WestVirginia SCP-5281 "Fahrenheit 5281"
rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-5281

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5281 is to be contained within a glass box measuring 3.28 feet x 3.28 feet x 3.28 feet when not in use. The room containing SCP-5281 is to be at a minimum size of 9.84 feet x 9.84 feet x 9.84 feet. At no point are any documents of any scientific category permitted within a 6.56 foot distance to the entity.

Description: SCP-5281 is a scientific journal approximately 5.9 inches by 11.3 inches in size and bound by a leather front and rear. Inside are 12 pages of notes, which change with every opening of the entity. Commonly, it has measurements and descriptions of events, all using the American imperial system of measurement.

The anomalous effects of SCP-5281 occur when a subject attempts to write using the International System of Units (Metric System). When the subject attempts to write any measurement using the Metric System in the entity results in the text disappearing and reappearing approximately four seconds later in the American imperial system of measurement. Further, any records or documentation regarding SCP-5281 are also affected, making it impossible to use the metric system around SCP-5281. The effects of SCP-5281 do not seem to extend to documentation not directly reference the entity.

Addendum: "It seems that even this reference sheet is affected. For ease of use, let's just use a unit that we can easily convert to metric. Sound good?" - Dr. Beall

Experiment Log 5281-A

Test Outcome Notes
D-Class subject was instructed to write '1 meter' in the journal The text disappeared and approximately 4 seconds later '3.28 feet' appeared. The journal seems incapable of maintaining any sort of metric text or measurement. Further testing is necessary. - Dr. Walker
D-Class subject was instructed to write '1 foot' in the journal The text remained and did not change It seems that data already in imperial units are not affected. - Dr. Beall
D-Class subject was instructed to write '10 degrees Celsius' in the journal The text disappeared and approximately 4 seconds later '50 degrees Fahrenheit' appeared. No notes left in this experiment.
D-Class subject was instructed to write '294 Degrees Kelvin' in the journal The journal [DATA EXPUNGED] before forcing itself shut. Alright, who had the idea of putting degrees with Kelvin? You know better! Dr. *illegible*
D-Class subject was instructed to write '294 Kelvin' in the journal The text disappeared and approximately 4 seconds later '69.54 degrees Fahrenheit' appeared. Alright, who had the idea of putting degrees with Kelvin? You know better! Dr. *illegible*
Senior Researcher was instructed to write '1 Meter' in the SCP-5281 reference sheet The text disappeared and approximately 4 seconds later '3.28 feet' appeared in small font. It seems the effects of SCP-5281 extend to reference sheets regarding it, but not on these experiment logs. Interesting. Dr. Beall
