Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-4XXX is to be suspended in a 10 meter x 10 meter x 10 meter glass cell with an acid proof coating. The cell will have hoses positioned every foot in the along the exterior of the cell in case SCP-4XXX drifts toward the edge of the containment cell. The cell is to be suspended two (2) meters off the ground and a minimum of two (2) meters from any facility wall. The cell is to be filled completely with a combination of salt water and 30 molar sulfuric acid¹ such that SCP-4XXX will float suspended in the center of the inner cell. The outer cell floor will be coated in an acid proof material. The cell will be a minimum of 50 meters from its neighboring cell.

Solid cylindrical of materials of various compositions will be placed in a two (2) meter grid going out from the containment unit. The cylinders will be 0.75 meters tall and with a 0.4 meters in diameter. The materials will be made up of various materials common to urban environments including but not limited to concrete, steel, glass, wood, copper, etc. (Note: complete chemical purity is not necessary for containment. Furthermore, exact placement and configuration of the cylinders is isn't important). Twice per day two (2) class D personnel enter the outer containment cell and use a portable pneumatic crusher to attempt to crush the cylinders at 0.75 the strength necessary to break them. In the event of a cylinder breaking, the facility will follow the minor containment breach detailed below.

All personal in the facility are required to wear heart monitors/GPS connected wireless to an offsite security post. In the event of any personal being detected as being asleep a two (2) man security team will investigate to ensure SCP-4XXX influence is not present. Regardless of the reason, the response team will also inspect the containment cell to ensure that SCP-4XXX is still successfully contained. In the event of multiple personal being found to be asleep in within three (3) hours time, the cell will enter lockdown and a full armed response team (detailed below) will enter the facility, evacuate unconscious personnel and follow the major containment breach protocol listed below.

In the event of a minor containment breach as identified by multiple facility personal falling asleep, containment cylinders breaking or the inner containment cell breaking, all unnecessary personal should evacuate to a range 250 meters while containment is reestablish. All SCP-4XXX tendrils will be severed and SCP-4XXX will be drenched in the acidic mixture mentioned above until proper containment procedure can be reestablished.

In the event of a major containment breach as identified by the presence of SCP-4XXX-03, the cell will enter lockdown and an armed response unit of no less then eight (8) personal will assault the containment cell. The personal will be armed with grenade launchers, anti-material rifles and incendiary grenades. Once all instances of SCP-4XXX-03 are neutralized, personal will destroy any tendrils that SCP-4XXX generated and drench SCP-4XXX in the acidic mixture mentioned above until it can be returned to proper containment. Once proper containment is reestablished all SCP-4XXX-03 specimens will be treated as a low level biohazard. All samples will be incinerated with certain samples being retained for study at the discretion of the lead researcher.

Due to the difficulty and hazards involved with re-containing SCP-4XXX from within SCP-4XXX-01, experimentation is only allowed with the express written permission of two (2) level 4 researchers.

Description:

SCP-4XXX is a smooth transparent crystal cylinder ² 2 meters in height and 0.5 meters in diameter weighing approximately 300 kg. SCP-4XXX is notably colder then the surrounding environment due to it's ability to absorb all known forms of energy including thermal, gamma, nuclear, electrical, sound and XXXXXXX.

SCP-4XXX's primary anomalous property activate after approximately 2 hours of uninterrupted contact with a solid material such as concrete. SCP-4XXX will begin to "grow" thin hollow clear tube similar to fiber optic cables approximately 2 mm in diameter at the point of contact. These tubes (henceforth refereed to as tentacles) will "grow" through the material . Due to the difficulty of measuring the tentacles thought the material, the exact speed is unknown however it has been estimated at between 0.1 and 0.3 m/hr with faster speeds associated with softer materials. Through an unknown means, the tentacles will harvest as much of the material as possible by hollowing out the material. The hollowing will continue until the absolute minimum necessary for maintaining structural integrate. The excess is moved through the tentacles via an unknown means. The excess is used to construct structures proportional in size to the available material (henceforth referred to has SCP-4XXX-01). The structures will start as a small room and grow until it is the size of a small building and ultimately a city filling in all necessary details as it grows (i.e. furniture/windows/etc. At time of SCP-4XXX's containment, SCP-4XXX-01 had grown to the size of 20 square block city complete with town hall, park, post office, several restaurants, an office building and approximate local population of 2000 SCP-4XXX-02 instances. SCP-4XXX forming a large clocktower around itself as materials become available. The architectural style of the structures resembles those found in urban America circa 1980's. Any structure damaged or destroyed will be broken down and rebuilt proportional to it's size with two story houses taking aproximatly 5 days to completely repair itself. Severing SCP-4XXX tentacle will make SCP-4XXX-01 unable to self-repair and will remove all "sleep song" effects.

After the structure is complete it begins to generate a quiet song which makes those who hear it start to get tired and want to rest. The strength of the song seems to be very subtle with few noticing it at all and the effect subtle enough that most people thinking that they just had a long day regardless of how long ago or how well they slept. The range of SCP-4XXX "sleep song" for lack of a better term, is proportional to the size of the structure(s) it creates. A single room (100 square feet) has a range of approximately 20 feet from the edge of structure. Larger structures can transmit it up to 200 feet. The "song" is not transmitted along any identifiable auditory frequency and instead seems to be sent directly into the minds of nearby nearby potential victims. DNA testing on SCP-4XXX-03 instances shows that animals are affected by the sound too.

Any individual resting in range of SCP-4XXX's "sleep song" will enter a deep sleep and SCP-4XXX tentacles will begin to harvest them in the same way it does inorganic materials. SCP-4XXX takes approximately 8 hours to completely harvest them at which point they are a new instance of SCP-4XXX-02. SCP-4XXX-02 are seemingly unable to perform any kind of complex thoughts or problem solving activity and are instead directed to perform actions at the behest of SCP-4XXX-03. The actives are things that would seem normal to any passers by (i.e. eating a meal at a restaurant, driving a car, reading a book). Remote surveillance reveals that these activities are completely hollow and are done purely for the appearance of normalcy. If left undisturbed they will repeat the same activities in the exact same way every day. They seem incapable of changing behavior or even doing anything that SCP-4XXX-03 doesn't explicitly tell them to do. [Expand on this]

The organic material harvested from SCP-4XXX-02 formed into an SCP-4XXX-03 instances which appear as an ordinary person of racial features similar to the harvested SCP-4XXX-02 specimens. However, SCP-4XXX-03 is shown to be extremely strong and resilient to damage from small arms weapon fire. Postmortem analysis of SCP-4XXX-03 shows that it has muscle and bone density nearly 5 times stronger then average people. Subsequent DNA testing shows that it contains muscle samples from several different people and occasionally different species including squirrels, dogs, cats, deer and even bear.

It is unknown what SCP-4XXX does with the excess brain material.

SCP-4XXX lures newcomers in by sending out various types of invitations to people that are related to the SCP-4XXX-02's. A short list of examples are as follows:

• Invitation to a wedding
• Invitation to a funeral
• An inheritance to the newcomer but they have to come to town to do some paper work.
• Invitation to festival/holiday function.

SCP-4XXX-03 has three main rolls in SCP-4XXX-01. The fist is that it acts as a coordinator for the SCP-4XXX-02 instances. Telling them what to do and how to behave and changing their rolls as the SCP-4XXX-01 grows. The second is to interact with newcomers and potential SCP-4XXX-02's. Since SCP-4XXX-03's are capable of advanced problem solving and logic, they act as the face of the town and place themselves in positions where they are most likely to interact with newcomers (i.e. cops, watresses, clerks, etc.). While in this role they will do everything in their power to convince people to willingly spend the night. Some examples are as follows

• Telling newcomers of a big local festive tomorrow (although it never happens).
• Some local holiday so some official offices are closed and they'll need to try again tomorrow.
• Cause a minor car crash (nothing life threatening but enough that a mechanic needs to do repairs)
• Some legal/bureaucratic process takes more then one day to complete.
• Road work on the main road.
• Power lines fell main road.
• Some local kid stole the newcomers keys.

The third job is to defend the SCP-4XXX tower and prevent anyone from damaging it or severing the tentacles. Normally, it does this by warning of a chemical spill or similar hazard that will prevent people from approaching but if the newcomers disregard this and act determined to enter the clocktower and/or damage SCP-4XXX itself, then SCP-4XXX-03 will turn hostile and try and disable the newcomers. Depending on the size of the newcomers group nearby SCP-4XXX-03 instances will come to help. SCP-4XXX-03 instances go inert when outside of the "sleep song" range.

1 - 30 molar solution just means that it is a very corrosive substance. The higher the number the more acidic parts are in the chemical mixture. Also does anyone know if sulfuric acid bonds with salt water? I don't think it does but want to make sure.

2 - Exact size/shape of SCP-4XXX might change before official posting. As will be apparent, it's exact size/shape won't change it's anomalous effects. I was also thinking it could be some kind of crystal idol or something. Maybe a siren or something. Feedback will help narrow this down.
