Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be contained inside a 250ml conical flask. The flask should be placed inside of a small item containment cell inside of Area 12's Euclid department. A dehumidifier should be active at all times in immediate proximity to SCP-XXXX's cell.

SCP-XXXX Should be destroyed as soon as possible. Until such a scenario is possible, SCP-XXXX should be contained in an airtight, water-resistant steel master box measuring exactly 5m by 5m by 5m inside a steel, blastproof cell. The box should be completely filled with steel but must have enough room for a smaller airtight and water-resistant steel box measuring exactly 1m by 1m by 1m, which contains SCP-XXXX. An intensified gamma ray should be focussed on SCP XXXX at all times to prevent it growing out of control. If any breaches of the master box are visible, SCP-XXXX should be transported immediately into another flawless master box. The previously used master box should be incinerated with temperatures ranging above two-thousand (2000) degrees Celsius as quickly as possible to avoid the possible containment breach of SCP-XXXX.

If SCP-XXXX is detected in the air inside or outside the facility or if anyone is infested with SCP-XXXX, initiate Protocol XXXX immediately.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a recently discovered species of algae that is very similar to the look of everyday surface algae usually found in stagnant ponds or lakes. SCP-XXXX, however, is able to grow in any type of liquid at immense speeds, effectively doubling its size every ten minutes regardless of the liquids condition. SCP-XXXX cannot be broken apart or destroyed totally. The only slightly effective way of destroying SCP-XXXX is by blasting the entire area with intensified gamma rays, but this method has proved to be less effective each time it is performed. Any efforts of tearing or removing SCP-XXXX from the liquid in any other way will be counter-intuitive as tools and chemicals will be digested by SCP-XXXX rapidly, speeding up its growth significantly.

SCP-XXXX is able to survive on liquid droplets such as water vapor very effectively. Theoretically able to survive in clouds and most certainly would come down in rain droplets, transporting itself into new territory to grow in.

SCP-XXXX absorbs 99.9% of the light that comes into contact with it, making the area underneath SCP-XXXX devoid of light. This can be deadly to any marine plant life that relies on photosynthesis for its primary source of energy. When these plants die, the animals that feed off of them will soon die too, along with animals that eat those. If SCP-XXXX was to come into contact with a large body of water (such as the ocean) that houses life and isn't controlled as quickly as possible, an inevitable mass extinction event will soon follow after, with only plants and animals that don't rely on light energy possibly surviving. This may cause human communities and other animals that rely on fish or marine plant life as their primary diet to be forced to find another source of food or to die of starvation.

SCP-XXXX is also able to induce severe psychological and physical harm to animals and humans that possibly breath in liquid droplets containing SCP-XXXX. The effective digestion habits of SCP-XXXX makes it able to digest tissue from living organisms quickly. Devouring any organism from the inside out. Irrational behavior occurs as brain tissue is devoured by SCP-XXXX, making infested individuals obsessed with bathing themselves in large bodies of water to spread SCP-XXXX even further.
SCP-XXXX is able to survive the water treatment process that transports water from reservoirs and other water containing units to homes, commercial buildings, and industrial buildings. If SCP-XXXX is present in these systems, there will be an immense hazard to human life that uses these infested systems.

Addendum XXXX-01: SCP-XXXX was accidentally discovered by a deceased professional cave explorer by the name of ████ ███. He discovered SCP-XXXX deep inside the unexplored depths of ██████, England. He fell into the pool after his safety rope snapped. After emerging from the pool, he attempted to escape by calling for help. He was put through to a cave rescue organization locally and was told to stay put. Two (2) hours passed, the rescuers reached where ████ ███ was stationed via the same route that he took. They discovered him, as put from the captain of the rescue group, 'Lying in the green pool dead, with his flesh devoured from the monstrous green, algae-like thing that was just covering and hanging off him'. Rescuers called for backup, this was also when the SCP Foundation was contacted anonymously by an agent nearby and MTF unit Theta-4 was deployed. Theta-4 administered Class-A amnestics to the rescue team and its backup. A cover story was produced of a cave collapsing the area, making the caves too dangerous to traverse and were permanently closed down to explorers. The caves were sealed shut by Theta-4 and are currently heavily guarded by SCP personnel. A sample was taken for experimentation by the foundation.
