SCP-5730 right after being contained (1993)

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5730 is to be kept in a climate-controlled plexiglass box inside its carrying case and must be on turned once every 2 weeks to keep the video tube and circuit boards in good working condition. If there is no picture inside of SCP-5730's viewfinder it should be considered neutralized unless SCP-5730-1 can be found in another camera's viewfinder when connected to a multi-cam unit. SCP-5730 must have 2 CCTV cameras on it at all times. All site researchers must go through a 1-hour mental test to receive access to SCP-5730. This test is mandatory so no researchers experience long term effects from SCP-5730-1.

Description: SCP-5730 is a vintage Sony HVC 2200 video camera. SCP-5730 was collected from ██████████ University in ██/ ██/93. SCP-5730 was contained after multiple film university students reported seeing a "human-like figure" when using SCP-5730 for their class. This figure is known as SCP-5730-1.

SCP-5730-1 is a white disfigured human standing 1.8 meters tall and is described with having no notable features besides black eyes. SCP-5730-1 is found when SCP-5730 is in operation. The figure can be seen in the video cameras' viewfinder staying in only one location until the camera is turned off or when the camera's field of view can no longer see the figure. If the camera is turned off or moved in operation the figure will appear in another spot in the camera's field of view.

SCP-5730-1 effects the human mind by turning all perceptions of humans into the same distorted human figure stated in the passage above. This happens after 24 hours near SCP-5730. This also affects humans seen in videos and photos. Many students after using SCP-5730 reported seeing the same figure seen in the viewfinder. Some who've used the camera the most reported the "human figure" replacing normal beings such as classmates and family. Usually, the effects from SCP-5730 will be temporary through 1█ students have reported permanent effects after being in contact with SCP-5730 for >80 hours. Please read Addendum 5730-1 for more information on how the permanent effects of SCP-5730 affect human interactions.

While SCP-5730-1 hasn't physically hurt any humans the fore-mentioned mental effects from it have caused ██ students to be enrolled in many forms of mental hospitals. █ have even committed suicide due to the effects. There are only 8█ confirmed cases of SCP-5730-1 and possibly more unconfirmed as the manufacturing date of SCP-5730 is March 198█. There is no cure and or ways to stop permanent effects from SCP-5730-1.

████████: How long has this thing been affecting you?

Jack ██████: If I can recall since around September of 1990.

████████: What exactly is this "figure" you've been talking about?

Jack ██████: It's like a human, but it's white and has no features. Like it has no nose or hair. The only notable thing it has is black eyes. Think of your central pupil, but the size of the full eye. It doesn't blink either.

████████: When did you start seeing this "figure?"

Jack ██████: In my film class at ██████████ University. I was given some video camera for a semester along with 2 others, Clark ████ and Diana ████████. Our goal was to do school made videos with it. The first time we filmed it I think it was for promoting some school clubs or something. I don't exactly remember which one. When we screwed the camera on the tripod and turned it on we noticed a black mark on it. Clark thought it was a possible tube burn due to the fact the camera used some form of a video tube and they weren't able to last long if pointed at the sun.

████████: And when did you start noticing that it wasn't just a "tube burn?"

Jack ██████: It was when Diana was interviewing some club member I looked up from the viewfinder and looked down and saw that the figure was standing right behind Diana and the person she was interviewing. It scared the shit out of me! I looked back up at and back down to look at the viewfinder once again and the thing was standing next to a nearby tree in the distance. I thought I went mad for a second. When we moved the camera that thing would appear in the new frame once we'd blinked. It was like stalking us. There was no smile or blinking from it. We thought it was a ghost. Later that night I saw the thing in my sleep. It was like it was connected to me now. Early in the morning and I reviewed the tape and that fucking thing appeared on the tape in the locations we saw it in when we were filming.

████████: That is odd. When did this start effecting your perception of humans?

Jack ██████: I don't exactly know when, but I noticed it started happening more often when I used the camera. I remember one night I woke up around 1-2 A.M. and I guess I woke up my roommate as well. When I looked at him his is body and face were whatever the hell that thing from the camera was. After I blinked once he was back to normal. This would start happening more and more to the point where I'm assuming it's permanent. They move normally and talk normally, but they are just white disfigured humans with only black eyes. It happens when I look at home videos, television, photographs. Anything human is now just the figure. I can't even remember what my family looks like. Every doctor and therapist I've gone too don't know what I have. They all think I'm crazy or in some way delusional! Am I? I have no idea. The only thing that doesn't have signs of that figure is my reflection in the mirror.

████████: What happened to your 2 groupmates, Clark ████ and Diana ████████?

Jack ██████: They went mad too. Clark hung himself sometime in 95 after having some huge mental breakdown according to his family. Diana was enrolled in a mental asylum after her doctors told her she had gone mad. I'm surprised I haven't met that fate too. I learned after reading a paper in ██/ ██/93 that we 3 were not the only ones to have been effected from whatever this is.

████████: That is something. Never heard of hysteria like this. Maybe it could've been something you've interacted before you started class that day. Were you taking any medications or was there something that happened in September of 1990?

Jack ██████: No. What I'm experiencing is like a horror movie plot, but it's reality. I don't know what caused it. I have no idea what the thing is or what it wants. It just exists in my brain and my vision. I've been seeing if I could get eye surgery to see if it'll help with whatever I have. It kills me not being able to live a normal life you know?

████████: I couldn't imagine having that either. Not being able to experience joys in life. Spending time with family and friends. Instead, you have to lock yourself in and talk to people like me to prove to yourself that you'll be ok. Anyways our session is over. Dr.████ will be back in town next week to meet with you. I hope everything will go well for you. It was nice meeting you, Jack.

Closing Statement: This interview confirmed that SCP-5730-1 does appear on videotape recording. Please check Addendum 5730-2 for more information. It was also confirmed that anything that is a human either from the past and or present has been turned into SCP-5730-1 such as pre-recorded videos, live television broadcasts, photographs, etc. It was later noted that after the eye surgery he mentioned in this interview, Jack ██████ 1 day after his surgery was found dead in his home with a gunshot wound in his head on ██/ ██/99. It can be assumed that the eye surgery was a failure to get rid of the effects of SCP-5730-1.

Addendum 5730-2: SCP-5730 Tape Recordings

SCP-5730 has been tested on multiple video formats such as VHS. Betamax, 8MM, Direct MP4, etc to see if the claims from the Jack ██████ Interview that SCP-5730-1 appeared on video recordings were true. Since ██/ ██/98 - Present SCP-5730 is tested regularly for confirmation that SCP-5730-1 is still appearing on videotape recordings and on the camera's viewfinder.

Incident 5730-1: Wrong Television

+ Access Incident 5730-1 Wrong Television

On ██/ ██/05 a Jr. Researcher connected a Sony SL-2000 Betamax Recorder's composite cables to the wrong television during an SCP-5730 tape recording test. This caused 7 staff to experience temporary effects from SCP-5730-1. All the effects from SCP-5730-1 were very minor on the 7 effected staff members as they were only exposed for mere seconds.

Incident 5730-2: Superimposing

On ██/ ██/02 SCP-5730 was connected to a Superimposing/Multi-Cam effects unit. This was to test how SCP-5730-1 would adjust and or be affected by the effects unit. 5 minutes into the experiment Dr.█████ noticed that SCP-5730-1 also appeared on another camera's picture feed and viewfinder. During the superimposing experiment, SCP-5730-1 was in 2 different locations on both cameras' feeds even though both video cameras were on next to each other. The secondary video camera was tested later that day to see if SCP-5730-1 duplicated itself or moved from one camera to another. When the secondary camera was tested no signs of SCP-5730-1 were found.

Test Of Superimposing - ██/ ██/02

Subject: SCP-5730

Procedure: Connect SCP-5730 to see how SCP-5730-1 will be affected by the Superimposing effect and Multi-Cam effect.

Results: SCP-5730-1 appeared on another camera's feed when connected to the effects unit. SCP-5730-1 also appeared in 2 different locations during the superimposing test due to the fact SCP-5730-1 was in 2 different locations of the 2 camera's picture feeds despite being next to each other.

Analysis: SCP-5730-1 can inject some form of a copy of itself if connected to multiple other video cameras with all of them being in different locations.
