Item#: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Euclid

Containment procedures:

SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard humanoid containment cell with the normally associated furnishing. The observation room adjacent to SCP-XXXX's room is to be outfitted with a backlit, tinted window instead of a standard one way window. The observation room may not contain any digital recording devices and may only use a physical equivalent (I.e. paper/typewriter). The cell is to be evenly lit and contain two CRTV security cameras recording onto standard 12-hour length VHS tapes. These cameras may be activated or deactivated by staff as needed. No rooms/devices associated with SCP-XXXX are to possess password-based locking systems and must instead utilize a key or biometric based system.

Documentation regarding SCP-XXXX should be limited, and only created or reviewed for testing purposes or if deemed sufficiently necessary. All documentation or written information regarding SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a separate, secured room, designated as the “data chamber”. Only one member of staff may access the data chamber at a time and under no circumstance should any Foundation personnel bring anything relating to another contained specimen into the data chamber. While testing with SCP-XXXX is ongoing, access to the data chamber is prohibited without express permission from the head researchers assigned to SCP-XXXX. The data chamber must contain one analogue video camera with a live feed and have a low video resolution. One armed guard is to be positioned out front of the data chamber. Personnel may not remove any material regarding SCP-XXXX from the data chamber without an escort and express permission from the head researchers assigned to SCP-XXXX or a staff member of analogous authority. All documentation is to be recorded by hand or on typewriters to minimize the risk of document replication. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of head researchers, site directors. It is highly discouraged for staff to discuss SCP-XXXX during their free time and it is prohibited for staff to create any written account about or regarding SCP-XXXX outside of their regular work hours.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a 15-year-old male humanoid entity with brown hair and no distinguishable markings, weighing roughly 55kg and standing at approximately 170cm. It is noted that SCP-XXXX’s resistance to disease, memetic agents, and conventional pathogens is extremely high for his age and weight, however researchers have concluded that these resistances are not within the parameters to be considered anomalous. SCP-XXXX’s anatomy is indistinguishable from an analogous human, and its anomalous property only becomes apparent when an individual outside of SCP-XXXX’s immediate vicinity performs any of the following

• Talks about SCP-XXXX
• Writes about SCP-XXXX
• Reads about SCP-XXXX
• Observes SCP-XXXX through a photo, artistic representation, video feed, audio recording, one
way glass, etc.

For the sake of simplicity any individual who meets these criteria will be documented as an “Observer” and the performance of these actions will be described as "observation". When observation occurs, SCP-XXXX becomes instantly and totally aware of the observer and can perceive the immediate vicinity of the observer with heightened clarity and retention. individuals who become Observers report a feeling of unease, many stating that they feel as if they’re being watched. SCP-XXXX ceases its anomalous effect once the observer has fixed their attention onto a new stimulus. Even if the observer ceases to observe SCP-XXXX, the effect is still active until something else takes their attention. SCP-XXXX has proven capable of memorizing the layout of a fully furnished 10’x10’x10’ room with 92% accuracy that it observed for four seconds anomalously.

There is currently no known method for suppressing or negating SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effect, and although SCP-XXXX has shown a strong willingness to cooperate with The Foundation, it has proven to be incapable of suppressing its own anomalous effects. SCP-XXXX was discovered in the [REDACTED] Children’s Psychiatric Hospital in [REDACTED] Georgia, on April [REDACTED] [REDACTED]. SCP-XXXX came to the foundation’s attention after a failed attempt on SCP-XXXX’s life by a nurse with a scalpel. Interrogation logs obtained from local law enforcement state that the sixty-two-year-old nurse thought the child was “the Anti-Christ” due to his antisocial behavior and his inexplicable knowledge of confidential files, personal conversations, and passwords.

SCP-XXXX is emotionally stunted, having the emotional maturity of a twelve-year-old, likely due to emotional/social trauma. However, SCP-XXXX is deceptively intelligent, possessing an IQ of 125. Through repeated psychological assessments, on site psychologists have concluded that SCP-XXXX has acute anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and, according to onsite trauma councilor Megan [REDACTED] “low self-esteem”. While SCP-XXXX’s effect is active, it exhibits notably decreased awareness of its immediate surroundings. Additionally, SCP-XXXX expresses high levels of stress and anxiety when his anomalous effect is triggered by two or more observers simultaneously. Testing using multiple active observers has been terminated indefinitely, as when testing the use of four observers, SCP-XXXX succumbed to a violent seizure and lost consciousness for two hours. (note that only SCP-XXXX’s body was unconsciousness, and that the anomalous effect still occurs when SCP-XXXX is incapacitated). Consideration for using this phenomenon as a means of containment has been denied by both O-5 Council and the Ethics Committee.

“Aside from being a gross affront to ethics, the proposed containment method only incapacitates SCP-XXXX’s physical body, and in no way inhibits the actual anomaly. (For once), us on the ethics committee and the O-5 Council are in agreement that forcibly inducing violent seizures on SCP-XXXX is massively inappropriate”
-[REDACTED]

Testing:

Testing and research concerning SCP-XXXX is to be conducted by a small team of four research staff and three onsite psychologists, lead by Dr. Autumn or Dr. Winters. D-class may be assigned as needed but must be nonviolent and mentally stable, after testing they are to be administered amnestics to prevent them from triggering the anomaly later on. Both Dr. Autumn and Winters have requested that the SCP-XXXX staff be full time and only work on SCP-XXXX, as to avoid breaches of classified information.

While testing is in progress, all participating researchers and onsite psychiatrists must have their outline visible to SCP-XXX via tinted window or be present inside the testing area. The use of a live video feed or one-way glass is prohibited. However, staff are prohibited from taking notes during testing, since documentation still activates SCP-XXXX’s effect. All notes and documentation are to be individually written after the testing has concluded, and must be done within the data chamber, preferably in a brief time frame.

Due to the unorthodox nature of SCP-XXXX’s testing, the written results consist of notes, providing brief synopses of the query, structure and result of each test. As of [REDACTED] test results of SCP-XXXX are as follows:

XXXX-1-4

Question: Does SCP-XXXX require the sensory awareness of the Observer to establish perception?
Test structure: A single blind D-class is provided a list of facts and descriptions regarding SCP-XXXX (example: SCP-XXXX has brown hair). The D-class is placed in a secure room with randomly selected items, and a randomly selected song is played through a portable speaker. The D-class is instructed not to move and to recite the list of facts it was provided.

XXXX-1-7

Question: what is the effective range of SCP-XXXX? Does its accuracy decrease with distance?
Test structure: SCP-XXXX’s standard testing protocol (i.e. the single D-class, the secured room, etc.) is conducted consecutively in four locations of increasing distance, the farthest taking place at [REDACTED]

XXXX-1-8

Question: Why is it that SCP-XXXX can’t see the D-class in his visions, but can see the research staff assigned to it?
Test Structure: Dr. Winters suggests that the discrepancy exists because SCP-XXXX hasn’t ever met those D-class. Two D-class are then prepped for SCP-XXXX’s standard testing, however one of the two, a non-violent criminal, is introduced to SCP-XXXX before hand. The tests are then performed consecutively.

(see attached documentation for further testing logs)

Addendum XXXX-A:

On October [REDACTED] Dr. Autumn made a request to Site Directors for greater leniency in the provision of furnishings and recreation to SCP-XXXX, stating
“As far as we can tell SCP-XXXX’s effective range is infinite, and we have no way of stopping it. In the strictest terms, the kid is a security threat. And that’s when he’s sane and on our side” -Dr. Autumn
As of November [REDACTED] all relevant staff, are to prioritize the mental well being of SCP-XXXX secondary only to its continued containment
Incident report XXXX-12-16

Incident report 12-16:

Ground zero of incident 12-16: 12/08/[REDACTED]
12/08/20XX 11:43
SCP-XXXX is introduced to a D-class, screened as a non-threat by on site psychologists assigned to SCP-XXXX. The screen had to be done on site due to the unrelated circumstances. (note: suggestion was made by junior researcher [REDACTED] to postpone testing until terminal access resumed. Postponing of test was deemed unnecessary by Dr. Autumn). The purpose of the test was to establish whether SCP-XXXX’s ability to perceive distant locations would become more vivid via extended social interaction with the observer. The D-class used, designated D-443, was able to pass pretest screening as a result of manipulative and sociopathic tendencies, along with several psychological qualities that would otherwise make D-443 unqualified for testing with SCP-XXXX, such as violent and often pedophilic tendencies. Notes of onsite psychologist, Megan [REDACTED] attached for full conversation log and assessment (addendum 8118-C). Once the error was recognized testing was terminated and D-443 was returned to his D-class holding cell. At an unknown point in these events, containment procedures are broken and D-443 is not administered an amnestic. Psychological council was provided to SCP-XXXX personally by Dr. Autumn. Request made for D-443’s termination. Request denied by Site Director [REDACTED] since D-443 was still healthy enough for future tests, but consideration would be made for D-443’s use in later Keter level testing.

12/09/20XX 18:23
At this time, D-443 activated SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effect through conversation with another D-class during designated social time. Due to SCP-XXXX’s newly discovered, and poorly understood secondary effect, a transcription of the conversation may not be printed or replicated. To summarize, D-443 made comments on how “cute” SCP-XXXX looked when scared, and what he would do to SCP-XXXX if given the chance. D-443 then complains about a sudden splitting headache and changes the subject of conversation.

12/10/20XX 9:33
D-443 exhibits heightened paranoia and fatigue. When asked to exit his cell for routine inspection D-443 reflexively swings at a Foundation Guard and is immediately detained. interview log with D-class disciplinary personnel can not be shown due to mention of SCP-XXXX, and the suggestive comments D-443 says regarding it. D-443 expresses extreme duress and claims that it couldn’t sleep at all the previous night because “the eyes on the inside of my skull keep staring at my brain”. The outburst is disregarded and D-443 is disciplined and sent back to his cell.

12/14/20XX 12:44
As observed through surveillance footage, D-443 is still incapable of sleep but fails to exhibit any of the physical signs of sleep deprivation, such as lack of stamina, while the progression of his mental deterioration accelerates exponentially. Subject becomes acutely aware of his surroundings and falls into more manic and obsessive behaviors. As time progresses, more of D-443’s ravings begin to fixate on SCP-XXXX, seemingly blaming it for his condition. D-443 is moved to an isolation cell for security and safety reasons. On site Psychiatrist, Megan [REDACTED] attempts to console SCP-XXXX, as it must be disturbed from observing D-443’s rantings, but SCP-XXXX claims that it hasn’t “watched” D-443 since the ninth.

12/16/20XX 9:15
D-443 begins displaying bulimic behaviors, forcing himself to vomit repeatedly into the toilet of his cell. After one hour of self-induced vomiting and repeated defecation, D-443 crumples onto his bed, becoming unresponsive for two hours, remaining totally awake. Additionally, the toilet in his cell is clogged and overflowing with biomass, and the cell itself is covered in excrement and bile. A site physician is sent to assess and treat D-443, who attacks and kills the doctor, by ripping out his throat with his teeth. D-443 searches the physician for a weapon while Foundation Staff lock-down the area and dispatch armed personnel to terminate D-443. D-443 begins to rampage through the isolation wing, all the while masticating on his own lips and performing other acts of self-mutilation. D-443 kills three D-class and two noncombat staff in the process before being intercepted and killed by armed personnel. Surviving staff report D-443 as being feral and completely unresponsive to communication. Furthermore, armed guards claim that D-443 was smiling when they opened fire on him, as if he was relieved.

Addendum: Dr. Winters made note of how similar the progression of symptoms and behavior D-443 was to the nurse who had attempted to kill SCP-XXXX before its containment. Upon further research, researchers found that there were similar, though less extreme, cases of psychological regression in staff and patients at the hospital where SCP-XXXX was discovered. It is currently hypothesized, that any communications perceived anomalously by SCP-XXXX, that SCP-XXXX interprets as threatening or aggressive triggers a subsequent Cognito-hazard to be planted into the observer. (Testing of this theory is still under review by the Ethics Committee.) Furthermore, it seems that SCP-XXXX was completely unaware of this effect, and its primary anomaly ceases to effect individuals who possess this planted Cognito-hazard.

The following is a letter written to the Ethics Committee by Dr. Niles Walter Autumn

As much of a prick Dr. Winters is, I have to agree. Obviously, these reactions are bolstered by unstable cognitions, but the theory holds water. I did a little research and found out that the nurse who tried to kill XXXXclawed her cellmate’s eyes out and hung herself in her cell. A lot of the kids in that hospital have become unresponsive to. Even without testing I think it’s safe to conclude that XXXX possesses one of the most variable Cognito-hazards to date, differing in effect seemingly based on age, psychology and who knows what else. That’s why I suggest we hold off on further testing indefinitely. We know too little about this clearly dangerous Cognito-hazard to go poking it with a stick. We have too much to risk and too little to benefit. I suggest that we continue to prioritize the psychological treatment of SCP-XXXX. A child’s idea of a threat can change, and so far, it’s just bullies, crazy religious nuts, and pedophiles. I suggest we keep it that way.

~Dr. Niles W. Autumn

The following is a letter to the Ethics Committee by Dr. Alexander Napoleon Winters

With all due respect to my colleague, Dr. Autumn, I urge you to disregard his request to suspend testing. Niles is an immature, oafish, sentimental coward, who is too concerned with the safety of SCPs and D-class, to do his duty to science and mankind. It is true that this secondary anomaly is volatile and that we understand very little about it, but that is why the Foundation is run by scientists, and not bleeding-heart Doctor of Psychology. If given the opportunity, and priority clearance over Niles Autumn, I will conduct a series of gradual, safe, and deliberate tests to ascertain the exact extent and parameters regarding SCP-XXXX’s newfound anomaly, as a scientist would. It is to the greater benefit to the Foundation and man kind that a series of small calculated risks be taken, as apposed to a single massive risk, such as leaving SCP-XXXX’s secondary effect untested. I am sure that those of you on the Ethics Committee, and should this letter reach them, those that sit on the O-5 Council will be inclined to agree.

Sincerely,
Dr. Alexander Napoleon Winters
