Reminder from Dr. <XXXX> to ALL STAFF:

Due to a recent rash of unauthorized logs on this procedure document, it seems a policy review is in order:

Containment procedures are to be accessed ONLY by associates with appropriate security credentials or who have applied for a "good cause" security waiver, subject to prior approval by the site director (me). Applicants for the SCP-<XXXX> observation rotation should speak directly with their site's HR department or follow this link for the online application: <XXXX>

If you are accessing this document without appropriate clearance or prior approval, your credentials will be logged and you will be contacted by your department compliance officer. Remember, unauthorized access of classified documents is punishable by formal reprimands up to and including termination, and could even result in an immediate amnestic response from your supervisors!

Dr. <XXXX>, Site <XXXX> Director

PROCEED

Item #: SCP-<XXXX>

Containment Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Each recovered instance of SCP-<XXXX> is to be housed in an individual cell located in Site-<XXXX>, also referred to in this document as "The Goodnight Inn." The floor of each cell is to measure approximately 300 square feet where construction restrictions permit, and should never measure less than 100 square feet. The walls of each cell are to be hardened with a core of reinforced concrete measuring no less than six inches at its thinnest point. The door of each cell is to be constructed of wood or other common construction material and hardened with a steel core. Each door is to be equipped with a standard Foundation personnel credentials scanner. Each cell will include one twin-sized bed with an unobserved space below it measuring at least three feet from edge to edge and six inches deep, a single observation camera feed with bed in view, and fifty-four electromagnetic sensors positioned around the room's interior.1 Other decor will be permitted at the discretion of the Site Director.

Site-<XXXX> currently houses instances of SCP-<XXXX> in two above-ground levels and six sublevels. As more instances are recovered, Site-<XXXX> is to be expanded below ground, with an addition of approximately 25 cells per floor where construction allows.

Each instance of SCP-<XXXX> is to be observed by a single Foundation staff member on a nightly basis for any changes in behavior or modes of interaction2. These staff members will be assigned to a 90-day observation rotation, with priority placement for staff that have recently finished a stressful assignment or experienced a traumatic anomalous event3, followed by staff with the highest security clearance. In the case of a staff shortage, this duty may be performed by D-Class personnel. All staff considered for the observation rotation must have received a satisfactory score from a Foundation or Foundation-approved psychological exam within the last 90 days and have no record of violent or antisocial behavior.

Description: SCP-<XXXX> is an entity or species of entity tentatively classified as an anomalous parasite. Its origin is unknown - although it exhibits potentially terrestrial biology, any attempt at concrete classification has proven inconclusive due to limited opportunities for study.

SCP-<XXXX> sustains itself by forming a parasitic bond with a single human host at a time. After it has bonded with its chosen host, it remains dormant until the host enters an REM sleep cycle in a constructed bed with an unobserved space below it. At this time, one to four proboscis- or tentacle-like appendages, measuring between three and six feet long and up to three inches in diameter where observable, emerge from the unobserved space and make light skin contact with the host, usually at the host's fingertips, toes, or cranium above the hairline. During contact hosts exhibit a sharp uptick in theta neural activity and rapid eye movement indicative of a mild hallucinogenic effect. When the host's REM state ends, SCP-<XXXX> retracts into the bed's unobserved space. It may occasionally make short contact in successive REM cycles, but observation suggests a single cycle of consistent contact nightly will sustain SCP-<XXXX> indefinitely.

If SCP-<XXXX> senses4 any unexpected movement in the room, it will retract its appendages immediately. SCP-<XXXX> will not emerge if its host is under direct observation, if there is an open passage to another room, or if the room is not sufficiently darkened. Occasionally, SCP-<XXXX> has shown to be "claustrophobic", not emerging in a space where its limbs may inadvertently make contact with any object other than its host. Since this observation is not universal, it has been theorized that some instances of SCP-<XXXX> are more guarded than others.
