Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter [early assignment]
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in an 8x8x8 meter humanoid containment cell with standard furnishings. [unfinished]
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous entity that has two forms corresponding to an active and a dormant state. In its dormant state, SCP-XXXX resembles a large designer briefcase. This briefcase cannot be opened and is anomalously durable. The period SCP-XXXX spends in dormant form is irregular, and can last anywhere from five days to three weeks. Once the period ends, SCP-XXXX's active form will manifest within two kilometers from its dormant location. Normally, SCP-XXXX manifests inside sheltered, vacant locations. However, it often appears within vacant rooms of luxury hotels. The nature of this pattern is currently unknown.
When active, SCP-XXXX is a 177.8 cm tall humanoid figure with grey skin and a bandaged face. Scars of various types can be seen near the mouth, ears, and right eye. In this form, SCP-XXXX will wear formal clothing that matches the local culture. Normally, the entity is seen wearing a black three-piece suit and appropriate accessories. However, this is only SCP-XXXX's initial form.
SCP-XXXX has the ability to shapeshift. It normally will change its appearance to ease any suspicions or assimilate itself into an organization. Based on records, SCP-XXXX can maintain its form indefinitely. It has been observed that SCP-XXXX does not require focus to remain transformed, and will not return to its default appearance when unconscious or resting.
Despite its anomalous properties, SCP-XXXX's active form has needs similar to that of a physically fit human in their early 30s. The entity requires a similar amount of food, water, rest, and nutrients in order to maintain its humanoid form. If SCP-XXXX expires in its active form or enters a state of shock, it will demanifest and return to a dormant form elsewhere.
In its active form, SCP-XXXX displays considerable combat skills with numerous conventional and anomalous weapons. When required, it will primarily use these weapons:
- A silenced .22 caliber HDM pistol that is completely silent and does not leave gunshot residue when fired.
- An ornate pocket knife that can be transformed into two daggers.
In addition to weapons, SCP-XXXX has used various items with anomalous effects to adapt to various situations. Most items appear to be single-use and often manifest spontaneously to SCP-XXXX's needs. Reported examples of recurring items include:
- A playing card resembling the ace of spades, except its active form is depicted in place of the spade symbol. The card has mild hypnotic abilities, and those exposed are briefly more vulnerable to suggestions in the presence of SCP-XXXX.
- A set of adhesive office notes that SCP-XXXX can hear through, despite containing no components of bugs or similar devices.
- A contact lens that allows SCP-XXXX to gain the perspective of video cameras near it.
Outside of combat, SCP-XXXX has proven to be an intelligent, amiable entity. Although it is fluent in most commonly spoken languages, SCP-XXXX defaults to American English with a slight British accent. Furthermore, SCP-XXXX has shown evidence of having a photographic memory as well as some form of lifespan extension. It has provided extremely detailed accounts of several diplomatic events from the last two centuries. See Addenda for further information.
Regardless of form, SCP-XXXX appears to have anti-memetic properties of an unknown level. When its dormant form manifests inside an occupied building (such as a hotel), staff and guests have a subconscious urge to ignore or avoid the site of manifestation. In its active state, people who observe the entity feel a sense of familiarity and ease. SCP-XXXX also appears to be able to distort records related to itself and its current alias. Video footage showing the entity's true form is often distorted. Moreover, printed records of the entity's current alias show defects or heavy redactions after SCP-XXXX demanifests or leaves the area. Those who question the entity will show signs of short-term memory loss.
Addendum-01: Interview between SCP-XXXX and Dr. Amanda Irons. At the time, SCP-XXXX has been posing as Dr. Arthur Brand, a researcher. "Arthur" was taken into questioning after he was reported for accessing classified data.
- Dr. Irons: Alright, I'm sure you know why you're here.
- Dr. Brand: Actually, I don't. I admit that I've acted above my rank, but let me ask you this: At what point does secrecy lose its value? Everyone has skeletons in their closets. Whereas most people have little secrets, this foundation has reality-defying, world-ending, and frankly, pretty big secrets. After all, that's your goal. Your raison d'etre. Your motto.
- Dr. Irons: There's a reason for that here. Our mission is to secure, contain, and protect. Behind the obvious, we work to keep our way of existence safe. Behind those classifications are details that could shake reality itself. Also, you're lucky that you were peeping through a low-risk anomaly's files. If that was something else, the foundation…and maybe the world would be in jeopardy.
- Dr. Brand: Exactly. However, all this vigilance could be locking away vital information. Throughout history, man has spurned those who seek the truth. Eons ago, if I were to say "the Earth was round", I'd be dead for heresy. Now, here I am, potentially awaiting a bullet to the head for knowing the truth.
- Dr. Irons: Clearly, you don't understand the gravity of the situation here. Here, information itself is a risk. Infohazards, Memetic beings, and at the surface, our security are all examples. Also, I'm sure you know the risks of your actions.
- Dr. Brand: Sure, I do. I've studied all manner of missives, secrets, and dossiers that would potentially get me killed. I don't fear the hangman, the bullet, or the stockade. The fact that SCP-█████ is [DATA EXPUNGED] doesn't faze me one bit. All that matters is that it's all the truth, and although I'm withdrawn about my studies, I believe they should be shared when the situation arises.
- Dr. Irons: Wait, what? Identify yourself, Dr. Brand, or you will be designated for termination.
- Dr. Brand: I think our time here is up. In the end, a name is fleeting. Just a bunch of letters strung together and tied to someone. Now, my knowledge? That's something that'll last a bit longer. As for identification, here's my card (the anomalous ace of spades). It's not like you'll need it any time soon.
Afterward, Dr. Brand changes appearance while Dr. Irons looks at the card. SCP-XXXX is briefly seen on the camera footage before a short period of damaged video. In the researcher's place, a corpse wearing a D-Class uniform appears with a bullet wound near its upper torso. The only other evidence retrieved was a roll of gauze bandages.
Addendum-02 Interview between Professor █████, Dean of International Affairs at a university located in New York City and Dr. Boxford Black regarding the appearance of Dr. Lynden, a professor of foreign policy. [unfinished]
- Dr. Black: As a professor, who exactly was Dr. Lynden?
- Professor █████: Well, Dr. Lynden had an interesting charm to him. He was new, yet everyone felt like he was an acquaintance from way back.
- Dr. Black: Did you notice anything atypical about him?
- Professor █████:
Item #:SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The town containing SCP-XXXX's anomalous zone is currently sequestered from the public. All civilian traffic except air travel is to be diverted from the town. In order to minimize suspicion, false construction and maintenance sites have been established in roads leading to the town. The waters off of SCP-XXXX's anomalous zone are guarded by Mobile Task Force unit Sigma-54 (Also known as the Oystercatchers). Any boats within 4 kilometers of the anomalous zone are to be stopped, and passengers are to be transported for quarantine. Bio Site-48 has been established as a provisional research site on the outskirts of town, 10 kilometers away from the object's anomalous zone. Any living instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be observed under quarantine until they expire from shock or enter SCP-XXXX's aquatic stage. [terminate or contain?] Any SCP-XXXX corpses are to be transported to Site-48 for autopsy and dissection. After studies have been completed, the cadaver is to be summarily incinerated (see addendum XXXX-02).
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous area located near the coastal town of █████████, Maine. Within this location, SCP-XXXX's anomalous zone begins on ███████ municipal beach and extends 3.5 kilometers into the waters off of it. Any terrestrial, warm-blooded animal that enters SCP-XXXX's anomalous zone is susceptible to a powerful; mutagenic agent. The source of this anomalous property is currently unknown. Organisms affected by SCP-XXXX will undergo extreme morphological changes, causing them to take on traits of various marine animals. Once mutated, these organisms are known as SCP-XXXX-1 SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties affect infected animals at a cellular level, and research indicates that SCP-XXXX mutations are the result of tissue conversion properties. The mutations progress in a manner similar to viral infection and will often begin at the epidermal layer (See addendum XXXX-01 for further information). In the majority of cases, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will expire due to a combination of shock, cellular mutation, and necrosis. However, some instances have survived mutation, and two living SCP-XXXX-1 instances are currently kept in marine ecosystem tanks for observation.
Addendum XXXX-01: The following is an observation log of an SCP-XXXX-1 instance (A 25-year old human male when collected by MTF operatives).
**Instance XXXX-1H **
Species: Homo Sapiens
Sex: Male
Age: 25
Date of Quarantine: August 7th, 2014
- Days 1-3: No symptoms observed. Vital signs and blood test results are typical for a 20-year old male.
- Day 4: Subject complains of moderate itching throughout his right arm. Before going to sleep, the subject has reported that the sensation has spread to his corresponding pectoral muscle region.
- Day 5: Subject appears agitated. In areas where prior itching was reported, the epidermal layer has sloughed off, revealing ichthyoid scales. Sampling indicates that the scales are composed of keratin and trace amounts of enamel. The subject has reported pain throughout the night.
- Day 7: Itching has become severe, and subject requires analgesic treatments to limit pain. Scales have spread throughout the left side of the subject's upper body. Small growths similar in appearance to barnacles of the genus Amphibalanus are observed near the subject's ears and left wrist.
- Day 9: Subject reports numbness below the waist and occasional periods of reduced movement. Barnacle growths have now spread over the left eye and have increased in size.
- Night 9: Emergency nurse called to quarantine room after multiple screams are heard by a nearby custodian. The subject is found unconscious in a contorted position with the legs clasped together. Subject is then transported to a hospital bed. Further observations indicate severe muscle rigidity in the legs.
- Day 10: Subject's feet show signs of necrosis. Scale formation has rapidly spread throughout the legs and the tissue growths have fused the subject's knees.
- Day 11: [DATA EXPUNGED]. Subject has expired due to severe cellular stress.
- Autopsy: Tissue samples indicate widespread DNA transformation. Genes found in several classes of marine organisms found. Cadaver incinerated immediately after testing.
Addendum XXXX-02: Multiple corpses of SCP-XXXX-1 instances resembling Polychaete worms collected near a roadside burial. The body was exhumed and appeared to be in an advanced state of decomposition. DNA tests and burial engravings indicated that the buried cadaver was an SCP-XXXX afflicted dog. Further research on the worms indicate that consumption and internal contact with SCP-XXXX-1 tissue could potentially transmit SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The subway station containing SCP-XXXX is currently sealed to the public, and surrounding buildings have been purchased by foundation cover businesses. The station itself is guarded by MTF unit [greek letter, number], codenamed the "Ratcatchers". In the event of a containment breach involving extradimensional anomalies, the station is to be locked down through the use of automatic gateways and a Scranton Reality Anchor until the anomalous entity has been neutralized or taken for observation.
Object Description: SCP-XXXX is an alternate version of the American Museum of Natural History accessible through a dimensional anomaly within the decommissioned ████ Street Subway Station in New York, New York. Near the train platform, a large mural depicting the closed jaws of a fossilized shark will open between 05:30 PM and 8:45 AM, which roughly coincides with the standard closing time of the prime reality's museum. When the mural depicts an open jaw, the spatial anomaly enters an "active" state, connecting the anomaly to the prime reality. Removing or painting over the mural has proven inconclusive, these actions have resulted in a new mural appearing instantaneously in the same location.
The area accessed through SCP-XXXX is mostly analogous to the American Museum of Natural History in terms of its floorplan and architecture. However, the museum's interior is significantly larger than its counterpart in the prime reality. Moreover, the facility is consistently devoid of patrons or staff. Despite the aforementioned lack of custodial workers, all exhibits and amenities of the museum appear to be in clean condition. The overall layout of the exhibits mirrors the prime reality's, but the contents within often change and show markedly different scenarios. (See addendum XXXX-1 for log of exhibits).
Addendum XXXX-01: The following is a series of logs detailing noteworthy artifacts found within SCP-XXXX's exhibits, which are referred to as SCP-XXXX-A. In Entry-01, a team of Foundation researchers and D-Class Personnel entered the museum with standard video, audio, and survival equipment.
SCP-XXXX Entry 01 Log
- Date of incursion: 12/09/2002.
- Exhibits tested: Hall of Biodiversity, Gardner D. Stout Hall of Asian Peoples, Rose Center for Earth and Space, and an unknown exhibit titled "the hall of timelines"
- Details recorded:
- A series of dioramas depicting what appears to be various historical scenarios. The text is written in a cuneiform-like language that roughly resembles avian tracks. Each diorama depicts an unknown species of dromaeosaurids with corvid traits. Tests of tools and artifacts within the exhibit reveal an unknown type of DNA, but the closest species of the prime reality is the common raven. Location: temporary exhibit.
- An Ancient Armenian ceramic vase. The exterior appears to be overgrown in an unknown red, flesh-like substance that responded to stimuli such as sound through extending small tendrils. Location: Gardner D. Stout Hall of Asian Peoples.
- A display of a skeleton analogous to Dromaeus Novaehollandiae of the prime reality. A plaque below the exhibit describes the extinction of the Emu in the early 18th century. Location: Hall of Biodiversity.
- A large, bronze spherical structure proportional in size and location to the Hayden Planetarium Theater. [DATA LOST]. The D-Class personnel recording information about the structure lost video connection and was never found after the operatives left SCP-XXXX. Location: Rose Center for Earth and Space.
Log 2 idea summary: Hall of timelines depicts a timeline where the Vikings successfully colonized North America and a temporary exhibit on thaumaturgy.
SCP-XXXX Entry 03 Log
- Date of Excursion: 03/24/2004
- Exhibits tested: Hayden Planetarium (observed using a remote-operated robotic probe)
- SCP-XXXX-A instances observed:
- A black, radial pattern of corrosion emanating from the apex of the planetarium structure. After entering the planetarium structure, the camera briefly recorded a dark interior, which when illuminated, revealed that the structure was hollow except for a platform containing five cylindrical columns. Moreover, a pattern resembling a black human nervous system was etched upon the walls of the structure. Below it was the D-Class' camera equipment and communication device. As the robotic apparatus returned to its operator, a similar radial black effect appeared on the screen followed by a loud, low-frequency sound that lasted for 10 seconds. Afterward, the probe's camera ceased to function. One hour after the camera technician returned to the mainstream reality from SCP-XXX, he reported visual hallucinations of [DATA EXPUNGED]. The technician momentarily began to convulse violently, and spoke the Latin words "Scientia. Venenum. Mutare. Somnumque gravatur. Interitus. Nullum dissipatur." before entering a vegetative state and expiring. An autopsy of their body revealed a similar radial corrosion effect found on the spherical structure within SCP-XXXX.
