Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Containment of all SCP-XXXX instances is currently impossible due to the vast spread of territory across the planet. SCP-XXXX instances are to be kept in a 3 by 2 by 3-meter containment chamber and any SCP-XXXX eggs are to be stored in incubators at a temperature ranging from 35 to 40 degrees Celsius until hatching. No surveillance devices have been proven successful in detecting SCP-XXXX.
No human beings are to get within 2 meters of any SCP-XXXX instances without previous authorization from level 4 personnel. Any human feeling symptoms of being infected with SCP-XXXX should immediately inform senior personnel to undergo surgical removal of SCP-XXXX.
All SCP-XXXX-01 individuals are to be locked up in an individual cell and fed appropriately. SCP-XXXX-01 subjects are to be psychologically tested on a daily basis. Should an SCP-XXXX-01 individual stop communication with facility personnel, reinforcements are to be immediately called in order to terminate the subject. If an SCP-XXXX-01 instance is unable to be terminated by foundation staff, the instance is to be contained in a cell specifically designed for counteracting its anomalous properties.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is the designation for a species of roundworm reaching up to 10mm in length. SCP-XXXX instances consist of one main internal organ; the function of which is currently unknown. Instances of SCP-XXXX are capable of survival for only five days unless they find a human host. SCP-XXXX instances will seek out the warmest spot in their immediate environment by squirming at a consistent rate of 4cm/minute. All instances are proven to be able to attach to angled surfaces below 130 degrees. SCP-XXXX is undetectable by any means excluding direct human eye contact.
Human activity within 2 meters of an SCP-XXXX instance will trigger an automatic response in SCP-XXXX, causing it to leap toward the subject's face at a velocity of approximately 12 meters per second. Upon contact with subject's face, the SCP-XXXX instance will attempt to maneuver into any nearby facial orifice. Upon entering an opening in the subject's face, SCP-XXXX will initiate a four-stage mutation process that has a 100% chance of infection. The four-stage process of infection lasts a maximum of four days, but variations have been noted for less severe cases of mutation.
During stage 1, subjects will experience extreme pain in the head resembling a migraine and will claim to feel extreme hunger and abdominal discomfort. Testing with SCP-XXXX-01 instances has revealed that, in this stage, no amount of caloric intake is able to satisfy this hunger.
During stage 2, mutations begin to become noticeable at a macroscopic level and subjects fall into a deep sleep state. While asleep, all prior wounds are healed through a yet to be understood process that does not appear to involve the normal healing response. However, only wounds that had been inflicted prior to entering this stage undergo the healing process. Foundation doctors believe that this effect may be due to the body treating new wounds as a trait rather than as damage. Once awoken from their sleep state, subjects indicate that they were conscious the entire time but were unable to respond to sensory stimuli.
During phase 3, subjects become completely motionless, apart from their jaw, and are unable to be affected by external force acted upon or have their skin, internal organs, or bone structure damaged in any way. Subjects are able to speak only in an unintelligible language throughout this phase but claim to have been speaking English during the entire period when interviewed afterwards.
Upon reaching phase 4, subjects will reacquire communication capabilities as well as all human functions lost during phases 2 and 3. However, subjects will begin to crave a caloric intake twice that of what the subject needed prior to being infected. Subjects may also acquire additional anomalous traits during this phase that are unique to each individual (See Test Log XXXX-A). Manifested anomalous traits may appear involuntarily, although some mutations have been found to be the result of subjects' expressed desires. It is hypothesized that mutations occur in order to acquire a defense mechanism to a fear the subject is exposed to (See Addendum XXXX-02).
Subjects in phase 4 do not appear to experience psychological changes unless deprived of the required calories. If a subject is left without proper caloric intake, it will lose cerebral functions until left with primitive survival skills and, in rare scenarios, a dominant personality trait. Subjects who have gone through phase 4 are herein referred to as SCP-XXXX-01 instances, provided that the existence of SCP-XXXX within the subject's body has been confirmed. SCP-XXXX instances will leave SCP-XXXX-01’s body through a hole located in the occipital bone which is produced twelve seconds succeeding SCP-XXXX-01's death. SCP-XXXX instances are typically voided in this manner in groups of 5. However, because more SCP-XXXX instances are typically observed to leave the body of SCP-XXXX-01 individuals than there are eggs present, research is currently being conducted on determining where new SCP-XXXX instances are originating from within the body.
