Item #: SCP-5161
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
Containment of SCP-5161 is maintained by storage in a vacuum sealed container in which the temperature never goes above 30 kelvin. Only Level 2 personnel are to have access to SCP-5161 and any exposure of the substance to personnel not wearing biohazard protective gear is to be quarantined and kept under observation.
Description:
SCP-5161 is a parasite with several anomalous properties once it is attached to a host.
On 23/11/201█ a object about 35 meters in diameter collided with the moons dark side about 28 kilometers from Lunar Area-32 with a velocity of 40m/s. Dr. R███ K██████ on Site ██ was at the time tasked with identifying and studying possible anomalies in earth orbit when he noticed the object at a distance of 20000 kilometers from earth and on collision course with the moon. Dr. R███ K██████ was confused by the low velocity which ruled out the possibility of it being a meteor and he could not identify where it came from or what it was made of. Lunar Area-32 Site Director Cyrus Hourdoon was notified of the object and assembled a team of researchers and security personnel to investigate the impact site.
25/11/201█: The team, consisting of 2 researcher and 2 security personnel and led by Junior Researcher Dillan Polsun, set out to investigate the object. Arriving at the location of the impact the team found a crater but no object. Instead they found that the crater was filled with a dark substance that remained fluid despite the extremely low temperatures. Polsun ordered his researchers to gather samples of the substance but under no circumstances get any of it on their suits. After some time they returned to Lunar Site-32.
Study of the substance showed it to be some exotic material that remains liquid at almost any temperatures (15 - 700 kelvin). Researchers at the site believe a chemical reaction at the time of the impact caused the object to go from a solid state to liquid, although they don't know exactly how it happened. The substance was also discovered to inhabit a parasitic carbon based lifeform, SCP-5161, about 2 micro meters long that at the temperatures of the impact site exist in a sort of hibernating state but at temperatures above 80 kelvin they can start moving around and will actively move towards living creatures that they sees as a suitable host. Carbon dating and bioanalysis showed that the substance and SCP-5161 were only 3 years old. Dillan Polsun is sure the parasites and substance somehow are from earth due to [DATA EXPUNGED].
Knowledge of the fact that these lifeforms only function within certain temperatures led Assistant Director of Containment Sylvester Tolen to authorize the assembly of a low temperature vacuum containment chamber in the west wing of the containment zone. The substance was then transported to this containment chamber before it had the chance to get heated up by the sun.
After containing the substance with the parasite a series of experiments were run to study its effects. See Experiment Log 5161.
SCP-5161 will enter through any body opening or wound and make its way to the brain stem through the blood circulatory system. Once at the brain stem it will attach itself and three anomalous effects will start taking place within 24 hours. First the host will start producing the dark substance found at the impact site in its stomach and proceed to vomit it out once it fills up. It's unknown how the substance is created, the human body is not believed to have the necessary elements to create the substance and no other body weight is lost when the substance is created. The substance seems to have a nutritional value as those affected do not have to eat or drink. Secondly the host will begin experiencing time differently sometimes seconds will feel like weeks or months. This will only occur when no one has contact with the host, for example a D-Class exposed to the parasite was left alone as a researcher went to get a cup of coffee and when he came back the D-class had grown a beard, had long hair, and had waited about 2 weeks according to him, the room also was filled waist high in the black substance. This has a devastating effect on the mental health of the hosts and most subjects exposed to SCP-5161 therefore never make it to the third stage. The third anomalous effect starts taking place about 6 months after SCP-5161 enters the body at which point the black substance will stop being produced and time will be perceived normally again for a short time before the subject suddenly dies and several parasites exit the body. The deceased subject will then rapidly decompose as time passes faster for the body.
Attempts to surgically remove SCP-5161 once it has attached to a host has had mixed results. Some will die instantly due to shock and others will become essentially brain dead. If you however intercept SCP-5161 before it reaches the brain stem and remove it the subject will be fine.
Analysis of the substance and SCP-5161 show it will not survive temperatures exceeding 700 kelvin meaning it wouldn't survive entry through the earths atmosphere and so far the substance has not been found anywhere else.
Addendum 5161-01: Transcript Excerpt of Interview with D-Class exposed to SCP-5161
Interviewed: Maggie ██████
Interviewer: Dillan Polsun
Foreword: A D-Class was exposed to SCP-5161 and left alone in a room. She was given the choice to do anything she liked, that could be done for a long period of time in a limited space. She chose painting and so was left for a week with buckets of paint and 20 canvases. When researchers entered the room after all the canvases and paint had been used and several paintings had been hung up on the walls, sadly some had been ruined by the dark substance.

Interviewer: Could you state your name please?
Person: It's Maggie sir, could you explain why the hell you left me here so long? You and Dr. ████ said a week at most.
Interviewer: Have you not enjoyed your time painting here? You seem to have created quite the collection.
Person: Yeah I like painting but this is too much… too long…
Interviewer: Do you know how long you've been here?
Person: Well it takes me about 70 hours to finish a painting and there are like 20 paintings here, you do the math.
Interviewer: Have you noticed anything weird about yourself during your time here?
Person: Ehm… other than the black stuff… I mean I haven't really eaten or had a drink now that I think about it. And now that you mention it I swear Dr. A███ and this other person who [DATA REDACTED].

Closing Statement: As expected time experienced by those affected by SCP-5161 is not a psychological issue, they actually experience time at a reduced speed.
