Item #: SCP-4087
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: All subjects found to be infected by SCP-4087 are to be apprehended by the Maz Hatters and transported to the nearest quarantine facility for questioning and quarantine. All surfaces within 300 meters of the subject are to be thoughtfully examined for surviving SCP-4087 cells via infrared imaging. All found cells are to be exposed to intense UV lighting until all signs have faded. Non-human organisms found to carry SCP-4087 are to be terminated on sight. If multiple SCP-4087-A are outside of the original subject, the search radius is to be expanded to one kilometer. Contained instances of human SCP-4087-A are to be kept in a 7x7x7 meter cell with padded walls. If no human instances are available, the virus culture is to be kept alive via rat SCp-4087-A.
Description: SCP-4087 is a relatively large virus averaging 600 nano-meters in diameter. Like all cells, they create a small amount of waste heat, this is the only reliable way to find the virus. However, when exposed to intense UV light for approximately 15 seconds, they begin to glow fluorescent white.
Subjects infected with SCP-4087 will fall into a deep sleep lasting for 4-14 hours, from which they are unable to be roused, at which point they are identified as SCP-4087-A. Upon waking, instances of SCP-4087-A will search their surroundings for exactly 3 hours, attempting to touch all living vertebrates they encounter. Neurological scans suggest this period is actually an advanced form of sleepwalking, rather than true consciousness. All animals touched by SCP-4087-A during this period become SCP-4087-A. At the conclusion of the 3 hour period, SCP-4082-A will regain consciousness. If SCP-4087-A is capable of speech, they will begin describing a strange dream they had, which is largely consistent between all instances. [See addendum]. Partway through describing the dream the subject will openly weep and lament at how much they miss being in the world of the dream. At the conclusion of the description, they will find the nearest and least painful way to end their own life, and do so. If unable to kill them-self, subjects will stay awake in a state of unrest until they collapse from exhaustion and perish. Subjects incapable of speech immediately attempt suicide after awakening.
When exposed to a UV black-light, instances of SCP-4087-A glow fluorescent white, much like the individual cells. However, the effect of long term exposure are different depending on the stage of the SCP's growth. If exposed while the subject is asleep, the subject will die in their sleep, if exposed during the 3 hour reproduction period, instances of SCP-4087-A become violent, and will attempt to destroy the light source. However, their attacks are sluggish and weak, making them a minor threat at best. When exposed to UV light during the suicide phase, SCP-4087-a will appear extremely relieved, and express how beautiful they are when they glow. After a short while, they die. Non-human instances of SCP-4087-a will also be comforted by the light, and perish.
Interviewed: Interview of SCP-4087-A during final stage.
Interviewer: Dr. Butler
<Begin Log>
Dr. Butler: Good evening, this is Dr. Butler. How are you feeling today.
SCP-4087-A: I can hardly feel anymore. 29 years thinking that I knew what life was, how people lived, how they loved, how they died. I thought I knew beauty, doc. I was so blissfully ignorant. There's nothing as beautiful as him, or anything he showed me here in this world, so why even live in it.
Dr. Butler: You mentioned a "him", was this someone you met in your dream? Could you describe the dream to me, as well as you can remember it, please.
SCP-4087-A: I'm afraid I know it too well, I could spend years talking about it, if only being without it didn't hurt so bad.
Dr. Butler: The dream, please.
SCP-4087-A: Apologies. It was like I never fell asleep at all, I just was, and then he was there. When he showed up, I was so scared, how silly, I should've cherished it-Dr. Butler: Could you describe "him"? Detail please.
SCP-4087-A: Hes tall, extremely so. He is humanoid, but his dimensions are not like ours, his are perfect. He is very thin, but not gaunt, his legs and arms both go slightly longer than you'd think they should, but that's what makes it perfect. He is a deep beautiful black in color, that is, except for his chest and head. They glow bright, brighter than the sun, moon, and all the stars.
Dr. Butler: That should do, continue
SCP-4087-A:When he approached me, I was so scared, but after he pulled me through that light, and into his world, I knew it was okay. His world, there are no words. I'm sorry doc, there are no words for his world. It was like it was made of him. But of course, it wasn't as perfect as he was. Please doc, let me back. Let me die, doctor, please. I can't keep living knowing that he is on the other side. I did everything you asked, just give me a knife or something please doc.Dr. Butler: There's one more thing. Do you see the yellow padding on the far wall? Stand there. I'm going to activate a light now, tell me how you feel.
SCP-4087-A: Its him doc! Its him! How did you bring him here! This is better than death, better than anything. He came back for me, for all of us. Thank you.
<End Log, [optional time info]>Closing Statement: Subject perished mid recording. Subject's recollection of a man made of tar, and bright light align with other subjects, this creature shall be known as SCP-4087-1. [See addendum for details].
Addendum: Doctor's notes: SCP-4092-1 is often described as a tall, black figure with a bright glowing chest and head. The figure is known to be made of a thick, tar like substance, which has been described as darker than black. In the center of its chest and head area are bright white spotlights, descriptions of which are similar to the reaction the virus gives to intense UV radiation. It is unknown what the creature wants with the infected, or if it wants at all. When terminated with UV radiation, certain SCP-4092-A claim they see SCP-4092-1 again, however no further information can be gathered because of their short lifespan after exposure.
