Item #: SCP-4052

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-4052 is to be kept in a secured 10cmx10cm passcode-locked resin box insulated with rubber, containing a built in cryogenic refrigeration unit, and stored at Bio-Sector-1 of SITE-73. SCP-4052's cryogenic refrigeration unit is never to be turned off until the organism is removed from its containment entirely to prevent damage to itself.

If SCP-4052 is ever to be removed from containment for any reason whatsoever, it and all related personnel must be subject to the following process: the resin box will be unlocked with the passcode, granted to any Personnel with a Level 3 Clearance or higher upon necessity; the open box will be immediately placed in the de-cryonization chamber for removal of containment fluids; and the organism will be removed from the box, utilizing latex gloves, and placed on a small ceramic plate.

No direct skin contact with any part of SCP-4052 is permitted at any time. Any instances of SCP-4052-A are to be tested and subsequently destroyed by manner of incineration.

If an instance of SCP-4052-A is to occur on a living animal and discovered within the first 7 hours, they are to be quarantined and have their SCP-4052-A affected body parts amputated immediately.

Description: SCP-4052 is a standard, ripened, tomato plant (Solanus Lycopersicum) that appears normal to all natural human senses. SCP-4052-1 is approximately 6cm, red, and cannot be differentiated from a standard tomato without utilizing a [REDACTED]. SCP-4052-1 centrally exhibits two main properties that are of interest to the Foundation: it is scientifically a vegetable in every way, and it can physically alter other organisms' chemical structure into versions of itself. When DNA tests were performed on the organism after its initial discovery, it was confirmed to be classified as a vegetable by utilizing all previously documented methods of Plantae classification.

After the plant was examined more closely, it was discovered that it had not roots, or any root-like structures such as rhizoids, but a standard tomato in its place. It was also discovered that, over a period of growth and nourishment, the leaves of the plant grew into tomatoes as well, forcing the plant to begin to bend over. After an even longer period of time, SCP-4052's stem turned entirely into a tomato. Slowly, over a multitude of separate periods of growth and nourishment to the plant, different parts of SCP-4052 became tomatoes, until the entire plant became a mass of multiple tomatoes stuck together. At this point the organism's processes changed. The connected tomatoes began merging together, requiring no nourishment or sunlight, until they formed one central tomato known as SCP-4052-1.

If SCP-4052 comes into contact with any other living organism, it will create an instance of SCP-4052-A. Any instance of SCP-4052-A will begin, one biological part at a time, converting into a mass of connected tomatoes, nearly identical to the original (SCP-4052-1), but with different numbers of tomatoes based on the numbers of parts of the organism in question.

Any possible variation of SCP-4052 will always be a vegetable. The originally discovered tomato plant grew tomatoes not in the form of berries (as they naturally appear), but as roots, stems, and leaves. Vegetables are defined as specified parts of a plant, and fruits are defined as flowers or berries that sprout from a plant This is the differentiation between fruits and vegetables that deems SCP-4052 as an official, scientific vegetable, the fact that it becomes an essential part of any organism, not a sprout or seed.

Addendum 001 (History): SCP-4052 was originally discovered by Foundation Researcher Dr. ███████, growing in the garden of his own [DATA EXPUNGED], on April 1st, 20██, seemingly as an attempted comedic stunt by local teenagers (This is due to the fact that Dr. ███████' [DATA EXPUNGED] was not growing any tomato plants in her garden at the time; and that the initial discovery took place on April Fool's Day, a day of the year largely attributed with such "pranks"). Upon initial inspection by [DATA EXPUNGED], the plant appeared to be a standard tomato plant, but when examined by Dr. ███████, it was discovered otherwise. Previously thought to be the same group of teenagers removing the garden plants and replanting tomatoes in their place, SCP-4052 had come into contact with other plants and turned their leaves into tomatoes as well. Over time, the entire garden was tomatomized (official term for the process of becoming an instance of SCP-4052-A). After discovering its anomalous properties, Dr. ███████ contacted the Foundation. During this same night, Dr. ███████' [DATA EXPUNGED]'s dog came into physical contact with SCP-4052 when it attempted to consume the organism. This resulted in the first recorded instance of SCP-4052-A. At this point, the anomalies were confiscated into Foundation ownership and immediately placed within their current containment procedures. The remainder of the garden and affected subjects were immediately destroyed, and SCP-4052-1 was contained.

Note by Dr. ███████: "It MAKES you a plant and it BECOMES YOUR VEGETABLE!"
