Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a room of opaque, reflective surfaces at all times that is at least 3m x 3m x 3m. It is to be kept in a facility with low chance of containment breaches. The containment room must be suspended in the air by 4 steel cables and watched at all times. At least 2 people must keep constant watch of each side of the containment room for SCP-XXXX.

The personnel chosen to monitor SCP-XXXX must have experienced a recent (within the last 365 days) psychological trauma.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a humanoid figure with a varying height equal to that of its last victim. It has no facial or bodily features other than a basic human shape and has an opaque black smoke substance that forms its body in its natural state.

When uncontained, SCP-XXXX will seek and attach itself to a human host who has recently experienced trauma of a psychological nature, such as a death of a loved one, loss of a job or ending of a long-term relationship. It appears to choose subjects based on its own line of sight, though is difficult to determine due to its featureless face. SCP-XXXX walks directly at its target once chosen, ignoring all physical barriers, including steel reinforcement and mirrors and has been seen walking through air to a target that is above it. Once attached, SCP-XXXX is unable to be seen by any individual and all tests have shown it to appear to not hold any detectable form.

Subjects that have SCP-XXXX attached to them initially show no symptoms for approximately 7 days. After this initial incubation period, an infected subject begins showing symptoms of severe clinical depression, anxiety and stress. Subjects have been noted to begin distancing themselves from friends, family and colleagues and begin isolating themselves from social contact. Once fully isolated, the subject may have varying symptoms, changing from subject to subject. Emotional symptoms include feelings of apathy, hopelessness, guilt, loneliness and anger. Physical symptoms include severe loss or gaining of weight, fatigue, crying, loss of appetite and insomnia.

Subjects remain infected by SCP-XXXX until death or until they have been exposed to SCP-999, who when exposed to a known individual infected by SCP-XXXX appears to eject it from its human host, causing SCP-XXXX to retreat from the area and find a new host. 90% of subjects die from suicide and 9% die from starvation. 1% of subjects show extreme signs of anger and begin attacking others until killed, no form of sedation appears to affect the subject once in this state as well as subjects showing increased strength and speed. Tests show that artificially keeping a subject infected by SCP-XXXX alive through feeding tubes and restraints will cause them to have an increased risk of showing extreme agitation of this manner.

Once a subject has died while infected by SCP-XXXX, the body dissolves, emitting a shadowy black substance of the same composition as SCP-XXXX’s natural body. This process takes 3-5 days depending on the size of the subject and once complete the black substance will reform into SCP-XXXX’s natural state but with the same basic dimensions as its last victim. Once fully reformed, SCP-XXXX attempts to repeat the process of finding a new human host.

When no viable human host is within line of sight of SCP-XXXX it will travel at a walking speed in one direction until it finds a subject. The direction chosen appears to be random. The only exception is reflective surfaces, SCP-XXXX appears to become immobile if completely surrounded by reflective surfaces.

Additional Notes: In the event of a containment breach, any known infected subject is to be immediately captured and exposed to SCP-999. D-Class personnel are recommended to monitor SCP-XXXX’s containment room at all times, with video surveillance of personnel in the event of a containment breach for easy recovery.
