Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:
Instances of SCP-XXXX are to be stored in individual non-adjacent standard anomalous item containment lockers at Site ██. SCP-XXXX is to be checked monthly for signs of wear or other damage. At no point should more than one instance of SCP-XXXX be stored in the same locker, stored in a locker adjacent to another instance of SCP-XXXX, or remove from secure storage at the same time.

Description:
SCP-XXXX refers to a series of series of finished garments, textiles, and sewing paraphernalia. Any suit, garment, article of clothing, or fashion accessory made in whole or in part with or from an instance of SCP-XXXX is itself an instance of SCP-XXXX. Further, prolonged physical contact between an instance of SCP-XXXX and any of the above categories of items may result in the anomalous properties being propagated to that item. Any physical contact with an active instance of SCP-XXXX may result in the same transmission of anomalous properties.

During a triggering event, a wearer, user, or holder of an instance SCP-XXXX will be compelled to attack those nearby, in the politest way possible. Afflicted individuals have been known to introduce themselves formally and apologize profusely. Stabbing, strangulation, and bludgeoning are the preferred methods of violence for those afflicted by SCP-XXXX, with minimal disruption to others present seeming to be the deciding factor.

Individual afflicted by SCP-XXXX will continue this behavior until their termination, or until the instances of SCP-XXXX are removed from their person. Given the inherent danger of coming into contact with an active instance of SCP-XXXX during a triggering event, termination is recommended for any afflicted individuals. Termination will cause the SCP-XXXX to return to a dormant state until the next triggering event.

The triggering event for SCP-XXXX is the simulated or attempted murder of another individual with no malintent present. This condition is most often met during stage plays and with the mentally ill. Due to this specific set of circumstances, SCP-XXXX instances often claim several lives over the course of years without being identified.

SCP-XXXX can be traced back to London asylums of the mid-19th century, with the first confirmed triggering event occurring during a celebratory tea party following a performance of Hamlet put on by the inmates. While mimicking the killing of Polonius, an act performed sans weapon during the play, the inmate who played Hamlet was able to obtain a poorly supervised knife. The inmate then proceeded to repeatedly stab the inmate who had portrayed Polonius, with his gleeful expression never leaving his face. He then dropped the knife and returned to the tea party, apologizing profusely for leaving a bloodied handprint on the tea kettle. Due to the peaceful demeanor maintained by the inmate, it was several minutes before the staff realized what had taken place.

The costume worn by the inmate was reused in later plays. Over the years it was eventually broken down and used to mend other costumes by other inmates. Some of these garments eventually made their way back into public circulation and it is unknown how many dormant instances of SCP-XXXX may be in existence currently.

Mobile Task Force Mu Eta, the Mad Hatters, are tasked with responding to potential occurrences of SCP-XXXX.
