Item #: SCP-XXXX

SR71.jpg

SCP-XXXX during a high altitude test flight.

Object Class: Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept inside Site-██'s main hangar (150 m × 100 m × 23.5 m in size). A 3.5 km high security perimeter has been established around SCP-XXXX's hangar and designated runways. Any civilians trespassing said perimeter will be detained, administered Class A amnestics and turned over to the nearest police office, in the rural town of █████████, Colorado, USA.

Object is to be checked for maintenance on a daily basis by a team of no less than four (4) mechanics, technicians and engineers, totalling no less than twelve (12) personnel in the aircraft's maintenance team (hereafter referred as AMT) as a mandatory requisite for proper maintenance.

At least four (4) MTF-Sigma-9 ("Valkyries") pilots and six (6) co-pilots are to be ready at all times for flight excersices with SCP-XXXX. Fit-for-service elite pilots from the military worldwide may be encouraged to apply for MTF-Sigma-9 under the cover of a worldwide selective job appliance from the Foundation front association "Sindicato de Pilotos Central", based in the city of Denver, Colorado, USA.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a heavily modified Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird aircraft. At the date of writing (██/██/201█), the object's engine compressor supports more than 4500º K of combustible heat, its fuel tank appers to have been replaced with a nuclear fusion tank and two (2) reserve electromagnetic-solar batteries.

The object's fuselage, cockpit window frames, engines, wings, stabilizers, ailerons, spoilers, elevators, slats and rudder have been coated with a set of high quality reinforced carbon-carbon plates, inside of which a 3 mm Silica-graphene alloy gel isolates a complex network of 450 μm tungsten fiber connected to a series of four collapsible antennae in each wing. Said system's purpose is to receive, transmit and block electromagnetic signals, alert the crewmen of the atmospheric conditions outside the aircraft and recharge the reserve batteries if deemed necessary.

Despite being comprehensively inspected by four different AMTs and fifteen Foundation aeronautics, aerospatial and aerodynamics specialised researchers since initial containment, the object appears to "self-upgrade" its air inlets, engines, astro-inertial navigation and sensor systems and on-board computers' hardware (and their OS) under several circumstances:

  • Exactly ten minutes and thirteen seconds (10:13) after departure when the climate is unfavorable and no other aircraft are departing, ongoing cruise flight or descending in a 31.49 km radius.
  • Approximately two (2) minutes after reaching cruise speed.
  • During turbulences more pronounced than seven and half (7.50) meters in altitude change.
  • Upon attaining a speed of approximately 2,718-13,333 km/h (see Test SCP-XXXX-01 for details).
  • Upon atmospheric reentry.

These auto-upgrading events usually last no longer than thirty four (34) seconds, during which all transmissions cease and recover, often with an increased performance in signal receiving capability, fuel economy, aircraft maneuverability and navigation system accuracy and response speed.

Addendum: SCP-XXXX was localized in ██/██/201█, 16:35 (PST) by MTF-Kappa-11 ("Red Barons") personnel, being subsequentially intercepted and brought to its current location by a detachment from MTF-Sigma-9 ("Valkyries") after Foundation undercover agents in the American police received reports from several ranchers all over Utah's countryside, describing what was an "all black UFO-like plane heading southeast pretty fast, like it's in a hurry".

Object was detected by radar and live satellite images at ██/██/201█, 03:22 (PST) reaching the outskirts of ████████, Colorado, twenty five minutes after being first reported. Object's location at the moment of detection was ███████, New Mexico. The object was successfully intercepted by MTF-Sigma-9's aircraft after five hours of chasing, until SCP-XXXX appeared to cede and slow down due to [REDACTED], near ████████, at ██/██/201█, 03:22 (PST). (RE-REDACT THIS)

After being brought down to its current location's runway, MTF-Sigma-9 and later engineering personnel discovered the aircraft was unmanned (the cockpits were found to be covered with a mixture of slush and sulphur dust), with all signal equipment turned off. Later maintenance tests revealed the aircraft had been tampered with before and possessed no noticeable autopilot system.
