Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a steel box impenetrable by light. This box is to be placed in a standard containment cell, with exactly two observers watching it at all times. If SCP-XXXX is to be interacted with, one security camera is to be disabled no more than thirty seconds before the researcher is to observe SCP-XXXX. No other personnel are to directly intereact with SCP-XXXX during this time, and any footage of SCP-XXXX directly exposed to the camera is not to observed by personnel with a psychic resistance score below seven corvides. In the event that SCP-XXXX is directly observed in any manner by a different amount of observers for more than thirty seconds, all possible targets for event SCP-XXXX-A within ten kilometers are to be located and contained in a standard humanoid containment cell until SCP-XXXX is recontained, or until twenty-six hours after the event.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a fiberglass sheet measuring 12 cm × 36 cm × 1 cm, manufactured by Nebulae Plastics. When SCP-XXXX enters a person's field of view, they are compelled to stop their current actions and focus all of their attention on it. This effect is weak and can be easily ignored by most people, and does not last after the initial compulsion. If it is ignored, SCP-XXXX appears to be unanomalous to that person until it exits and re-enters their vision, at which point they are compelled to look at it again. If the urge is followed, SCP-XXXX appears to become completely clear and shows a starfield behind it that differs depending on the observer. If the person remains focused on SCP-XXXX for more than 387 seconds, they enter a state of "astral projection" that can be exited by stopping direct observation of SCP-XXXX. In this state, a person can see through (In addition to the sight of their physical body) a complete spherical field of view that retains perfect clarity and detail for up to 1.5 kilometers centered on a point directly above SCP-XXXX. This point can be moved at the will of the observer to any location within ten kilometers of SCP-XXXX. After being in this state for more than two hours, some observers report an unwillingness to leave this state, saying that they feel a sense of peace and carelessness. All observers who do not feel this at the two hour point will immediately cease to be affected by all anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX, and event SCP-XXXX-A will be triggered. After ten hours of this state, the body of the observer will enter a coma permanently, although brain activity suggests that they still are observing and processing the sight from the "astral projection" state consciously. If the number of observers, technological or organic, remains different than two for more than thirty seconds, an instance of event SCP-XXXX-A will be triggered. Observing SCP-XXXX indirectly through a medium such as photographs or videos will cause the viewer to experience mild insanity and feel supportive of the Nebulae Plastics company if they do not have a resistance to powerful cognitohazard affects.
Event SCP-XXXX-A:
SCP-XXXX will transport itself to a random position within both direct sunlight and the field of view of a random individual who: is between the ages of 19 and 35 years, retains full vision, and is considered generally intelligent or especially proficient in their subject by more than four people. This individual will immediately enter the coma stage of the "astral projection" state. All other individuals that fit the previous criteria will begin to speak one of six random phrases supporting the Nebulae Plastics company every thirty seconds. The event will end naturally twenty-six hours after its start, and can be forcefully ended by stopping sunlight from reaching SCP-XXXX.
Addendum:
On 10/25/201█, a raid was conducted on the headquarters of Nebulae Plastics. Plans for SCP-XXXX were found, and a computer with the ability to observe from the point of view of anyone being affected by SCP-XXXX was discovered. A text file named "useless-people.txt" on this computer contains a list of names of every person who was "rejected" by SCP-XXXX. Nebulae Plastics has been dissolved by the Foundation under the cover story of tax fraud.
