SCP-XXX
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in an airtight room. The walls must be made of a metal resistant to corrosion, and the door must have an airlock. Approximately once every 6 hours, one or more personnel are to enter the room and thoroughly clean SCP-XXX with sponges, soap, and lukewarm water. Any personnel entering the room must wear a hazmat suit and a gas mask.
In the event that SCP-XXX becomes damaged, all personnel are to evacuate the site. Personnel may return to the site at least 3 hours after the evacuation, and only when the air has been confirmed to be safe.
Description: SCP-XXX is a small, plastic figurine of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The object has small holes in the back of its mouth. SCP-XXX gathers dust and grime on its surface at an accelerated rate, no matter its containment conditions.
When SCP-XXX accumulates and maintains a visible amount of dust and grime for approximately an hour, it will begin to release a hazardous gas from the holes inside its mouth. This gas increases in deadliness the longer SCP-XXX remains uncleaned. The gas is not of notable danger at first, but will slowly become more toxic and hazardous. It smells of oil and rotten eggs, and is hard to see at first. The intensified effects of the gas on humans is not an effect of prolonged exposure, but rather the gas itself changing over time. At first, it will only cause shortness of breath in human subject.1 The effects will then increase to severe chest pain, coughing, and death. The gas also corrodes and deteriorates materials that is comes into contact with. If SCP-XXX is left unclean for a long enough time, the gas produced will be able to corrode through even the resistant metal used to contain it.
If any part of SCP-XXX becomes scratched or broken, the object will release an intensified version of its hazardous gas. As opposed to the slow intensification of the gas in other situations, this gas will be immediately capable of killing personnel and corroding resistant metals. This gas renders even the most advanced gas masks available to the Foundation ineffective. SCP-XXX displays the ability to slowly regenerate broken or missing plastic, and will cease producing the gas once it has done so.
Addendum: SCP-XXX was recovered from a suburban home in northern Colorado, USA. SCP-XXX was a gift for a child in the family. The object became dirty, and began producing the anomalous gas. The family brought the child to ER after she began suffering the effects of the gas. The house was brought to the Foundation's attention when it began deteriorating from the inside, and anyone who entered began coughing. Foundation employees removed SCP-XXX, and replaced it with a similar, non-anomalous toy.2 The family was told that there was a gas leak, and was given compensation by the Foundation.
