*The following is transcribed from Captain Barnaby Philson’s report including audio and video clips.*
(At this time Billton L. was stationed on a ridge that overlooked the town as a spotter and Ammondus was stationed 5 kliks south in a Mark IX chopper acting as retrieval and emergency support. Ferdinand, Klbron, and Philson were 2 kliks south of the town preparing for approach.)
C: Callout all, Report status.
BE: BlueEyes. Set in position and standing by.
S: Swift. In position, quiet, and standing by.
B: Bon. Yer in view, stand’n by.
L: Levy. You’re in view, standing by.
C: Callouts received.
C: Bon and Levy, follow on my 5 & 7. BlueEyes, stay on high alert, and focus on target. Swift, engines cold and remain on standby.
(Audio during approach cut for brevity)

C: We are making our approach there doesn’t seem to be anything living still here. BlueEyes? Have you spotted any movement?
BE: Nothing but the wind so far.
C: Copy that. Moving in.”
B: Clear.

C: Clear here as well move up.
L: Clear.
B: Cl… I’ve got bodies. They look pretty messed up too.
(Video recording equipment confirms the presence of one canine, one unknown, and three human corpses.
When I entered the house Levie had his mounted flashlight pointed at….at.uh…a corpse. It was just a little kid with his throat bitten out. There were other bodies too, um, two adults, one male, one female, a large dog and one small animal that was no more than a pile of goo.
(Analysis of the recorded video shows the following wounds.)
Male (Adult): one gunshot to the skull.
Female (Adult): several gunshots to torso and multiple stab wounds, apparently self
inflicted.
Male (child): torn jugular.
Canine: Slight throat.
Unidentified: the body is that of a small animal however it has been torn and mutilated to be no more than a pile of flesh.
Bon, Levie, and I searched the premises for any sign of the anomaly or other anomalous events. Upon completion of the search we returned to sweeping the houses. Most of them were empty, approximately 40 percent of them contained corpses with similar wounds as the first. As we searched the town it became clear that whatever had happened here wasn’t the result of some murderous entity instead it looked like the people killed each other or themselves. The sweep continued until we reached the well in the center of the village. As soon as we entered the square Blue eyes radioed that he spotted movement.
BE: Movement! North East of your position.
C: Copy. can you tell what it is?
BE: Negative. Just a shadow but closing on your position. Approximate distance 70 meters.
C: Understood. Levie, bon, take cover.
B: Aye, sir.
L: Taking cover.
BE: I’ve got her. It looks like a young girl. 30 meters out.
BE: I’ve lost visual. She’s near that two story building at Bon’s 8 o’clock.
C: I see her, First story left most window.
Now that I could see her I ordered my men to cover me while I attempted to make contact. Bon and levie both came partially out of cover to train their guns on the girl. Who immediately left the window and appeared in the doorway motioning frantically towards Bon and making a shoo-ing motion. I tried to speak to her but she didn’t respond, just kept making motions that Bon should move.
C: Hello? My name is Captain Philson. What happened here?
(review of video feed shows the girl is not looking at the captain but off to his right.)
C: Lower your weapon. Lets see if that will encourage her.
(the girl begins talking however the audio equipment is unable to pick up her voice.)
C: Levie? Can you translate?
L: Just about. Her dialect isn’t one I'm familiar with. But I think she’s saying; go far, the well, it makes people evil.
C:Hmmm, sounds like we found what we’re looking for. Ask her what about the well is evil.
(levie translaties the question.)
L: The figure, is, down there, Leave, before it makes you bad.
C: Bon. see what’s in the well.
(Kilborn’s video feed shows him walk up to the well)
B: Oh. oh fuck. Jesus. It’s full of bodies.
C: Bodies?
B: Well, body-parts anyway.
I….I should have known that thing was memetic, but I ordered Bon down there anyway to clear out the well and try and retrieve the object. I guess he must have seen it by accident or maybe he was just too close but he just started yelling; “help! Help! I’m trapped, pull me out.” I began retracting his life line but it was too late by the time we pulled him up and out of the well he’d been crushed. His uniform was fine -not a mark on it- but we could tell just by holding him that his body had been completely crushed. Immediately retreated with Levie and the girl to a building approximately 90 yards away. After securing the premises and clearing away the bodies I sat down at a table with the girl for an “interview”.

Good, What can you tell me about what happened?

People would go to pray to their ancestors and then run away mad.
When did this all start? What happened before people went mad?
There was a seller, he told our elders that his statue would appease our ancestors and bless the town.
Statue? Is that what's in the well? Can you describe it?
It's about this big (the girl holds her hands approximately 20 cm apart), white with dark red stuff on its hands and face.
How does it affect people?
I don’t know, I only saw it when the elders bought it and I never went to the shrine.
What stopped you from visiting the shrine?
I saw people who went to pray and I heard what their ancestors did to them. I don’t > know who my ancestors are and I didn’t want them to be angry with me.
So how did it get in the well with the…um…other stuff?
An elder took the statue and threw it down there. I think she hoped the water would carry it away.
But it didn't.
No, and we thought it was over but when people went to gather water they would take a drink and then yell and scream and cut themselves up or attack anything that moved.
I see. How did you survive?
I..I hid in cellars and ate the food stored there. I didn't come out until I heard you searching through the buildings. I don’t want more people to anger their ancestors by looking at that thing.

I then contacted site-52 reported my findings and requested a robotics team. I ordered my squad to regroup in an open field outside the town, we -lei, myself, and Levie- gathered Bon’s body and some samples from the well and walked out of the town to wait for Blueyes, Swift, and the robotics team. I believe Levie had taken a shine to the little girl as while we waited he chatted with her and they tried to learn each other's respective languages in order to communicate better. Blueyes and swift arrived and shortly after so did robotics. The robotics team aka The Serial Killers” began setting up their equipment and I ordered my remaining squad members to return to base with the girl, the samples, and Bon for debriefing and to start the post op procedures.
I stayed behind to aid the “Serial Killers” in locating and identification of the anomalous object. The team used “Bundy” a class 4 bipedal drone equipped with a video scrubber and level 3 contaiment. The second phase of retrieval went smoothly once the scrubber was given a description of the object it was able to flag the object and prevent the operator from viewing it. There were no other casualties myself and the “Serial Killers” were able to place the object in portable containment and transport it back to Site-52 for processing.
