Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a safe class containment locker. Access to SCP-XXXX requires permission from Doctor Smew, or any personnel of level 4 or higher. The constituent parts of SCP-XXXX are to be kept in an additional, more manoeuvrable container or box. The container of SCP-XXXX is to be handled remotely to prevent accidental triggering of its anomalous effect. At least four guards must be present during experimentation.
As of 30/09/2013, no further experiments are to take place involving SCP-XXXX without direct permission from Doctor Smew or at least two members of the Ethics Committee. Any experiments must be overseen by at least one representative from the Ethics Committee. This representative has the authority to discontinue experimentation through termination of SCP-XXXX-1, and may overrule any other attending personnel with regards to this decision.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a collection of Dungeons and Dragons game pieces consisting of one DM screen, a collection of thirty-five dice, a Fifth Edition Player’s Handbook, a Fifth Edition Core Rulebook and one hundred and twenty-four blank character sheets.
When a game of Dungeons and Dragons is played using SCP-XXXX, the player at the DM screen will become an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Other players will become instances of SCP-XXXX-2 Subjects will then demonstrate an inability or unwillingness to stop playing the game. SCP-XXXX-1 instances will be able to manage the game without any prior preparation. During roleplay, instances of SCP-XXXX-2 will entirely take on the persona of their in-game character. Instances will not address individuals outside of their roleplay and cannot be interacted with. Any attempt to remove an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 or -2 during a game is to be discouraged following incident XXXX-A.
Any injuries sustained by a player's in-game avatar will be reflected on the subject. Similarly, any assets they acquire will cause a similar object to manifest itself in the player's possession. To date, no anomalous items have been created, despite the high fantasy setting of the roleplay.
Roleplay using SCP-XXXX can become violent. SCP-XXXX-1 instances have been known to show sadistic tendencies towards other subjects and have, on occasion, caused in the deaths of SCP-XXXX-2 instances (see experiment logs).
Following the conclusion of roleplay, instances of SCP-XXXX-2 will resume their standard identity but will be entirely amnesiac of the preceding anomalous activity.
Test Log
Test log 01- 15/07/2013
Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel with prior experience playing Dungeons and Dragons.
D-24594 (SCP-XXXX-1)
D-35498 (Rogue)
D-10967 (Cleric)
D-45985 (Warrior)
D-40105 (Paladin)
D-09986 (Ranger)
Setting: The village of “Chillbrook”
Test Duration: 90 minutes
Description: D-Class were instructed to play a game of Dungeons and Dragons using SCP-XXXX. D-24594 took on the role of SCP-XXXX-1.
The roleplay consisted of the characters being tasked with finding the mayor's daughter. Subjects proceeded to interact with other residents of the town, including a bartender, an apothecary and a blacksmith. Eventually, the subjects uncovered a slave dealing ring in the town’s black market. SCP-XXXX-1 then called an end to the game, claiming “That’s all I have planned for tonight”. The SCP-XXXX-2 instances expressed disappointment, before resuming their normal identities.
Additional observations: D-40105’s in-game avatar acquired a magic sword from the blacksmith during the game. This resulted in D-40105 acquiring a small pen knife, which appeared in their pocket. It is unclear how the pen knife was created.
D-35498’s in-game avatar was described as being severely bruised during a tavern brawl. D-35498 suffered a pattern of bruising on their body similar to that which SCP-XXXX-1 described. Bruising appeared at the instant when SCP-XXXX-1 described the D-35498’s character being struck.
Subjects claimed to have no memory of what they had been doing for the duration of the anomalous activity.
Notes
It seems like we have the general idea down. We have an anomaly that causes whatever happens in the game to be reflected in real life. This is nothing we haven’t seen before. – Doctor Sylvan
Test Log 02 - 16/07/2013
Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel with no prior experience playing Dungeons and Dragons
D-52676 (Scp-XXXX-1)
D-68946 (Warrior)
D-36090 (Wizard)
D-97579 (Warrior)
D-30587 (Monk)
D-77564 (Warrior)
Setting: The ruined castle of “Windshear”
Duration: 185 minutes
Description: D-Class were instructed to play a game of Dungeons and Dragons using SCP-XXXX. D-52676 became an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. The other D-Class Personnel participated, despite D-36090 protesting that they weren’t aware of the rules. After becoming instances of SCP-XXXX-2, this did not affect their ability to participate in the game.
Subjects were tasked with killing all the kobolds inhabiting the castle. They achieved this over the course of the game, sustaining several injuries. Injuries included a stab wound to the leg inflicted by a knife, a broken cheekbone from a maul, and various minor abrasions, cuts and bruises. Inflictions were experienced by subjects as soon as the injuries were described in the game by SCP-XXXX-1. Affected instances of SCP-XXXX-2 did not show any signs of pain until the experiment concluded.
After the mission was completed, the in-game characters found a small chest full of gold pieces. The game and all anomalous effects ended when SCP-XXXX-1 stated “That’s all I have planned for tonight”.
Additional Observations: Personnel were treated for injuries. D-775674, who sustained the stab wound, was treated for an infection closely resembling tetanus.
None of the Subjects were able to explain the rules of Dungeons and Dragons following cessation of anomalous activity. D-36090 declared “We already told you, we don’t know the rules”.
The bank accounts of each previous SCP-XXXX-2 instance, which had been seized by the Foundation prior to their internment, were found to have each had an amount equivalent to 500 US dollars transferred into them following the experiment. The transfer was made from an account named “Thedungeonmaster”. Further investigation is pending.
Notes
It seems that SCP-XXXX doesn’t require players to know the rules in order to participate. I hypothesise that SCP-XXXX-1 and 2 may not even the same people as the D-Class. Something else is taking over their bodies for the duration of the effect. – Doctor Sylvan
Test Log 03 - 31/07/2013
Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel
D-24594 (SCP-XXXX-1)
D-35498 (Rogue)
D-10967 (Warrior)
D-45985 (Warrior)
D-40105 (Warrior)
D-09986 (Ranger)
Setting: The city of “Erebor”
Duration: 145 minutes
Description: Subjects were instructed to interact with the game as during previous experiments. Anomalous activity began as expected.
The Subjects adopted the characters of Bilbo Baggins (D-35498), Thorin Oakenshield (D-10967), Fili (D-45985), Kili (D-40105) and Bard (D-09986) from the book “The Hobbit”. The game followed the subjects sneaking into the chamber of the dragon, Smaug, and luring him out, whereupon events approximately followed those observed in the books (Smaug leaves the city and is shot down by Bard. The player characters take over Smaug’s hoard of gold). Notably, this does not directly follow the events of the book, since Bard is not supposed to accompany the dwarves into Erebor. SCP-XXXX-1 stated “That’s all I have planned for tonight”, and all anomalous activity ceased.
Additional Observations: each instance of SCP-XXXX-2 received a transfer of twelve billion US dollars to their bank accounts. Respective banks did not notice the unusual activity and were unable to inform the authorities about the large transfer. All funds were transferred to the Finance Department.
Notes
We can use this. Imagine if we can work out how to do this consistently. We may end up working on a Thaumiel right here. - Doctor Sylvan
Doubtful. If you feel that this anomaly is Thaumiel, then we are going to need an extensive bank of evidence before we present the idea. – Doctor Smew
Test Log 04-01/08/2013
Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel
D-47286 (SCP-XXXX-1)
D-37936 (Bard)
D-95825 (Bard)
D-66016 (Bard)
D-57396 (Bard)
D-09089 (Bard)
Setting: “Roseview Manor”
Duration: 60 minutes
Description: The roleplay consisted of the SCP-XXXX-2 individuals being imprisoned and tortured by “Baron Rosewood the Nefarious”. D-37936’s character was tortured with a red hot poker and suffered second to third degree burns across 60% of his body, including eyes, tongue and genitals. D-37936 had her character’s arm slowly fed into a rotating blade described by SCP-XXXX-1 as being “like a blender”. This resulted in pieces of her arm becoming detached in incremental slices. D-66016 was “broken on the wheel” and had his knees and elbows, snapped, bent backwards, and tied together. D-57396 had a “spell” applied to her which caused her character to “feel like [her] stomach was aflame”. D-09089 was not mentioned by SCP-XXXX-1 for the entire duration of the anomalous activity and was consequently unharmed.
The game involved little input from the SCP-XXXX-2 instances, with most of their time being spent on character creation. Despite this, they expressed that they were enjoying the game before SCP-XXXX-1 concluded by declaring “That’s all I have planned for tonight”.
Additional Observations: The “spell” performed on D-57396 persisted following the conclusion of the game and manifested as severe caustic burns applied to the outside of the affected individual’s stomach. All individuals were treated in the site infirmary.
Notes
That didn’t go as we’d hoped – Doctor Sylvan
You can say that again, Sylvan. We need to get Ethics Committee approval on this before further tests. I humbly recommend that we find a way of stopping anomalous activity once it is underway before we proceed with any further experiments of this type. - Doctor Smew
We can’t let this get in the way. Imaging how much the Foundation was able to achieve with the funding from test 03 alone. The concept of "the greater good" absolutely applies here. – Doctor Sylvan

Test Log 08 - 24/08/2013
Subjects: The six D-Class Personnel returning from experiment 03.
D-24594 (SCP-XXXX-1)
D-35498 (Rogue)
D-10967 (Warrior)
D-45985 (Warrior)
D-40105 (Warrior)
D-09986 (Ranger)
Setting: The City of Erebor
Duration: 15 minutes
Description: The players resumed their old characters and the game seemed at first to be a repeat of the activity observed in experiment 03. However, the game immediately ended when D-10967 failed a stealth check, waking Smaug and resulting in all the characters being immediately attacked by the dragon. All SCP-XXXX-2 instances simultaneously experienced spontaneous human combustion as SCP-XXXX-1 described them being “roasted alive by dragon fire “. SCP XXXX-1 declared “That’s all I have planned for tonight” and anomalous activity ceased.
Additional Observations:
The potential exists that we will get similar results when we use the same subjects. Or the anomaly could just be messing with us. I am starting to wonder if the anomaly is sentient. Request reclassification as Euclid. – Doctor Sylvan
Are you sure that the Ethics Committee cleared further experimentation with this anomaly, Sylvan? - Doctor Smew
Reclassification suspended pending further evidence of sentience. - Doctor Morrison

Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel
D-24594 (SCP-XXXX-1)
D-35498 (N/A)
D-10967 (N/A)
D-45985 (N/A)
D-40105 (N/A)
D-09986 (N/A)
Setting: N/A
Duration: N/A
Description: D-24594 took on the role of SCP-XXXX-1 and began to describe the setting of the game. D-24594 was then terminated. Anomalous activity ceased and SCP-XXXX was returned to its case without incident.
Additional Observations: Remaining D-Class Personnel had no memory of the anomalous activity and expressed frustration at the termination of D-24594. They were forcefully removed under threat of termination.
It appears that anomalous activity can be stopped by terminating instances of SCP-XXXX-1. We can use this if we ever need to stop a test for any reason. If a dangerous scenario comes up, we have a way of preventing undue risk. – Doctor Smew
I didn’t clear this experiment. Doctor Smew is to be reprimanded for performing this experiment without permission from the project lead. -Doctor Sylvan
Test Log 12 - 24/08/2013
Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel
D-52676 (Scp-XXXX-1)
D-68946 (Warrior)
D-36090 (Wizard)
D-97579 (Warrior)
D-30587 (Monk)
D-77564 (Warrior)
Setting: “The Flayed Tower”
Duration: 370 minutes
Description: SCP-XXXX-2 instances were tasked with killing a powerful magic user who lived at the top of “The Flayed Tower”. The tower was mostly populated with low level enemies and one SCP-XXXX-2 instance complained that he was feeling “starved of any challenge”. Of note, D-36090’s character acquired a “Wand of Flame” early on during the game. It was later discovered that D-36090 had acquired a material firearm from this interaction.
The magic user in the tower was revealed to be a “Mind Flayer”, and the group performed poorly against it in combat. It cast ”Charm Person” on D-36090’s character. It then ordered D-36090 to attack his party . The group left the wizard in the room with the Mind Flayer and exited the tower.
After SCP-XXXX-1 concluded with “That’s all I have planned for tonight”, D-36090 produced the handgun from their pocket and began firing at the other subjects. He was terminated by the guard, but only after two other D-Class personnel were killed and one was wounded.
Additional Observations: The handgun was deemed non-anomalous. Containment procedures were updated to require at least four guards to be present during testing.
Notes
It could be interpreted that SCP-XXXX is deliberately going out of its way to harm its subjects. Experiment 12 implies that it is also trying to cause danger to other site personnel. If this is the case, then SCP-XXXX may be sentient. Request reclassification to Euclid. ¬– Doctor Sylvan
Denied as current containment procedures are adequate for continued containment, assuming no interaction with the anomaly - Doctor Morrison

Test Log 14 - 02/09/2013
Date: 02/09/2013
Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel
D-52676 (Scp-XXXX-1)
D-30587 (Monk)
D-77564 (Warrior)
D-68983 (Sorcerer)
D-01765 (Warlock)
D-251794 (Druid)
Setting: “Site 83”
Duration:170 minutes
Description: [REDACTED] SCP-XXXX-1 described an “alchemist’s laboratory” named Site 83. D-68983’s character named himself “Doctor Sylvan”, D-017651 named her character “Doctor Smew”, D-251794 named his character “Doctor Alvin”, D-30587 named his character “OM Dash One Jason” and D-77564 named her character “OM Dash One Laura”. They were tasked with containing a dragon that has escaped into the laboratory. This was eventually achieved by luring it into an "Acid trap".
Of note, D-68983 appeared to act insular and paranoid for the duration of the game, showing deep mistrust of other players.
The remaining thirty minutes of the game involved D-68983 being pursued out of the site by the rest of his group. After D-68983 was pursued out of the laboratory, D-251794 declared that D-017651’s character had been “promoted”. SCP-XXXX-1 then declared “That’s all I have planned”, and anomalous activity ceased.
Additional Observations: No immediate effects were observed from D-017651’s character being “promoted”. All guards observing the test were moved to a different project at the request of Doctor Sylvan, who redacted the details of the test. Level 4 clearance or higher is required to access. Of note, SCP-XXXX-1 concluded with a different closing statement than usual.
Notes
This confirms everything. - Doctor Sylvan
I request access to experiment log 14. If the team is going to continue to work on this, we need to know what we are dealing with. ¬- Doctor Smew
Test Log 17 - 08/09/2013
Subjects: Five D-Class Personnel and Doctor Two-Five-One-Seven-Nine-Four
D-52676 (Scp-XXXX-1)
D-30587 (Monk)
D-77564 (Warrior)
D-68983 (Sorcerer)
D-01765 (Warlock)
Doctor Two-Five-One-Seven-Nine-Four (Druid)
Setting: An unnamed underground cave system
Duration: 205 minutes
Description: Subjects were presented with a cave system containing a number of standard Dungeons and Dragons enemies. Superficial injuries were received by all instances of SCP XXXX-2, with no fatalities. Enemies encountered included zombies, ratmen and slimes.
At the conclusion of the game, the players were presented with “The Deck of Many Things”, an item that provides randomised benefits and detriments to the player characters depending on what card they draw. After announcing that the players found the item, SCP-XXXX-1 procured a replica Deck of Many Things from her pocket and had all the players draw a card. All chose to comply.
D-68983 drew “Fool” – a card which caused their character to lose experience points. The subject was later diagnosed with severe GDD following the experiment and was reduced to the intellectual age of an eight-year-old. The subject did not experience symptoms of this condition beforehand.
D-30587 drew “The Void”. The subject immediately lost all motor control and it was later found that higher brain functions had ceased.
D-017651 drew “Gem” and fifty assorted gemstones appeared on the table in front of them. The gemstones varied in size, but were each valued at approximately one thousand US dollars
Doctor Two-Five-One-Seven-Nine-Four drew “Balance”. No additional effects were observed.
D-77564 drew “Key”, and their character obtained a magic staff. A rifle appeared on her lap, and was immediately confiscated by attending guards.
The game concluded as expected when SCP-XXXX-1 declared “That’s all I have planned for tonight”.
Additional Observations: Further study of the replica Deck of Many Things indicated no further anomalous activity.
Notes
The fate of D-68983 cannot be a coincidence considering his role in experiment 14. I suspect that SCP-XXXX is more insidious than we had previously anticipated. ¬- Doctor Sylvan
It is still unclear why Doctor Two-Five-One-Seven-Four chose to participate in the experiment considering the results we have been getting lately. It is even stranger that he chose to wear the orange jumpsuit of D-Class Personnel while doing so. We were, however, able to gain further monetary benefit from SCP-XXXX, which indicates that we are on the right track. – Doctor Sylvan
We need to discuss this further, Sylvan. His soul got sucked out for Christs’ sake. I have scheduled a meeting with the site’s Ethics Committee representative. You are invited to join. – Doctor Smew

Test Log 18 - 09/09/2013
Subjects: Six D-Class Personnel
D-52676 (Scp-XXXX-1)
D-77564 (Warrior)
D-68983 (Sorcerer)
D-01765 (Warlock)
D-47109 (Warrior)
D-29475 (Rogue)
Setting: “The Desert of Haren”
Duration: 7,285 minutes (exceeding five days)
Description: SCP-XXXX-1 began the game by describing that the players were hung upside down by their ankles from a post in the middle of the desert. SCP-XXXX-1 then remained silent for the remaining five days over which the experiment took place. SCP-XXXX-2 instances proceeded to describe how they would try to escape, but SCP-XXXX-1 did not respond to their suggestions. All conversation ceased after approximately fifty minutes. SCP-XXXX-1 did not require hydration nor other forms of sustenance during the experiment, but SCP-XXXX-2 instances began to show signs of heatstroke after three hours.
After twelve hours had passed, Doctor Smew gave permission for attending D-Class Personnel to provide SCP-XXXX-2 instances with water. When they did not attempt to drink the water provided, Doctor Smew gave permission for the administration of force-feeding techniques, but this did not ameliorate the symptoms of heatstroke, nor provide any form of hydration. Doctor Smew suggested that the guards terminate SCP-XXXX-1 in order to end the experiment but was overruled by Doctor Sylvan.
D-29475’s life signs ceased after 49 hours, and he was the first casualty of this activity. Cause of death was later determined to be dehydration. The last SCP-XXXX-2 instance (D-01765) perished after 73 hours. All instances were determined to have the same cause of death. After the approximate time of death of D-01765, SCP-XXXX-1 waited another 48 hours before concluding “That’s all I have planned for tonight” and anomalous activity ceased.
Additional Observations: SCP-XXXX allowed for external observers to interact with SCP-XXXX-2 instances on this occasion, which stands contrary to Incident XXXX-A.
We need to work on how we do these things. Funds or no funds, we don’t have an infinite supply of D-Class. I suggest that we find an alternative way of gaining the benefits of this anomaly without unnecessary expenditure of Foundation resources -Doctor Smew.
Perhaps we can make a deal with this thing – offer it D-Class and it rewards us in return. Further experiments pending. - Doctor Sylvan.
Addendum XXXX.1: Incident XXXX-
Incident XXXX-A
During experiment 07, an attending D-Class Personnel was ordered to forcibly remove an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 from the experiment. This was not a planned aspect of the experiment, and was carried out on the orders of Doctor Smew in an attempt to “rescue” an instance of SCP-XXXX-2. As the subject approached the relevant instance of SCP-XXXX-2, they became integrated seamlessly into the roleplay. SCP-XXXX-1 produced a ready-made character sheet and the subject appeared to become a sixth instance of SCP-XXXX-2. Neither SCP-XXXX-1 nor any of the SCP-XXXX-2 subjects noted the change, and acted as if the new participant had been present for the entire duration of the game. Future attempts to stop anomalous activity in this manner are to be discouraged.
AddendumXXXX.2: A note from the Ethics Committee
Doctor Sylvan,
It has come to our attention that your research team – or, more specifically, you – have requisitioned a large number of D-Class Personnel within the last two months. Of the fifty personnel you have appropriated, only twenty have returned in a condition suitable for further Foundation work. We have scrutinised the progress you have made with SCP-XXXX since you were appointed as lead researcher. We find the developments lacking.
We understand that this is your first appointment as lead researcher, and that you are going out of your way to impress. However, this does not validate the questionable practices that have taken place in your department recently. It is even more astounding that you have failed to inform the Ethics Committee of the high mortality rate associated with SCP-XXXX.
Due to multiple ethical violations and a casual disregard for Foundation policy, you will be demoted to Level 2 and reassigned to another project. Further details pending. Doctor Smew will take over as lead researcher on the SCP-XXXX project, where she will seek methods of utilising the benefits of SCP-XXXX with minimal loss of life.
You may, of course, appeal our decision. I advise against it. We have thrown you a bone here, Cal. I suggest you take it.
Doctor Alvin,
Foundation Ethics Committee
