Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Either end of SCP-XXXX is to be contained in both courtyard A and C of Provisional Site-XXX. Between 0100 and 1000 local time, SCP-XXXX is to be under observation by no more than one facility member, as well as a daily playing of Christopher Cross' Sailing on vinyl at 1600. The latter procedure also soothes SCP-XXXX incase of emergency.

In the event of aggression (SCP-XXXX will begin rapidly moving back and forth when agitated), the available Linn Sondek LP12 turntable (connected to 12 remote speakers) is to be used to play Christopher Cross' 1979 song "Sailing" (the same record played to SCP-XXXX on a daily basis.) on maximum volume. This song will soothe SCP-XXXX until it is calm, in the event of further aggression, repeating the song until compliance is advised.

As of ██/██/████ admiration of SCP-XXXX is prohibited, only formal observation is enforced.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a rainbow located in ██████ National Park, ███████, Canada. Though having the natural appearance of a normal rainbow, SCP-XXXX is sentient and aware of its surroundings. SCP-XXXX has four states of appearance, varying in lethality and complexity. These states of appearance being:

  • First State (Natural): SCP-XXXX appears as a normal rainbow.
  • Second State (Inverted): Similar to State 1, yet colors of the rainbow seem to be inverted.
  • Third State (Negative): The rainbow appears to substitute natural hues for negative colors (black, white, grey).
  • Fourth State (Sunlight): SCP-XXXX appears as a beam of light, despite the area it is hitting to be not in direct visibility with the sun. The source of the light is still unknown.

In SCP-XXXX's First and Second State of appearence, the area in which SCP-XXXX "touches" is contaminated with opaque liquid of an unknown source, though the colors of the substance resemble those of the rainbow. The ground affected seems to return to its natural state after 3 days of SCP-XXXX's Natural State. Human contact with SCP-XXXX in this state is not advised, for human contact with SCP-XXXX during it's Inverted and Negative states inevitably result in death.

As of ██/██/████ it has been observed that any admiration towards SCP-XXXX results in SCP-XXXX moving even when eye contact is maintained. Though this movement is miniscule, there is no knowing how far it can and will move further on.

Addenum XXXX-1: Song Choice

"While on my observation shift, I played one of my favorite songs on our turntable we have set up on the observation deck. This song happened to be "Sailing" by Christopher Cross. Needless to say, the song was playing and I was watching SCP-XXXX, but then the record begun to repeat - most likely from repetitive playing - and SCP-XXXX started moving irregularly, knowing this was the result of it being agitated, I called Dr. ████████ to report what had been happening. While all this was happening, Sailing was still skipping back and forth, yet when it stopped skipping, SCP-XXXX mysteriously stopped moving before Dr. ████████ arrived. Confused and intrigued, I reported this information to Dr. ████████ - who suggested playing the song regularly when SCP-XXXX is agitated. So the next day, which was ██/██/████, at around 4 PM local time SCP-XXXX became agitated once more, I then started the song like instructed. This soothed SCP-XXXX once again, to my surprise."
