Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is currently contained in a standard Minimal-Security Humanoid Containment Cell at Site 19, though transferal to the Psychological Wing to aid in treatment of staff is pending approval from the Ethics Committee1.
Staff must complete a full psychological evaluation before interacting with or being stationed nearby SCP-XXXX's containment cell. Any staff exhibiting signs of stress, anxiety, or depression are to be immediately removed from their post and offered counseling with the on-site counselor, as well as any member of staff that SCP-XXXX takes a specific interest in. Staff are permitted to grant reasonable requests given by SCP-XXXX, though none have been given to date.

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a humanoid robot of unknown origins that is composed of a stainless steel structure with its inside consisting of upwards of 1000 gears and moving mechanical systems currently powered by unknown anomalous means. The cranial cavity of SCP-XXXX is a separate segment of the system composing of its own system of gears. These gears transition from precise circular gears to warped, deformed gears from one side of the head to the other. Despite the significant deformation of said gears, they remain functional and continue to turn consistently, albeit with a slight scraping sound. A small panel located on the underside of its left arm is believed to have once had the model and manufacturer engraved into it, but has since been forcibly scratched out beyond recognition. Investigation into possible GOIs involved with SCP-XXXX is ongoing. SCP-XXXX is completely capable of vocal communication with staff in a variety of languages and has so far been completely compliant with requests given by staff.

The primary anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when it is exposed to humans that are currently experiencing thoughts of worry or stress - most commonly associated anxiety2. When SCP-XXXX is exposed to a human that it knows to be experiencing these thoughts, it will cease its current activity and attempt to hold a conversation with them, steering the conversation towards the source of their worries. Despite initial shock related to the appearance of SCP-XXXX, the human subject will quickly become used to its presence and display no concern over the fact that it is a robot. SCP-XXXX doesn't immediately know whether or not a person is suffering from anxiety-related thoughts unless otherwise informed, but the subject will typically bring up their source of anxiety naturally within the first few minutes of conversation. As the conversation progresses, the human subject will progressively become less anxious in regards to the topic and begin to express very optimistic beliefs in regards to how they will be able to overcome the source of their worries. As this is taking place, SCP-XXXX becomes progressively more and more anxious regarding the subject's source of worry, eventually taking on the entirety of the subject's stress upon itself. This stress appears to be amplified beyond the original level of anxiety expressed by the subject and persists with SCP-XXXX indefinitely, with no known way of removing the negative thoughts from SCP-XXXX. Due to the robotic nature of SCP-XXXX, amnestics have no effect on relieving these symptoms, and as such SCP-XXXX is in a constant state of fear and anxiety, often making vocalizations similar to that of sobbing or heavy breathing3.

SCP-XXXX was discovered when sightings of a humanoid robot were reported in downtown ███████, Missouri. Nearby containment squads were deployed to recover SCP-XXXX and apply amnestics to the all witnesses. SCP-XXXX was discovered in a local community center where a support group for victims of sexual abuse was holding a meeting. SCP-XXXX was found in the corner of the now vacant room in the fetal position, sobbing to itself before being transported to the nearby Temporary Storage Site ██. Investigations into those in the support group present at the time of SCP-XXXX's discovery revealed that none had since returned to the support group, expressing a new outlook on life and a release of anxieties caused by their trauma.

The following interview was conducted by Researcher █████ █████████ upon initial containment of SCP-XXXX.

Subsequent testing with SCP-XXXX has revealed that it appears to be drawn towards people suffering from worried thoughts. This was first hypothesized due to it being found in a location with a high population of people suffering from anxiety and PTSD. It was later noted that while in containment, SCP-XXXX would sometimes follow particular staff members with its eyes, staring at them until they were out of sight. This behavior progressed as SCP-XXXX would cease any current activity and stand in the testing chamber then begin to follow said staff along the window, attempting to reach out the them with its hand. Once the staff member left eyesight, SCP-XXXX would return to its previous activity but refuse to engage in it again, instead it would sit down and sob. The only activity that would maintain SCP-XXXX's attention was if it was already speaking to a human subject that was suffering from a higher level of anxiety.

Addendum XXXX-1: After multiple tests and analysis of the inner components of SCP-XXXX, it was found that the degredation of gears within its cranial cavity had exasperated. Testing proved that after taking upon a subject's anxiety, the deformation would spread further along the gears in its head and already deformed gears were distorted to the point of near failure. Multiple gears began to jam and function at an increasingly poor level. Testing on SCP-XXXX has been suspended until a method of repair is found.

Addendum XXXX-2: Due to reports of nearby staff discussing a decrease in worried thoughts while stationed near SCP-XXXX's containment cell, testing begun to determine the area of effect of SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties. It was found that even when no interaction is had between SCP-XXXX and a human subject, the anxious thoughts of the subject "seep in" towards SCP-XXXX and the anomalous effects of interaction with SCP-XXXX occur despite the two subjects never coming in contact. This happens at a much slower rate than that of direct conversation, but still poses a significant risk to the structural integrity of SCP-XXXX.
