With Remorse

SCP-XXXX
Clearance Level: 3 Classified

Object Class: Euclid
Disruption Class: 2/Vlam
Risk Class: 2/Caution

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be stored in a small room, with a living object. Room should be at least 6 feet wide. SCP-XXXX seems to lock on the nearest object within 4 feet and tries to attract it. If nothing is within 4 feet, SCP-XXXX draws the nearest living object towards it, even if beyond the 4 feet radius. Non-aggressive animals seem to keep SCP-XXXX at peace, while predators or higher intelligent beings have strong urges to reach SCP-XXXX

If at any case, there is a need to enter the room with SCP-XXXX, use multiple non-aggressive animals to keep SCP-XXXX at peace.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small lever lock Italian style knife1. Engraved in small print on the base of the handle there are two words, "With Remorse" forming a circle. Dubbing the name of the knife "With Remorse"

The handle is a grayish tint. It has small deformed carvings that do not form while under a neutral state. Once picked up; the handle's carvings form images of past experiences. Usually 4-5 carvings are represented. The most to appear were 8.

The top of the blade curves down at the end, while the edge of the blade stays straight. The blade has a print of sorts running down the middle of it. It seems to only form 4 different patterns.

Example Image of SCP-XXXX

  1. Pattern 1: When it seems to be at peace, the blade's pattern forms small flowers and children's toys. Usually with a slight pink glow where the pattern is. This pattern appears only when around peaceful animals.
  2. Pattern 2: When there is nothing near SCP-XXXX, the blade forms carvings of words in Akkadian2; a dead language from a colony that lived near Babylon. The pattern forms 7 words: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. These randomly interchange down the blade until someone picks it up.
  3. Pattern 3: When there is a intelligent being handling SCP-XXXX, the pattern develops a system, starting from the tip of the blade going to the base. Each human that has held it seems to have a different order. Evidence suggest that it is their greatest sin at the tip, and the least at the base.
  4. Pattern 4: After handling SCP-XXXX, evidence suggests about 5 minutes and 34 seconds on average, the blade turns a deep shade of purple, the markings become maroon colored.

History: SCP-XXXX was retrieved from a crime scene. On 4/13/2009 A clinically insane man had taken his own family hostage in Northern/Central California. Reports say the man was causing a issue inside of the Amador Church, screaming in a "unknown language", Akkadian. Translations from the footage believe the man said, "The executioner does not kill, the judge does not judge, and the jury does not listen. Only when all three are the same, that is when true judgment begins.". The man escaped police custody when he was under arrest outside of the Amador Church. Fleeing, he found himself near his old apartment complex where his family still resided. Taking the family hostage, the police had a 7 hour stand off with the man. Security Footage of the apartment room show that the man had shot his wife once entering the room, whom bleed out during the stand off. His daughter fled the living room into her own room, where she tried to barricade herself in, but to no success. After almost 7 hours the man made his way to the door of the room and broke inside. After about 4 minutes of wrestling with the door, he bashed his way through and entered the room. Once the man entered the room, the man began praying in Akkadian, repeating the phrase "I give judgment, with remorse". While intensely crying, the man he took SCP-XXXX from his pocket and stabbed the daughter with it. Holding the daughter after she was stabbed, he continues repeating "With remorse" and ending it with "I will be there soon, do not leave me." Once the daughter passed, he exited the room, walked out the front door and was taken out by police gunfire. Inside the daughter's room, the lightly glowing hue of maroon, coming from the knife, dimmed, until it was completely gone.

Previous knowledge on the location and history of SCP-XXXX is unknown. It is suggested the knife was crafted around the 1800's. The craftsmanship suggests it was made by a professional blacksmith. The blade and handle have no visible wear or rust even if used aggressively.

Information of SCP-XXXX from the police of the hostage situation has been removed from the report.

Test Notes

Date DATA Effects Notes
04/30/2009

A candidate will hold SCP-XXXX for 1 minute.

The candidate felt a strange urge of loss, followed by the handle and blade forming peculiar images and possibly wording in a unknown language. A day later the candidate reported having a voice echo in his head saying "sorry" and asking where "Vahl" was.
5/21/2009

A candidate will hold SCP-XXXX for 2 minutes.

The candidate felt a strange urge of loss, again. The same carvings form on the blade and handle. The blade seems to form words, whilst the handle forms small images of past personal items of the handler.

Following the previous test, the candidate still heard the voice echoing, but the candidate also reported that he had nightmares for the following 7 days. The nightmare showed him in his old house. In his nightmare he was leaned over his mother's body, crying for the first night.

The following night he realized what was wrong with his mother. The knife was stabbed into her lower abdomen, and she had bled out.

This same nightmare repeated until the 7th day.

The final night, he had no nightmare, but reported that he woke up in his old house, crying in the same corner, but there was no body. The new family that had moved in to the house, had called the police on him.

7/14/2009

A candidate will hold SCP-XXXX for 3 minutes.

Following the previous reports, the candidate also became distant and said he was experiencing past memories, good and bad. The handle followed the previous test, it had small carvings that seem to line up with the memories he experienced. Studies suggest the blade's carvings are words written in Akkadian, a dead language from long ago. We will be translating the words post-test.

Passing the 2 minute mark, the candidate did not report any nightmares. Instead he reported strong desires to commit violence for small inconveniences for the first day.

The next day he did not report back to us. Instead he was found in prison with a assault charge. He had stabbed his wife after a dispute, though she will live through the stab wound. He says that he does not remember what happened, and that he has no memory of the dispute or stabbing his wife. Brain activity and tests suggests he isn't lying, but further tests will find the truth of the situation.

3/7/2010

A candidate will hold SCP-XXXX for 6 minutes.

After the 5 minute mark, the candidate broke down crying. Repeating the phrases "I am here", "Don't leave", and "Where are you".

Shortly after the candidate became unconscious. 20 minutes later he awoke, with no memory of who or where was. He began panicking asking where he was and where his daughter was.

The candidate has no daughter.

After a week of containment the candidate regained all of his memories, but has no recollection of what happened during the experiment.

The candidate seems to always write James Wright at first whenever he needs to fill out his name. This was the name of the man from the hostage incident.
10/24/2010 - Final Test

Candidate will hold SCP-XXXX for ten minutes.

All seemed exactly the same until the handler reached the 7 minute mark. At 7 minutes, he stopped crying. Got up and started to carve symbols into the ground with the knife. The symbols are still under study, we have no knowledge of what they currently mean. Once he finished the symbols, he said again "I give judment, with remorse." then proceeded to stab himself in the chest. He didn't make a noise or speak. He bled out after 28 seconds. The knife, once retrieved from the body, had no blood or DNA on the blade or handle. For 3 days after the incident, the blade glowed a orange hue, which diminished.

Incident regarding to SCP-XXXX

Before we figured out it needed to be near a living subject at all times, we had a incident regarding it's effect to beckon humans into handling it.

Dr. Arthur Menith: What noise? There's nothing happening right now.

Dr. Bryce Komic: I swear I hear the sound of like a child crying, how can you not hear that?

Dr. Bryce Komic begins to pace around, trying to listen to where the noise is coming from.

Dr. Bryce Komic: I think it's coming from that room

Dr. Bryce Komic motions towards SCP-XXXX's cell.

Dr. Arthur Menith: yea, well I don't hear anything, and you're not allowed to go into the cells.

Dr. Bryce Komic: But it sounds like they're in trouble, we should help.

Dr. Arthur Menith: No we should not, because there's nothing happening. I think you need to go sit down.

Dr. Bryce Komic: hmm, fine. I'll go sit down in the back.

Dr. Bryce Komic moves out of camera view into the back rooms.

Dr. Arthur Menith begins to look around the room with a confused look on their face.

Dr. Arthur Menith: Uhhh, I hear the noise now. (Yelling)

Dr. Bryce Komic: What are you talking about? (Yelling)

Dr. Arthur Menith: I hear the crying now, It's coming from the cell. (Yelling)

Dr. Bryce Komic arrives back in the room gazing at Dr. Arthur Menith.

Dr. Bryce Komic: Are you really going to open it?

Dr. Arthur Menith: Yea, I am going to open it.

Dr. Bryce Komic: Alright.

Dr. Arthur Menith opens the cell door, revealing only the knife sitting in the middle. He still approaches it, and lifts up the knife. Alarms go off and a lock-down initiates.

Security guards arrive on the scene, apprehending Dr. Bryce Komic. The cell opens with Dr. Arthur Menith running out wielding the knife. Security took shots at him. Dr. Bryce Komic, trying to stop them, got shot in the crossfire. Both Dr. Bryce Komic and Dr. Arthur Menith were killed on the scene.
