Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 and all similar media (Refer to Addendum XXXX-A) are to be stored in a standard Foundation lock box at Site-73. Any requests to study SCP-XXXX-1 must be approved by the lead researcher of SCP-XXXX (Currently Researcher Emmerson) and follow standard Foundation check-out procedures. There are currently six translations of SCP-XXXX-1 available for study. Should SCP-XXXX-2 be identified or located, Researcher Emmerson is to be immediately notified and an appropriate MTF scrambled to the location. Current MTF objective is not containment of SCP-XXXX, but observation and preservation.

Description: SCP-XXXX-1 is a small (145mm x 250mm) leather-bound journal of Roman origins, first retrieved by the Foundation on April 7th, 19██ from a small independent bookstore in Rome, Italy. SCP-XXXX-1 itself does not hold any anomalous properties, and on its own could be classed as Safe. However, the author of SCP-XXXX-1 (hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-2) has potential temporal-altering properties, understood through the contents of the journal.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX-2 become immediately apparent through research of SCP-XXXX-1. Through the use of carbon dating, the parchment that SCP-XXXX-1 is constructed of has been confirmed as coming from a time-period roughly around ██ BCE, which raises concerns over the author's accurate prediction of future events as far as 202█. The actual contents of the journal describe the ██ year long existence of SCP-XXXX-2 in what was known as the Roman Empire. SCP-XXXX-2 describes how they were supposedly "thrust backwards through time" to appear in what was apparently the early ages of the Roman Empire. SCP-XXXX-2 details how, through the use of its vast knowledge of history, it managed to not only gain the trust or favour of many significant political figures, but help propel the Roman Empire into what SCP-XXXX-2 called "its Golden Age". SCP-XXXX-2 claims responsibility for several military tactics commonly attributed to the Roman Army, as well as many social and technological advancements that arose during that period. It is believed that these influential advents in progression were what garnered trust and support for SCP-XXXX-2 in the political realm.
Whether or not SCP-XXXX-2 did in fact have as large of an influence as what they claim is still under debate, however the validity of their supposed transportation through time has been confirmed through the cross-checking of various historical events leading up until their disappearance from their own timeline.

What is known of SCP-XXXX-2 is minimal, possibly an intention of SCP-XXXX-2 to mask its identity, however through research of SCP-XXXX-1 some conclusions can be made.
Currently, SCP-XXXX-2 can be assumed to:

  • Be a male between the ages of 24-45
  • Be physically fit
  • Be of European origin, likely somewhere within the Mediterranean
  • Have a background in history studies and have extensive knowledge of history up until the year 202█.

As of yet, it is unknown who SCP-XXXX-2 is, when they were transported through time, or where they are currently. However due to the lack of many future events being predicted, it is predicted that SCP-XXXX-2 is currently alive, although possibly still infantile. Research into how and why SCP-XXXX-2 was sent backwards in time is underway, although not much progress is expected to be made before the incident occurs and as such, identifying SCP-XXXX-2 is top priority.

Lead Researcher Emmerson's Notes:
The possibility of SCP-XXXX-2 having such a huge impact on our timeline means we need to ensure that he can and will be sent through time. We can't afford to accidentally spook him while trying to find him or we risk not existing. I've had many people approach me and question why I care so much about being cautious when "if he already travelled back, then obviously we didn't interfere". I don't care. I've seen colleagues disintegrate due to temporal anomalies before and I won't see it happen again. Despite us not knowing when he is sent back, we know we have at least 1█ years before he is. During this time I encourage research into SCP-XXXX-1 to help pinpoint any identifiable information. After we know who and where he is, then we can start studying his method of transport.
