SCP-XXXX before its anomalous properties take place

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained on-site by Mobile Task Force Upsilon-97 "YMCA Members". SCP-XXXX should remain totally obstructed from view by blackout curtains tied at the base of the sign to prevent any light from it being viewed. This is especially considered a priority between the hours of 17:00 and 07:00 when SCP-XXXX's anamolous effects take place. The property containing SCP-XXXX is to have a 2.5 m barbed wire fence and attain the guise that the property is under construction for an indefinite period by Missouri construction company [REDACTED] Construction. A sign with the company name is to be kept up at all times, and a construction trailer is to be built on the property for the Mobile Task Force to be sure of no civilian interference or viewing of SCP-XXXX or entrance its adjacent building.

The building adjacent to SCP-XXXX on the property is to be monitored for trespassing and the origin of occurring documents and graffiti. Any unauthorized person(s) discovered in the fence line of SCP-XXXX are to be detained, questioned, and released after being administered Class-A amnestics as deemed appropriate by the foundation.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a luminescent sign that is aprroximately 4.5 meters in height. SCP-XXXX depicts two humanoid figures drawn between several lines. The humanoid figures on SCP-XXXX appear as if they are dancing. The logo on SCP-XXXX is on each side of the sign and does not have a variance. The sign is located outside of an abandoned fitness center last used in 1997. The former fitness center in the town of [REDACTED], Greene County, Missouri has no power or water to the building. It is unknown where SCP-XXXX obtains its source of power from, as all of its connections are wired to the abandoned building.

SCP-XXXX is an extreme cognitohazard. Subjects exposed to the sign while powered on after approximately 17:001 begin to show signs of hysteria following the exposure. First, subjects become unnaturally intrigued by the sign and electricity as a whole. Subjects have been shown to stand without moving for several hours while admiring the object, nodding their heads in approval and muttering compliments about it and its "power source"2. Notable compliments include praise of the design on SCP-XXXX, its luminosity and its base. The subjects affected by SCP-XXXX only cease this behavior when going unconscious due to lack of sleep or exhaustion from standing. When the subjects awaken, the behavior is continued.

No less than approximately 24 hours but no more than approximately three (3) days after the initial exposure, subjects affected by SCP-XXXX will slowly begin to sway back and forth. This swaying gradually evolves into more active movement, such as jogging in place or doing various excersizes like jumping-jacks. Through this development, the subjects further praise and compliment the sign and seem excited and motivated by its presence. When questioned about their actions, the subjects make reference to the phrase "Unreal is here!" in between their continued praise for SCP-XXXX. Subjects continue to gradually increase their physical activity until the point of extreme exhaustion. Subjects affected by SCP-XXXX will continue to move, become unconcious, and repeat that cycle until expiring from cardiac arrest.

When questioned about pain, subjects are unclear with their responses as to whether or not they can physically feel the damaging effects of their body, including cuts and bruise as well as respiratory or cardiac pain. Subjects don't answer with a "yes" or "no" response, but rather with a response that indicates how excited and motivated they feel.

The abandoned building in proximity to SCP-XXXX has been in decay since 1997. The walls and floors have been removed, and the building shows no sign of any life inhabiting it. Despite this, several discarded pieces of paper and graffiti on the floors and walls have been discovered by the foundation containing the phrase "Unreal is here." No signs of forced entry have been displayed in the building. Since the doors remain locked at all times, the origin of these instances of the phrase is unknown. Subjects affected by SCP-XXXX seem to have a knowledge of the phrase and its origin, but ignore or indirectly answer all questioning related to it.

Newspaper articles discovered by foundation researchers show that in the year 1997, the fitness center (formerly known as Hustle Hut Fitness) was closed down and abandoned after the suicide of former owner [REDACTED] of Chesterfield, Missouri. The former owner of the abandoned building killed themselves using an atypical fashion of suicide; sticking a knife into an electrical outlet in the now-abandoned building. A suicide note was not discovered initially, but was found by foundation staff after investigating the building under the guise of contractors interested in purchasing the property. The note was lodged behind the panel of a burned electrical outlet (See addendum 1) and was scrawled hastily to the point of most parts being illegible. Transcribed, the note makes reference to the former owner wanting to be "one with the caves" and needing "power and motivation". The note ends with the phrase "Unreal is here." Autopsy reports of the previous owner discovered by foundation staff show no unusual symptoms of the death.

SCP-XXXX was discovered after the foundation was made aware of a crowd of people doing varying unusual actions around the site of the abandoned fitness center. These actions included, as mentioned, people in all different stages of SCP-XXXX's effects with subjects admiring the sign, exercising, or unconscious/dead from exhaustion. Mobile Task Force Upsilon-97 "YMCA Members" were sent to detain the subjects dead and alive, and contain SCP-XXXX on site of the abandoned building. Twenty-seven (27) living subjects were obtained from the scene, as well as eight (8) subjects who expired at the scene. The subjects became extremely hostile and irritated when taken away from the sign and detained at the foundation for questioning (see Interview Logs). No incidents involving civilians have occurred since the on-site containment of SCP-XXXX was initiated. However, other anomalous incidents have occurred (see Incident logs).
