Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Under investigation. No successful attempts to contain SCP-XXXX have been recorded. All failed attempts have been listed at the bottom of this document.

Description: SCP-XXXX is known respectively by personnel as "Case F2", relating to the latin term "figura furem", meaning "shape thief". Sightings of F2 are usually misinterpreted and overlooked, but any sightings of human sized, quadruped creatures should be investigated for telltale signs of F2's general behaviors.

F2 does not immediately seem dangerous to average civilians, but those with known criminal records or those under investigation for criminal activity for 'immoral' acts such as murder, violation based assault, physical abuse of minors, etc. who have been spotted around a known F2 sighting location, should be closely monitored, as the entity tends to stalk its target for an average of 3-5 days before making any kind of contact.

It is known to the foundation that SCP-XXXX can steal the forms of other living beings by consuming them, as stated by SCP-XXXX itself. During this interaction it had been contained at a police station in [REDACTED]. Law enforcement officials had captured what they thought was a normal criminal, who had just been identified for a murder some years prior, due to evidence that the creature had accidentally uncovered while tracking them. The foundation was alerted to suspicious activity at the police station and promptly intervened. SCP-XXXX had already started to change forms into that of a large cat-like creature, but did not attempt to run when questioned by foundation staff. It stated that it did not want to leave with them however, but would not hurt them. Due to lack of preparations and research on the subject at that time, it was seen as best to let it leave and attempt to closely monitor it. Staff had lost track of the subject again within three hours.

It is unknown what level of intelligence F2 possesses, or if that level changes with the form it holds. It does however seem to have its own ideas of morality, and a will to enact its own vigilante justice. It does not seem to have any kind of supernatural foresight, and will only act on activities it has witnessed itself. F2 has often been seen and encountered in areas where crime rates are high, such as high-street districts, alleyways, and dark wooded areas that people tend to take shortcuts through though otherwise advised against. It has not yet been recorded to have ever attacked an 'innocent', but it should not be underestimated. Do not disregard your own safety if approaching SCP-XXXX. Due to lack of evidence on the part of civilian law enforcers, most cases of F2's attacks have been on individuals that were not legally recorded to have committed any crimes. It is unclear if that has any basis on the creature's choice in victim.

Most verified sightings of F2 in non-human forms have been documented as it being only slightly larger than a human, panther-like, mostly black, with glowing red eyes. Though there have been more unverified sightings with yellow or orange eyes. The subject is recorded to have suggested that this is purposeful, stating to containment staff on one occasion "no one would believe you if you said you saw a panther with red eyes in the woods". The variety of creatures that F2 could take the form of is unknown, and there are many indications that it has been spotted as a vulture sized bird, though this cannot be verified.

The verified instances of F2 stealing the faces of known humans are limited, although it is known that the level of detail is inconsistent. The overall appearance is very similar, though fingerprints, birthmarks, scars, tattoos, and various identifying features are not only wrong, but mostly completely absent. It seems as though F2 is unaware of many of these features, and it is in the foundation's best interest that this entity not learn of the reasons humans have things such as fingerprints, so that if it is possible for it to form them, it does not. This makes identifying it much easier.

Addendum: Unsuccessful containment attempts:

Attempt 1: [REDACTED]

Situation: The entity falsified its own capture to devour a member of foundation staff that had been openly following it. At first it was suspected that it wanted to access something within the foundation, but all records of the staff member in question, along with their special access levels, were void immediately. Although, the entity never attempted to enter the facility.

Conclusion: It has since been concluded that there was an incident that led to this situation, which has been recorded in [REDACTED]. It seems as though F2 witnessed this situation, and made itself known to the member of staff at will to corner them. This has led to stricter screening of foundation staff in certain areas.

Attempt 2: SCP-XXXX was contained, in the form of a human, in a simple police questioning room, which was locked. It was apparent that it did want to leave, and attempted to break down the door in classic fashion. It was unsuccessful.

Situation: Foundation representatives later attended the station after being alerted to suspicious happenings. The creature appeared to be in the process of casually shape-shifting, and explained to them plainly what had led to its capture, which has been reported in [REDACTED] in more detail. It stated it did not want to hurt them, but it wanted to leave. Due to lack of knowledge on the subject, and to avoid a civilian scene, it was concluded the best option to let it leave. Staff proceeded to help it escape undetected, as that would have drawn attention.

Conclusion: There has been discussion as to whether the subject knew the foundation would attend, and if it was a threat to uncover itself and cause a scene, or if it was genuinely morphing to become able to escape forcefully.

Attempt 3: [REDACTED]

Situation: [REDACTED]

Conclusion: Force should not be used against this organism. Containment staff attending must wear appropriate protective gear at all times.

Attempt 4: The subject was observed to be fatally wounded, and staff attended to assist, to avoid a civilian scene if the creature was discovered. The subject was later confined to a standard facility cell.

Situation: The subject was in the form of a larger-than-average black house cat. More details on its overall appearance during this encounter are noted [REDACTED]. The subject was moved and treated, although the cause of the injuries are unknown. It was moved to a standard cell and put on 24 hour watch. Although precautions were taken, within three days it somehow escaped, destroying CCTV equipment. All details on how this occurred have been stricken from official documentation, but it seems outside intervention may have occurred.

Attempt 4: No actual attempt was made to confine SCP-XXXX on this occasion, as it delivered an, at-the-time, unknown object to the facility under the guise of a helpful, incognito, individual. It was however requested that this instance be recorded as a failed attempt, as it should have been captured.

Situation: SCP-XXXX delivered what has now been categorized as SCP-XXXX to patrol staff on the grounds of [REDACTED], in the form of an unidentified human. As this was not an attempted capture, and the staff member in question was not aware of the identity of the creature, they did not attempt to apprehend it.

Conclusion: There were apparent telltale signs that this was a wanted subject that the member of staff should have recognized. All staff on the site were reprimanded and re-educated on their wanted subjects.
