site-81. Inside, there should be 19841.6 pounds (9 metric tons) of dirt covering the whole ground. Guards should be stationed outside of the containment chamber, due to its memetic effects. The entrance to SCP-XXXX’s chamber must be guarded by double doors made of lead. Entering the chamber, researchers and security personnel must either cover SCP-XXXX, or block their sight entirely. Due to lack of cameras, audio logs will be kept from inside of the chamber. Researchers must keep audio logs of their experiments.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 7 foot (2.1336 meter) tall “One Way” street sign with several small rusted areas on it’s back. It sometimes appears with other signs on it with seemingly no pattern. It is made of aluminum, with a retroreflective plastic coating on the outside to make it more visible during night time travel. Testing shows that none of the materials are anomalous in nature; however, multiple attempts to damage SCP-XXXX have resulted in no effect on SCP-XXXX whatsoever. shown that lead and bronze are able to dent it, most likely because of their density
SCP-XXXX has the ability to teleport anywhere within 10 miles of itself, and seems to prefer places with cliffs, mountains, and other hazardous terrain, whether man-made or not. It seems that it is not able to travel through denser metals, such as lead and bronze. SCP-XXXX possesses visual memetic properties which cause it’s victims to gain the irresistible desire go to it, then travel in the direction of which the sign is pointing. This effect takes hold when the sign is first seen, starts off small, then increases in intensity over around 2 minutes. It goes through any transparent object, even through photos, where somehow, the victim will know the exact location where the photo was taken. The effect is; however, is able to be blocked if the image itself is distorted, or if it is seen through distorted glass.
SCP-XXXX was discovered in ██-██-08, when it suddenly appeared in the middle of ██████ ████████ Wisconsin, U.S.A., a highly populated city. It appeared in the middle of the sidewalk, prompting over 50 deaths and 42 injuries of the people in shops and walking outside, causing them to all walk into the middle of the busy street, inducing a 10 car crash. Following the deaths of those 50 people, SCP-XXXX appeared next to ~4 of the victims and████████, causing the victims to convulse, then slightly foam at the mouth. After this event, a foundation field scout notified the SCP Foundation, and MTF Eta-10 (See No Evil) was dispatched to contain SCP-XXXX. A Class-B amnestic was administered to all bystanders and injured.
Numerous tests show that:
- SCP-XXXX is sentient, but unable to communicate with others.
- SCP-XXXX seems to stake out around hazardous areas until a larger natural lifeform passes, then lures them onto hazardous terrain to feed on them post-mortem.
- Victims of SCP-XXXX gain inhuman strength, seemingly for the purpose of getting to SCP-XXXX without interruption.
Experiment Log 1: 37826-55-A: 04-13-10
Subject: D-45669
Procedure: Subject D-45669 was restrained to the wall using steel cord with SCP-5XXX in full view.
Log:
Subject D-45669 was restrained to the wall using steel cord with SCP-5XXX in full view.
D-45669: “Hey, what did y’all want me to do in here?”
Researcher F. ███████: “All we want you to do, is to remain where you are standing for the time being. If you comply, we may be able to decrease your time in this facility.”
D-45669: “You can get me outta here?”
Researcher F. ███████: “Like I said, we may be able to shorten your time.”
D-45669 looks away from the researchers, and makes eye contact with SCP-5XXX
D-45669: “Hey, can I go over there?”
Researcher F. ███████: “We already told you to stay where you are.”
D-45669: “But…”
A few seconds pass, and D-45669 begins to move around uncomfortably.
D-45669: “I have to go over there! Please? Please? Please? please? please? please? please? pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease…”
D-45669 repeats themself for 2 minutes straight.
D-45669 begins moving around more sporadically, staring at SCP-XXXX intensively.
D-45669: “Just let me out pleASE I NEED TO GO OVER THERE PLEASE LET ME OUTLETMEOUTLETMEOUTLETMEOUTLETMEOUT”
D-45669 begins to pull at the cord, at first bruising, then tearing tissue around their wrists, ankles, and torso.
D-45669 breaks free of the cords after tearing the skin off their hands and feet, rips apart the cord around their torso, and runs at SCP-XXXX
D-45669 is removed from the containment chamber and sent to the infirmary.
Addendum: Due to Incident 537 (see below), it has been decided by 05-7 and 05-4 that SCP-XXXX will not be available for testing for anyone under Level 4 Clearance due to its difficulty to oversee.
