Penumbra W.A.V.E. thicc lore
Setting: A large purple gas giant orbits a rather ordinary white star. This planet has six moons of various sizes that all orbit it.
All of these moons differ in composition and environment but share one commonality: the presence of a mysterious iridescent crystalline material in the surfaces and atmospheres of each. Dubbed "moonstone", this material forms the backbone of society on the main moon, Mykaris.
Day/night on the moons is asynchronous due to the gas giant occasionally blocking the sun. During "nights" on any one moon, starlight refracts through the crystals on any of the other six that are visible, bathing the moon in bright, iridescent Moonlight.
Of the six moons, only 3 are known to support life. Mykaris is the most vibrant, followed by Palama, the largest, and Myacumma, the closest to the planet.
Travel between the moons is special. Spacecraft have not yet been developed on most of the moons, so travel is accomplished through Moon Gates: magical doorways located in hard to reach places on each moon. Travel through these is exhausting, and depends on the physical distance between the moons at the instant of travel.
Moons:
Mykaris is about Earth sized, with one ocean taking up about 40% of the surface. Most of the land is rocky desert or mountains, with very little forest.
Mykaris is populated by multicolored humans (mostly purple, silver, and light blue), who call themselves "Mykarians". They are ruled by a King (currently King Ekkaj, of the House of Bil) who lives in the Mykarian Citadel.
Mykarians have mastered the art of harnessing Moonlight. Their biochemistry and diets infuse their bodies with microscopic Moonstone crystals; and they are able to use powers of light and darkness, and in some rare cases even generate or control their own Moonlight, using Moonstone-infused weapons.
Mykarians harness this power in 3 major ways. The first is focused application of Moonlight; this form is called Penumbra. The second is the opposite, complete and total pulling away of all Moonlight in a vicinity, letting the force of the resulting darkness do the work. This is called Umbra. A third form exists in ancient writings; the usage of both of these concurrently, and in perfect harmony. Light and dark waveforms overlap precisely to create unimaginable power; this is called Antumbra. This form is exceedingly dangerous to even attempt, and none have succeeded in centuries.
Mykarians have an army, which mainly defends the cities and their surrounding lands from khyrongs, great beasts that roam the deserts. Think centaurs mixed with crocodiles.
Palama is the largest moon. It is largely covered in ice and ocean, with dense tundra on land. It is also volcanically active, with great mountain clusters surrounded by metallic minerals.
Palama was home to the Relamp, another humanoid species. Relamps were rather reptilian in nature, cold-blooded with scaled tentacles in addition to their arms. They learned to convert Moonlight into electricity, and used this knowledge to travel between Gates more easily.
Relamps used to travel between Palama and Mykaris in antiquity, but as of the Day of Storms none have since been found. Expeditions to Palama find only abandoned ruins of their temples and fortresses, though it is commonly suspected that a few remain in hiding on the uninhabited moons.
Little is known about Myacumma. Its inhabitants, a race known only as the All Moons Clan, discovered spaceflight and left the planet before it was consumed by a calamity. It is unknown whether this was caused by them, and will likely never be known, as all Gates to Myacumma have been destroyed.
Season 1 introduces the Mykarians, and takes place entirely on Mykaris. A rebellion arises against King Ekkaj and the House of Bil, as the King has not been seen in years, and acts through representatives from his citadel. The rebellion is found to be led by Leviting, a disgraced former general, whose bloodthirsty practices led to his banishment. Princess Ilafehs and her companions hold off the army, which flees after the defeat of Leviting by Kire, the captain of the guard.
Season 2 continues immediately after the routing of Leviting's group, and begins with the discovery of new Khyrong, who walk on two legs and are capable of rough speech. It is found that these have been artificially evolved via dark magic. A large wave of them descends upon the Mykarian Citadel, led by a possessed Leviting. Princess Ilafehs, along with Tbil and several other of the trainees, attempt to infiltrate them but are captured and rescued by General Asilenya. Leviting, several Ascended Khyrong, and his followers breach the citadel and are confronted by King Ekkaj himself. Ekkaj reveals himself to be half-Relamp and defeats them in battle. He attempts to question Leviting but he is dissolved by his possessor before he can reveal anything.
Season 3 opens with an extended flashback to the Day of Storms, as told by Ekkaj. He states that his father, Tbil, stayed on Mykaris with then-Queen Iridium until Ekkaj was born, at which point Tbil returned to Palama. Tbil attempted to assist the Relamp King in retrieving the fabled Sword of Storms, in preparation for an incoming invasion from an unknown species on the fourth moon, who had managed to create Gates of their own through unknown means. The Relamp were losing until Tbil sacrificed himself and used the Sword of Storms to wipe the entire world with a massive hurricane. In the present, Ekkaj learns he is infected with a terminal Relamp illness, which cannot be cured without rare herbs from Palama. Princess Ilafehs and her friends are dispatched to Palama to locate the herb, along with Asilenya, who has been sent to retrieve the sword.
Season 4 ended mid-season on a cliffhanger and is incomplete. The herbs fail to revive Ekkaj, and he bids Mykaris farewell and returns to Palama to undergo the traditional Relamp funeral rites, and return his energy to the planet, naming Ilafehs as the new ruler of Mykaris. An All Moons Clan artifact is discovered on Palama, giving further details of the calamity that befell them. Ekkaj realizes this is consistent with both the Day of Storms invaders, as well as the entities that possessed Leviting, and sends it to Mykaris. Ilafehs shares the information with the people, right as the false Gates appear on Mykaris. A large swarm of further-augmented Khyrong appear, as well as the Bringers of Calamity themselves. Asilenya is killed holding off the Bringers, while giving Ilafehs time to regroup and assemble the entire army in preparation for one last battle. The Chief Bringer admires their bravery, and offers Ilafehs the chance to settle the war with a trial by champion. As Ekkaj dies on Palama, Ilafehs is given the Sword of Storms retrieved by Asilenya, and manages to achieve Antumbra, as the entire world is flooded in light.
Ilafehs awakes in a room, looking out the window to purple clouds as far as the eye can see, and is informed by the attendant (a member of the All Moons Clan) that she is on the gas giant itself.
Season 1
"The scouts have returned from the Southern Wastes. There were far fewer of the great beasts there, and we still don't know why."
"Princess. What brings you to the training grounds?"
"I see. Kire, show the recruits to the Circle."
"Do not speak of what you do not know."
"I knew Leviting, before you children were even born. His
