Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-#### are to be contained within a rectangular plexiglass tank, 24cm in length x 20cm in width x 20cm in height, with 42.5% of the tank filled with moist dirt, the roof of the tank is to be connected to a sprinkler system that is connected to a large water tank installed with a timer set to go off every hour in order to keep the dirt inside of the tank moist. At the moment, the foundation contains ‘12’ instances of SCP-####.
Feeding will take place every two hours, consisting of 3 fresh bovine thyroid cartilages via a hatch on top of the tank “See Addendum-3”.
Personnel should only enter SCP-####’s chamber to feed SCP-####, refill the sprinkler systems water supply, or to repair the sprinkler systems
Description: SCP-#### is an unknown species of parasitic worm similar in appearance to Lumbricina (The common earthworm), approximately 8cm in length, 0.3cm in width and 0.3cm in height,. The Skin of SCP-#### is similar in color to that of a humans “Caucasian” with a slick rubbery texture. Two small nub like mandibles are located at the head of SCP-#### that excrete SCP-####-A ‘Left’ and SCP-####-B ‘Right’.
When encountered on safe terms, SCP-#### is relatively harmless. However the danger of SCP-#### is that it attempts to make its home inside the neck of a human, behind the thyroid cartilage (commonly known as the Adam’s apple). The specimen will search for a host that it finds suitable to be its home. Once a suitable host is found, it will wait until they are asleep. It will then proceed to crawl into the mouth and down the throat until it reaches the area where the thyroid cartilage is located, it will then proceed to dig through the flesh and muscle tissues to reach the cartilage and then take shelter behind it. Even though it breaches through the throat, vocal chords and the trachea appear undamaged. How exactly it’s able to perform this is currently unknown.
After awakening, the host will start to show various symptoms that indicates being effected with SCP-####, Symptoms include constant coughing, sore throat, coughing up blood, their voice changing in pitch and their thyroid cartilage shifting in shape and size. However what symptoms the infected shows and how long they occur is random. The host will also develop an large unexpected craving for milk, cheese or any type of sustenance that supports bone growth (even if the host is lactose intolerant or dislikes dairy products), it is theorized thatSCP-#### causes this craving to gain more nutrition from the hosts bones and cartilage.
The specimen also sees the thyroid cartilage as a source of food, as after approximately 2 hours, it will proceed to consume the cartilage by small amounts at a time. The nub like mandibles on the specimen will also then proceed to excrete what is designated as SCP-####-A and SCP-####-B. Both are mucus like substances that the specimen naturally produces for use when consuming nutrition, however the effects SCP-####-A and SCP-####-B differ from one another. SCP-####-A weakens bones cells making the bone or cartilage weaker and softer, this is to make the bone more sufficient for consumption. SCP-####-B instead causes rapid growth in bone cells which causes the bone or cartilage to be repaired, it is assumed that this is the cause for the thyroid cartilage to morph in shape and size. Why SCP-#### does this is unclear, but it’s assumed it does this so it never runs out of food but will only be done once SCP-#### is full.
SCP-#### will remain in the victim’s neck until either the victim dies or the specimen is surgically removed, once this happens SCP-#### will proceed to search for a new host.
The first instance of SCP-#### was discovered on █/██/2016 in ███████, Pennsylvania. A student of ██████ █████ █████████ ██ ██████████ named [DATA EXPUNGED] reported constantly coughing for weeks and feeling as if he had something in his throat, his parents have also noticed him recently consuming large amounts of milk and eggs despite normally disliking them. The student was then taken to the hospital after coughing up blood when riding home on the bus after school. He was then given both an ultrasound and x-ray scan which revealed something shaped like a worm located behind his thyroid cartilage, the doctors believed it to be some sort of parasite and planned on commencing a surgery to remove it. An undercover agent working as a sergeant caught word of this and requested to lead the operation. SCP-#### was successfully removed from the subject and then delivered to the Foundation. Afterwards more reports of SCP-#### infections have been reported in local hospitals and the Foundation made it a point to capture and contain all instances of SCP-#### that are reported.
Addendum 1: Due to SCP-#### showing similar behavioral traits to SCP-439, Dr. ███████ requested tests beconducted to determine a link between the two.
Addendum 2: During examinations, researchers have discovered several chemical compounds within SCP-####-A and SCP-####-B, including [DATA EXPUNGED].
Addendum 3: Testing has revealed that SCP-#### is capable of consuming other bones and cartilages, but appears to prefer the thyroid cartilage. Tests were also conducted to see if the specimen will only consume bone and cartilage from humans, Bone and cartilage from bovines have been confirmed to serve as a suitable substitute.
