Special Containment Procedures: The Hall of the Mysteries of the Faith is to be under constant Foundation video surveillance by two CCTV security cameras. Due to the nature and location of SCP-XXXX, long-term containment of SCP-XXXX has been deemed infeasible without joint collaboration between The Foundation and Vatican City. As of 12/13/15 five members of the Roman Catholic Church’s papal conclave¹ are authorized Level-4/XXXX access. Routine bi-monthly information exchanges are to be conducted between Site Director Voiello and Cardinal Williams on the 11th and 27th of each month until further notice.

MTF-Iota-40 “Holy Men” have established a precautionary site 1.5 kilometers from SCP-XXXX-1, designated hereafter as precautionary site-151. Ten MTF-Iota-40 agents are stationed at precautionary site-151 at any given time, two of which are to monitor SCP-XXXX-2 while maintaining at least 60 meters of distance between themselves and the anomaly. Any change in behavioral patterns noted in SCP-XXXX-2 entities are to be reported to Site Director Voiello.

In the event that native SCP-XXXX entities breach containment, MTF-Iota-40 agents stationed in Vatican City must mobilize to the Apolstolic palace immediately, equipped with SK-395 flamethrowers, incendiary munitions, and one copy of the Vulgate in its original Latin text.

Access to exclusion zone XXXX is limited exclusively for testing and exploration purposes, unless directly authorized otherwise by Site Director Voiello.

Description: SCP-XXXX designates a self-contained extradimensional enclave that is accessed through the Apolstolic palace in Vatican City. More specifically, SCP-XXXX is accessed through making physical contact with the Resurrection mural² in the Borgia Apartments, and reciting the Gloria Latri prayer in Latin. Documents and texts recovered from SCP-XXXX indicate that the dimension was created in 1509 by an individual known as Pope Lucius IV³ and his papal conclave. See addendum for more details.

Geographically SCP-XXXX vaguely emulates early sixteenth century Italy, with heavy alterations in infrastructure and topography. Only two seemingly manmade structures have been observed within SCP-XXXX, resembling Catholic churches, hereafter designated SCP-XXXX-1, and SCP-XXXX-2.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a white church with a bell tower measuring 4m in height built atop the eastern most roof of the structure. SCP-XXXX-1 is constructed from non-anomalous timber and plywood, which has been painted white, although the paint is now chipping and in a state of deterioration. Periodically the sound of bells ringing will be heard throughout SCP-XXXX, which appears to originate from the bell tower above SCP-XXXX-1, despite no bell actually being present within the structure. This ringing is omnipresent and can be heard from anywhere within SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX-1 has mild mind-affecting properties that manifest when any subject of non-Catholic belief remains within the anomaly for more than three hours. Anomalous properties will first manifest as signs of mild anxiety and nausea. After four hours, subject will begin to feel remorseful, when questioned as to the nature of these feelings, subjects have invariably stated that they feel deep moral guilt. In most cases this is the extent of SCP-XXXX-1's mind-affecting properties, however, in one instance, a D-Class was sent into SCP-XXXX-1 for two days. After forty-nine hours, the D-Class committed suicide by means of self-exsanguination with a ritual knife kept at the alter of SCP-XXXX-1.

SCP-XXXX-1 is populated by 19 15 humanoid entities that identify themselves as the Parish of the Penitent Repugnance. These entities measure an average of 1.8m in height, and appear to levitate approximately 100cm off the ground by currently unknown means. SCP-XXXX-1 entities wear sambenito⁴ which appear to be organically fused to their collarbones, and corozas⁵ which testing has revealed to consist of entirely organic material. SCP-XXXX-1 entities posses four limbs resembling human arms, two of which are fused at the palm in Anjali Mudra. These entities are typically cooperative with Foundation personnel.

SCP-XXXX-2 resembles a sixteenth century Roman Catholic cathedral constructed from stone, iron, and obsidian. Vast black and gold stained glass murals cover the walls of SCP-XXXX-2, depicting various scenes of inquisition torture, crucifixion, and humanoid entities kneeling in prayer. Similarly to SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX-2 also displays mind-affecting properties. Any individual, regardless of religious denomination, will be overcome by hysteric reverence after remaining within SCP-XXXX-2 for more than an hour and twenty seven minutes. Symptoms of these effects have been observed as subject's carving crosses into their skin by any means available to them, uncontrollable sobbing and screaming while begging for forgiveness, and in four cases, praying until the subject expires due to dehydration.

SCP-XXXX-2 is populated by large, humanoid entities that have been observed to measure anywhere from 4.5m to 8m in height. These entities designate themselves as The Pious Brotherhood of his Holiness's Chosen Sons. The exact number of entities that occupy SCP-XXXX-2 is unknown, however, at least three-hundred-and-seventy-six individual entities have been observed. SCP-XXXX-2 entities are nude, muscular humanoids with pitch black pigmentation in their skin, and various heads belonging to the animalia kingdom. SCP-XXXX-2 entities have been observed with heads resembling Equus africanus asinus, Columbidae, Camelus dromedarius, and Equus ferus caballus⁶. The heads of SCP-XXXX-2 entities appear to be drenched in molten gold, but still retain function visually, verbally, and aurally.

The congregations of SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 are constantly feuding with one another. It is not uncommon to find the corpses of SCP-XXXX-2 entities nearby SCP-XXXX-1, although SCP-XXXX-1 entities are very rarely documented as having strayed more than 2km from SCP-XXXX-1. It would appear that SCP-XXXX-1 entities method of defense is cognitohazardous vocalization which solely effects SCP-XXXX-2 entities.

Special Containment Procedures: Long-term containment of SCP-XXXX has been deemed impossible. Containment efforts should be focused on redirecting SCP-XXXX manifestations into the Pacific Ocean, and cleanup efforts.

Foundation Volcanologist stationed at precautionary site-XXXX are to constantly monitor Mount ████ for signs of Volcanic activity, and create a daily-updated timeline predicting when SCP-XXXX may manifest. Upon manifestation, SCP-XXXX is to be intercepted in the Pacific Ocean by an agent of MTF-Eta-5 ("Jäeger Bombers") operating Mobile Operative Mechanical Construct-H03. Once SCP-XXXX has been neutralized, Mobile Operative Mechanical Construct-H03 is to be airlifted back to precautionary site-XXXX, and witnesses are to be amnestiszed.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a massive, gaseous entity composed of sulfur compounds, ash, broken rock, steam, seven unidentified elements, and tephra. Periodically, SCP-XXXX generates extra-spatial, extra-temporal wormholes within it's mass. These rifts are seemingly generated at random within SCP-XXXX as gravity is heavily condensed into multiple quantum singularities inside the entity's mass, resulting in localized distortions in spacetime.

Approximating SCP-XXXX's size has been exceptionally difficult and dangerous, partially due to it's non-solid state, however, Foundation researchers estimate that it is at least 240 kilometers in height. During one manifestation in 1948, SCP-XXXX enveloped the entire island of ████████, resulting in the island's spontaneous disappearance. (See recorded manifestations log XXXX for more details.)

SCP-XXXX manifests approximately once every seventy-five years, coinciding with volcanic activity on Mount ████ on the island of ███████, Japan. All attempts to impede activity on Mount ████ to date have failed.

A secondary engraving on the vase depicts the entity facing a small village, as smaller, humanoid entities run into the village from inside the entity's body.
circ. 600-800 CE	Several recovered Heian-period illustrated silk scrolls found in varying states of deterioration in Kyoto, Japan, depicting SCP-XXXX. Most notably, two scrolls recovered that depict Japan connected to mainland Asia, an SCP-XXXX manifestation, and then the formation of the Japanese archipelago. Historical accuracy of these scrolls pending further investigation.
circ. 1645	Journal belonging to Edo-period poet Nishiyama Sōin recovered from a Japanese history museum in Chikugo in which he describes SCP-XXXX. Sōin writes of an "enormous, monstrously shaped storm" passing over his home in Higo province and "ripping the countryside asunder" before passing into the East China Sea and disappearing. It is believed that Sōin was describing the aftermath of the SCP-XXXX manifestation in his poem our new normal.7
1803	First Foundation confirmed manifestation of SCP-XXXX. At approximately 1500 hours on 11/23/1803, Foundation agents and containment specialists stationed in Okinawa, Japan investigating reports of large, arachnid entities reported SCP-XXXX manifesting to Site-11. It passed by the island, into the East China Sea, and began progressing towards Taiwan. Containment Specialist Elijah Rostenberg details that the ocean appeared to boil where the entity passed by, and floated in large globules several hundred meters above ocean level, with native aquatic wildlife disfigured but animated inside swimming around. SCP-XXXX demanifests at approximately 2100 hours in the East China Sea.
1891	SCP-XXXX manifests at 0800 hours on 01/07/1887. MTF-Sigma-13 "Good Ole Boys" deployed to site of initial manifestation equipped with the latest artillery technology. Obusier de 120 mm C modèle 1890 has no effect on entity. SCP-XXXX passes through Foundation fleet as it travels into the Pacific ocean. Six Sigma-13 agents fused at the subatomic level as entity engulfs the fleet, three agents briefly transmuted into plasma-based life forms before expiring, the remaining task force disappeared after SCP-XXXX passed by the fleet. SCP-XXXX continued into the Pacific Ocean before demanifesting.
1948	SCP-XXXX manifests at 2400 hours on 07/24/1948. Three Mobile Task Forces are deployed to intercept the entity. Incendiary munitions, high-pressure hydraulic railguns, and artillery fire all have no effect on the entity. SCP-XXXX passes over the island of ████████, leaving nothing behind as it passes over the landmass but an open hole in the ocean, which quickly filled with water. Entity demanifests 15 minutes later. SCP-XXXX is classified.
2019	SCP-XXXX manifests at 0000 hours on 06/12/2019, and travels into mainland Japan. At 0200 hours, the entity enters Tokyo. At 1500 hours, SCP-XXXX is temporarily neutralized. Addendum-The Aiolos Project Proposal: After the ████████ island incident on 07/24/1948, Senior Researcher Mark Devore theorized that SCP-XXXX may be able to be contained by a powerful enough anti-vacuum. He proposed that if the Foundation could generate an intense enough gravitational singularity to cancel-out SCP-XXXX's effects, they may be able to temporarily neutralize the entity. Technological limitations at the time of Senior Researcher Devore's proposal made this impossible.
