Subject's nose under SCP-XXXX's secondary effects

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Any instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be held in modified humanoid containment cells in Site-34. Instances are to be provided with plastic furniture and the air filters for each cell are to be replaced and incinerated weekly. All staff and security interacting with instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are required to wear standard grade hazmat suits to avoid contamination of said personnel. All contained instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be actively monitored in case of a instance of SCP-XXXX-1's primary effect triggers. Staff interacting with instances of SCP-XXXX are to give caution to each specific group of instances's trigger effect and accommodate around it so as to not trigger a primary effect event.

MTF Beta-112 ("Nose Plugs") are to be dispatched to any known location where a uncontained SCP-XXXX-1's primary effect has been triggered. All members are required to wear class C hazmat suits and be equipped with advanced hazardous material clean up tools. They are also required to have memorized all "Trigger groups" of SCP-XXXX so they can avoid preventable mistakes in containing instances of SCP-XXXX. They are to decontaminate the area and detain any subjects in the area to check for contamination of SCP-XXXX. If subject has not been contaminated, they are to be given Class C amnestics and removed from the area. If detained subjects are found to be contaminated by SCP-XXXX, they are to be transported to Site-452 for containment. If an extended period of time is required to fully decontaminate an area, a guise of an area maintenance or construction crew is to be established.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a species of an anomalous parasite that embeds itself in the upper ridges of the nose of humans. SCP-XXXX larvae are about 1 micrometer in length and infect subjects by penetrating any skin it comes into contact with and burrowing through the hosts body until it reaches the nose.1When the larva reaches the nose, it embeds itself inside the nasal system of the host, making the two inseparable in a matter of 20-30 minutes. Any subject that has been embedded in by SCP-XXXX will be considered a instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Once embedded, the SCP-XXXX instance will feed off small amounts of mucus from the nasal cavity, growing up to an average size of 2.2 centimeters. When it reaches this size, it is considered out of its larva stage and into its adult stage. Once an instance of SCP-XXXX has reached adulthood, the subjects nose will suffer SCP-XXXX's secondary effect of mild disfiguration and discoloration similar to the effects of rhinophyma2. If SCP-XXXX's primary effect is not triggered, SCP-XXXX will continue to live in the host's body until the host dies.

SCP-XXXX's primary effect is the spontaneous growth of the host's nose. When triggered, the parasite releases an anomalous chemical that forces it's host brain to transfer bone, skin, and muscle mass up to the nose, where it fuses to the nose rapidly. This causes the nose to rapidly grow to a range of up to 4 to 11 inches. Once it reaches this point, the nose becomes unstable, and eventually the nose will burst3, spraying the area with a substance that is a mix of the subject's blood, pus and mucus filled with larvae up to a range of 15 meters and a width of 8 meters, much more than should be possible for a human body. Due to the area the fluid covers, any unprotected individuals are in danger of contamination of SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX's primary effect is theorized to react to the group of scents the human brain identifies as separate. This theory is backed by data from tests and witness accounts of uncontained incidents. Through testing and analyzing of SCP-XXXX incidents, the research staff assigned to SCP-XXXX have compiled their data into the graph below.

Designation Trigger
SCP-XXXX-1A Reacts to the scent described as "sweet" such as many types of flora, perfumes, and objects containing sugar
SCP-XXXX-1B Reacts to the scent described as "minty" such as peppermint, camphor, and eucalyptus leaves
SCP-XXXX-1C Reacts to the scent of things described as "sour" such as most types of citrus an products derived from them
SCP-XXXX-1C Reacts to the scent of things described as "woody" or "resinous" such as the bark of trees and grass
SCP-XXXX-1D Reacts to the scents typically given off by the human body, such as body odor, flatulence, excrement, and urine
SCP-XXXX-1E Reacts to the scent of gunpowder, nitroglycerin, and other explosive substances
SCP-XXXX-1F Reacts to the scent given off by oil, gasoline, and diesel fuel
SCP-XXXX-1G Reacts to the scent of alcohol and other alcohol based products
SCP-XXXX-1H Reacts to the scent of decomposition and rot
SCP-XXXX-1I Reacts to the scent of bleach

The following will be descriptions of known SCP-XXXX incidents:
