Special Containment Procedures: Due to SCP-####'s immobile nature, Area-#### was built around The forest where SCP-#### is located to contain and study the object as well as to survey for any instances of an SCP-####-1 event. The site is to be surrounded by a steel barbed wire fence with signs indicating the area as a WildLife preserve to prevent civilians from trespassing and entering the forest. Watch towers are set up to survey any approaching civilians and to inform security personnel in order to inform the civilians to leave.
Personnel are not to enter Area-#### without proper protection from SCP-####’s properties and interaction with the object is permitted only for the purpose of research which must be approved by the on-site administrator and to initiate Procedure 362-Bliss.
During an SCP-####-1 event, the head researcher must be immediately informed and Procedure 362-Bliss is to be enacted immediately. If Procedure 362-Bliss is unable to commence due to setbacks then an emergency on-site Scranton Reality Anchor is to be activated within close proximity to SCP-#### until all necessities to perform Procedure 362-Bliss have been cleared and ready for initiation.
Description: SCP-#### is an eleven (11) meter tall large dead tree of unknown species located in a large clearing in the middle of a forest not far from the town of [DATA EXPUNGED] in rural Europe. Examination of the wood was unable to determine the species of the tree, but it has been confirmed that it is approximately 500 years old. SCP-#### is slightly brittle to the point that its bark can easily be removed without any external force as well as breaking apart with ease.
When an individual or group of individuals are within 2.5 kms of SCP-####, they will undergo numerous mental or physical ailments. Examples include hallucinations, hearing voices or unsettling noises, having disturbing nightmares, severe nose bleeds, projectile vomiting, coughing up blood, paranoia, insomnia, fevers, etc. These symptoms will continue as long as the individual is within SCP-####’s field of affect with the intensity of the symptoms increasing depending on the distance between the individual and SCP-####.
SCP-####’s properties appear to also have effects on other forms of life. Plant life affected by SCP-#### differ with trees and bushes showing signs of wilt, fungi and Moss suffering from rot, and grass and flora appearing dead and suffering from drought. Any animal life when brought near SCP-#### will show signs of fear or a sense of danger and will attempt to get as far from the object as possible, any attempts by an individual to get an animal to approach the object will result in the animal lashing out in hostility.
Periodically, SCP-#### will undergo an SCP-####-1 event. During and SCP-####-1 event, SCP-####’s field of effect will start to increase in both range and intensity and the object will begin to show signs of deterioration. When this occurs Procedure 362-Bliss is to be initiated to revert SCP-####’s field of effect to its previous level of intensity.
SCP-#### was discovered on September 29th, 20██. When reports of multiple citizens living in the town of [DATA EXPUNGED] suddenly began to suffer physical and mental illnesses with no signs of recovery despite receiving medical treatment, the foundation wasn’t concerned until 3 days later when reports came in of the infected citizen’s conditions getting worse. MTF Epsilon-6 was sent to the town under the guise of quarantine officers to investigate the cause of the infection. After numerous of infected citizens living closer to the forest who claimed of being in the worse conditions as well as members of the MTF start to undergo the symptoms faster when near the forest, it was believed that the forest was where the source was located. The object was found and designated SCP-#### and Area-#### was built to contain it.
Addendum-####-1: One month after SCP-#### was contained, █████ The Mayor of [DATA EXPUNGED] approached the site and wished to have a private meeting with the head of the site (still under the assumption that Area-#### was a Wildlife Preserve) about what is within the forest. Security team informed the on-site administrator and decided to send an on-site researcher to attend the meeting due to the possibility of mayor █████ possessing information on SCP-####.
Interview ####-1: Interview between The Mayor of [DATA EXPUNGED] and Dr. Howard.
Interviewed: █████, Male 56 years of age, Current Mayor of the town of [DATA EXPUNGED]
Interviewer: Dr. Howard
Foreword: Interview is conducted as part of means to gain possible background information on the history of SCP-#### prior to Foundation custody.

█████: Are you the head C.O of that Wildlife Preserve?
Dr. Howard: No sir I am not. He wasn’t able to attend due to a tight schedule, so I’ll be taking over for him.█████: [sighs] Very well then. I understand.
Dr. Howard: Now then to the matter at hand, I’m assumed you requested this meeting for a reason?
█████: Yeah. I’ve had some suspicions about something in the forest ever since the pandemic. Now I wanted to make sure I wasn’t jumping to conclusions due to paranoia, but if I’m not [pauses] then I need to let you in on something that you should know…Something very important.
Dr. Howard: I see, Well then tell me. [produces photo of SCP-####] Does it have anything to do with this tree?
█████: [Stares at the photo for 12 seconds showing visible signs of nervousness] Yes.
Dr. Howard: Well then, what can you tell me about it?
█████: Well for one it’s not just some tree…It's a cage.
Dr. Howard: A cage? What do you mean?
█████: I mean it’s a cage, a prison to keep what’s inside from getting out!
Dr. Howard: And what is inside this cage?
█████: [visibly tenses for a brief moment]…Something horrible.
Dr. Howard: Care to elaborate?
█████: It’s not something we easily like to talk about, for some of us at least. There are those who believe it to be nothing more than a legend, nothing but myth and superstition [pauses] but I no better.
Dr. Howard: Well then, care to share it with me?
█████: [Sighs then proceeds to rub his face for three seconds before continuing]…Very well then. But I’ll let you know it’s a bit long so it’ll take a while.
Dr. Howard: I can work with that.
█████: It was many years ago, around the time our town was young and new. It was a peaceful time when everyone can go through their daily lives and help one another……Until He showed up.
Dr. Howard: And who is He?
█████: It looked like a man, except it wasn’t a man, more like the incarnation of nightmares itself! Darkness for skin, rot and decay for hair, and hatred and sadism for eyes. Everywhere it walked it spread terror and death, even the very air around it warped and sizzled. All who approached it suffered great illnesses of not only the body but also of the mind, many either died from disease or were driven mad. All greenery around it died and burst into flames, even the most vicious of animals tremble before its presence. Its shadow leaked out horrors that can haunt your very soul…possibly even steal it. It was able to wake the dead by merely passing their graves. But the worst part about it was its name, a name so horrific, so vile, so otherworldly that just the mere mention of it completely destroys one humanity! So we gave it a name of our own……Ahriman.
Dr. Howard: So this Ahriman is what’s inside the tree?
█████: Yes, exactly.
Dr. Howard: So then how did it end up in SCP-####?
█████: In what?
Dr. Howard: The tree.
Dr. Howard: Oh. Well you see, it tormented our home for its own amusement for so long. We tried to fight against it and/or possibly kill it, but nothing we tried worked, everything we threw at it just passed right through it like it was nothing but smoke. We feared that it was hopeless and that the end was upon us [pauses] but then we were saved.
Dr. Howard: By what?
█████: No one knows. One day while the demon was continuing its chaos, it suddenly stopped and turned around almost as if something caught its attention and head towards the forest. Not long after there was a loud horrific cry and a bright beam of light from the middle of the forest, then suddenly all of the horrors the demon unleashed on us either faded from existence or returned to normal. When some of the survivors went into the forest they found a dark tree in the middle of where the light emerged, the only other thing there was a small note with a message, though cryptic it explained what just happened [pauses] Ahriman was sealed in the tree, never to terrorise us again…Or so we thought.
Dr. Howard: I see. [pauses] But how do you know this isn’t just a legend?
█████: Because my family has been leading this town for generations, one of my ancestors experienced it and wrote it all down in this journal [produces an old leather bound journal]. Also no one else in this town no this, but I have proof that it did happen.
Dr. Howard: And what would that be?
█████: [Opens the book to a section with a small scrap of paper place in between two pages] [shows him the paper scrap] This is the very same note that was left by the tree that very day.
Dr. Howard: [looks over the note] Hm. I see. So if the tree is the cause of the sickness, why is that?
█████: [tenses] I have a feeling…it’s either because it’s getting weaker and Ahriman’s horror is leaking out of it, or Ahriman itself is getting stronger and the tree can no longer contain its power. I’m not sure which possibility is the correct one, but if what I said is true…then the demon will one day break free.
Dr. Howard: And what will happen when it does?
█████:……..Then the world will drown in a nightmare.

Closing Statement: The nature of SCP-#### and the information received by █████ leads to the hypothesis that the object is withholding an unknown extra-dimensional entity or level-5 reality bender. If this information is accurate, then the entity breaking free will lead to an XK class end-of-the-world scenario.
