Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Unexplained
Special Containment Procedures: The Special Containment Procedures for SCP-XXXX are currently unknown. All personnel with knowledge of SCP-XXXX's existence are asked to refrain from discussing it outside of foundation grounds.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an unexplained phenomenon in which an astronomical body seemingly disappears from observable space. It was first noted by astronomer Charles Woods in 1963. He charted a binary star within the Milky Way and sent his findings to the newly developed NASA. The scientists were puzzled to find that the star system was not where Woods had indicated. Woods had taken extensive photos of the system which, upon examination from Foundation experts, were determined to have not been doctored.
SCP-XXXX was noted again in 2003 when the Hubble telescope revealed a lenticular galaxy 326 million light-years from earth. Scientists watched in real time as the light from the newly discovered galaxy blinked out.
In November of 2014, astrologists were yet again puzzled when SCP-XXXX presented on a pair of galaxies affecting each other. M3020, like the earlier examples, simply blinked out. The light from the galaxy it was affecting then began pulsing. M2021 pulsed for 3 hours before it too blinked out.
Several theories have emerged to explain the phenomenon, though Foundation have since polished and modified them in accordance with new evidence.
- Dark Galaxy/Gas Cloud Theory: This theory posits that there exists galaxies within our universe absent of light, and one of these dark galaxies simply caught the light from these galaxies. The theory also posits that the reason the star system disappeared was that a patch of gas simply caught the light.
- Mandela Effect: This theory posits that the universe in which Woods took his initial pictures was a different one than our current universe.
