Item #: SCP-OMRT
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-OMRT is to be kept in a standard containment locker in Site-64. Testing, exploration with, or other use regarding SCP-OMRT is only to be carried out at the permission of the Site Director. Personnel using SCP-OMRT to catalog new dimensions must have a clearance level of 3 or higher and must be equipped with an Environmental Protection Suit due to the possibility that a dimension contains conditions unsuitable for human life.
Observation Lab OMRT staff are to rotate shifts every 30 days. Any significant changes to SCP-OMRT-B are to be reported to Senior Researcher ███████, and if need be, additional research/defense personnel are to be dispatched to Earth-41. (As of ██/█/██, these containment procedures are obsolete. See Addendum OMRT-1 for details.)
Description: SCP-OMRT is a dark grey metallic sphere 9.36cm in diameter. The chemical composition of SCP-OMRT is currently unknown, and is difficult to damage. A seam is present along the circumference of the sphere, splitting it into a northern and southern hemisphere. The northern hemisphere is identified by a button on what would be a pole of the sphere. Holding down the button allows for the southern hemisphere to rotate (relative to the northern) with a clicking sound heard every 1.2 degrees turned.
After the southern hemisphere is turned and the button is released, the user is transported to an alternate version of Earth within a different dimension, the sensation of which is described as being jolted awake. These dimensions are to be cataloged by the number of clicks heard while turning the hemisphere and in which direction. (E.g. Earth+10 refers to the dimension accessed by turning the hemisphere 10 clockwise clicks, while Earth-10 refers to 10 counterclockwise clicks.) Variation between dimensions is consistent with the calculations of ██████ ████████. Multiple personnel can be transported by keeping direct contact with SCP-OMRT during activation. It is hypothesized that SCP-OMRT functions by creating a localized dimensional rift, though further testing is required to verify this.
Exploration with SCP-OMRT has shown that █% of alternate Earths are uninhabitable to humans long-term, ██% are similar to ours, having only minor historical differences, and █% have major differences in history, biology, or physical properties of the planet itself. Plans are currently being established to use the access to these dimensions for the benefit of the Foundation, or in the event of a major catastrophe, humanity as a whole.
Discovery: SCP-OMRT was found in the backpack of a deceased body (hereby referred to as SCP-OMRT-A) located in an alleyway in ██████, ██████████. The body appeared to be that of a young Caucasian male, with 3 bullet wounds in its abdomen and 1 in its left thigh. SCP-OMRT-A was reported to police by city sanitation workers who came across it while on duty. The anomalous effects of SCP-OMRT were discovered by a police officer who had accidentally activated the object while inspecting it, but managed to return soon after. Agent ████ ███████, who was embedded into the police department at the time, informed the Foundation of the existence of SCP-OMRT, which was then taken into Foundation custody, along with SCP-OMRT-A. Class-A Amnestics were administered to all who came into contact with the body or SCP-OMRT, and all traces of them were erased from department records.
Investigation: Genetic testing of SCP-OMRT-A showed a complete match to that of "Markus Dalton", who was alive and a student enrolled at the ██████████ ██ ██████████, ███ ███████, at the time. Investigation into whether Markus Dalton is connected in any way to SCP-OMRT or SCP-OMRT-A is currently ongoing. A spiral notebook, a map of ██████████ with an "x" near ██████, a compass, and various writing utensils were also found in the backpack of SCP-OMRT-A. Written in the notebook, among unintelligible scribbles, were series of numbers and pluses followed by another number with a minus sign in a box (Example: +1, +1, +2, +5, +4, +7, -20).
During Exploration-06, the boxed numbers were applied to SCP-OMRT, which led explorers to the dimension designated Earth-41. Earth-41 appeared to be a version of Earth in which Humans either never evolved, or died out long in the past. On a subsequent visit, the exploration team made their way to the location of the "x" that was written on the map and found a small primitive village composed of mud huts, which was then designated SCP-OMRT-B.
SCP-OMRT-B is a village who's population consists of 741 individuals genetically identical to Markus Dalton, and presumably, all from different dimensions. Inquiry into the origin of SCP-OMRT and SCP-OMRT-B has been met vague answers from each denizen asked, and further insistence on a clear answer has been met with hostility towards Foundation personnel.
Observation Facility OMRT has been established near SCP-OMRT-B for the purpose of monitoring and performing tests on the population of SCP-OMRT-B and the area as a whole. Current tests are determining the dimensional stability of the area, as it is unknown what effects the widespread use dimensional rifts are. To date, ██ interrogation attempts on citizens of SCP-OMRT-B have taken place, however, no new information has been gathered, despite escalation in techniques being used. Additional sessions are currently being scheduled.
Addendum OMRT-1: Due to curiosity regarding the death rate within SCP-OMRT-B by the staff of OF-OMRT, a census was taken on █/██/████ which revealed that the population had risen from 741 to 826 in the █ months since initial contact was established. The possibility of multiple SCP-OMRT existing within SCP-OMRT-B is currently being investigated.
Addendum OMRT-2: On ██/██/████, citizens of SCP-OMRT-B assaulted OF-OMRT staff during the monthly shift rotation. When additional personnel arrived to the area it was found that all researchers staffed at OF-OMRT had expired due to injuries sustained in the attack. Additionally, all citizens of SCP-OMRT-B were no longer present within the village, which was in a state of disrepair after appearing to have been ransacked. A thorough search of the surrounding area was conducted, however, nothing was found. Due to this event, OF-OMRT has been abandoned indefinitely.
MTF Eta-7 ("Broken Mirror")
MTF Eta-7 ("Broken Mirror") consists of 7 different instances of the same person from different dimensions.
