Item #: SCP - NUMBER_PENDING

Code Name: INFRARED (This is to be erased after the SCP gets its number)

Clearance Level: Restricted

Object Class: Euclid

Disruption Class: Dark (When Temperature is -1C°), Vlam (When Temperature is over 50C°)

Risk Class: Danger

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-Infrared is to be contained in a steel room of 10 square meters, room must not be less than half a meter in thickness, and must be connected to heating and cooling systems. Room temperature must always be kept under a minimum of – 10 Celsius. SCP – Infrared is to be monitored with infrared cameras. Room isn’t to be opened unless for testing purposes. Should any personnel need to enter the room for any reason, they are heavily advised to wear infrared goggles.

Description: SCP – INFRARED is a humanoid, of approximately 1.6 meters in height. SCP – INFRARED is normally invisible to the naked eye, but can be seen with infrared camera systems. Its internal temperature can reach numbers that normal organisms cannot, with a recorded range of -55C to 100C, which can anomalously change to perfectly match its surroundings.

SCP – INFRARED will become less active the lower it’s temperature is, while it will become highly aggressive if its internal temperature is high. It will enter a lethargic, dormant state if room temperature reaches under 0C°. It’s currently unknown if SCP-INFRARED has sentient capabilities.

Should SCP – INFRARED become hostile or break out of containment, personnel should use cryogenic weapons to lower SCP – INFRARED’s internal temperature to a minimum of -0C°.

Objects exposed to SCP – INFRARED will either flash freeze or instantly burn, depending on SCP – INFRARED’s internal body temperature, including items that are normally not able to be frozen or burnt with ease, such as liquid mercury or asbestos. Whether SCP-INFRARED has any control over this ability, it is still unknown.

Organic entities exposed to SCP – INFRARED will undergo heavy mutations and distortions of their bodies, which is heavily dependent on SCP – INFRARED’s current temperature.

Should an organism make contact with SCP – INFRARED while it’s internal temperature is below freezing, the organism will freeze instantaneously, and shatter immediately after.

If the internal temperature is above 50C, the organism’s cells will denature instantly, and melt on the spot. SCP – INFRARED will then proceed to [REDACTED] to form a new organism. SCP – INFRARED will then anomalously lower its temperature and [REDACTED], creating an instance of SCP–INFRARED-A.

Instances of SCP–INFRARED-A are not considered harmful, and only seem to be stable for at most 5 hours, as the organs that prevent rot do not seem to be present or functioning. However, it’s still not advisable to interact with these instances, as they have been shown to cause heavy physiological distress to most personnel.

As of [REDACTED], biological testing of SCP – INFRARED has been discontinued due to the ethics committee. See SCP-INFRARED Document F.

Note: All experiments were monitored with infrared cameras to follow SCP-INFRARED's movements and activities.

SCP-INFRARED Document A: Room temperature: -5C°

SCP-INFRARED was presented with various common household items, such as a piece paper, a porcelain cup, and a piece of fabric. All of these items were frozen. SCP-INFRARED showed no signs of aggression.

SCP-INFRARED Document B: Room temperature: -5C°

SCP-INFRARED was presented with a bowl of ice-cream, a pack of strawberries, cereal and nuts. All of these items were frozen. Further analysis showed the items were still edible. SCP-INFRARED showed no interest in the food items, suggesting that it won’t or can’t eat most normal human foods.

SCP-INFRARED Document C: Room temperature: 21C°

SCP – INFRARED was presented with a rhesus monkey. It did not seem to show any interest, and it was ignored. SCP-INFRARED showed no signs of aggression towards staff, and the monkey was recovered with no signs of injury.

SCP-INFRARED Document D: Room temperature: -40C°

SCP–INFRARED entered a state of dormancy, and seemed to rest in a manner similar to a fetal position. It was presented various objects, such as paper and glass, but showed no interest. Researcher Francis glove was flash-frozen in a manner similar to liquid nitrogen after he attempted to interact with SCP-INFRARED. Testing was halted.

SCP-INFRARED Document E: Room temperature: 50C°

SCP-INFRARED was presented with a small rat. It showed high signs of aggression, before melting it on the spot. Afterward, SCP-INFRARED [REDACTED], making an instance of SCP-INFARED-A. Room temperature was lowered to retrieve SCP-INFRARED-A instance. SCP-INFRARED-A seemed to function as a normal organism for two hours before complete rot.

SCP-INFRARED Document F: Room temperature: 50C°

SCP-INFRARED was presented with one Class D personnel. SCP-INFRARED showed extreme signs of aggression, followed by attempts to [REDACTED]. Personnel was afterward turned into an instance of SPC-INFRARED-A. Although room temperature was lowered to retrieve the instance, SCP-INFRARED still showed heavy signs of aggression towards staff and had to be subdued with cryogenic weapons. The instance of SCP-INFRARED-A was later euthanized.
