NOTICE FROM THE INTERNAL OFFICE OF THE ETHICS COMMITTEE
SCP-XXXX is currently under review for the possibility of organized use in Foundation affairs. All ongoing experiments and projects at Site-XXXX are hereby suspended.
Site-XXXX is hereby reassigned as Special Site-ETXXXX and all further testing is limited to Clearance Level 4 or higher.
— JEREMIAH CIMMERMAN
EFECTIVE: 8-19-2020
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be guarded by a minimum of 15 security officers possessing Level 3 clearance or higher. Each guard is to circle the parameter of SCP-XXXX's property along the interior fence. Trees and foliage are to be planted and maintained along the perimeter so that SCP-XXXX remains obstructed from view by any observer outside of the fenced perimeter. Surveillance camera units are to be installed in the foliage with motion detection hardware.
The south facade of SCP-XXXX near dusk
Observation Site-XXXX is to be located precisely 23.2 meters south of SCP-XXXX's front facade. All camera monitoring activities, test subject holdings, and personnel lodging are to be housed in this structure.
A field agent is to be permanently assigned to the site of SCP-XXXX under the alias of Logan Billings who will act as the legal resident of SCP-XXXX possessing all legal documentation of citizenship and residence ownership. The agent will leave through the main gate of the property in a Foundation authorized vehicle and visit local businesses at least twice a week.
Class A and B personnel may not enter SCP-XXXX unless another subject is currently inside of it and confirmed to be alive. All personnel must undergo full psychological assessment before going within a 21.2 meter radius of SCP-XXXX.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 19th century Victorian mansion completed in 1889 located at 5 Seaward Rd. Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is approximately 2,320 square meters in area spanning three floors: a ground floor, a second floor, and an attic space. It is constructed of quarried granite and roofed with red tile. Its architectural design includes 4 ridge turrets, 7 chimneys, and a verandah occupying the exterior of the ground floor. SCP-XXXX is located on a 15 acre plot of land which is encircled by a 3 meter high cast iron fence with one gate located where the driveway exits the property.
The mansion was built by sea merchant and millionaire Bruce Hester as a gift for his wife, Endora Julian Hester. Historical records show that the construction process of the mansion was managed by a total of fifteen head contractors. Of note, three named are Michael Mason Marshall, Colin Culver Carter, and Darren Darke Dark, all of which are confirmed pseudonyms.
At any point in which a subject goes within 21.2 meters of SCP-XXXX's external walls or supports, all lights within the mansion will simultaneously illuminate and remain lit for approximately 12 seconds before darkening. Then various lights will illuminate once again. If the subject, hereby known as SCP-XXXX-A, enters the mansion through any opening, a unique internal layout is found including a varying number of rooms and individuals.
SCP-XXXX-A will feel a comfort and familiarity once inside. Each room and all entities located within it match some psychological component of SCP-XXXX-A and will in some way express their interests, thoughts, and perspectives. The one consistency regardless of who SCP-XXXX-A is at any given time is the presence of the mansion's library. Its location within the mansion will vary but it is consistently present unlike any other room is. The library room contains a multitude of books holding all knowledge and memory of SCP-XXXX-A.
Any person is able to enter SCP-XXXX without any effects if an instance of SCP-XXXX-A is already present within the 21.2 meter radius. The person is able to explore the current layout and iteration of SCP-XXXX so long as SCP-XXXX-A remains within the radius. Anyone remaining in the mansion when SCP-XXXX-A exits the radius will disappear along with the unique iteration of SCP-XXXX's interior and will only reappear if that specific person reenters the radius.
When SCP-XXXX-A exits the radius, all lights within the mansion will instantly illuminate and then go dark.

I write to you from the bustling streets of Charleston. So great has my luck at sea been that all I can say is that our comforts here and in the future have now been assured three if not four times over! Yet, I am saddened that I am so far from you. I know Nova Scotia does not compare to the vibrant graces of London, but our new home has brought us so much fortune that our future children will assuredly benefit from as well. I am afraid that given the current market here in the American south, that I will be unable to return to you as we had planned for New Years Eve. Even though we shall remain apart for a little longer, I wish to tell you of a present that is to come in this new year just for you. I am preparing a special place for you away from the foul and dirty alleys of Halifax where you can be happy and never lonely. It cost me a great sum but it is all worth it for you my darling flower.
By this time next year, your special home away from home will be complete, and I shall be there by your side to enjoy it with you. I will be on the open seas again in a matter of three days and shall remain so for at least two months. If I do not have the chance to write you again, have a joyous New Years, My Love.
Always yours,
Bruce

I can not think of anything now but those stories you have told me again and again about all your so called friends that you have come to spend all of your time with. This business venture I am pursuing in Boston was of the utmost importance, and yet what seems most imperative is getting you to live again. There is more to this grand world of ours than that manor out in the country! You know I was fond of walking through its halls and seeing all those beautiful oak adornments and cigar rooms when I passed through, but still I feel happiest out in the seas where my men work beside me for the daily catch. You must realize, Endora, that the manor is no more than an illusion while Halifax, Canada, and the rest of the world is the reality. Return to Earth with me, My Dear, so that we can be happy like in the days of London. I beg of you to visit Dr. Raymond so that he can help you restore your peace in mind as well as spirit. Do it for me, Endora, I plead.
In highest love & concern,
Bruce

It has been too long since I have written to you, brother. I live more and more in the past, in those days of boyhood running through the Yorkshire countryside, so far from the perils of Nova Scotia and a cursed future. I cannot say that I am in my right mind anymore. The manor has deprived me of that, and now it has deprived me of my wife. Six days ago from the time I am writing, I went out to the manor to visit Endora for she had been there for two weeks now. It was certainly normal as she could go a month inside, barely eating or sleeping. However, on this fateful day I arrived to the manor to find it asleep and inactive… There was no one inside. I fear the worst, for the manor requires a living being to do what it does, so if she for some reason passed while inside then she is to be gone forever. As a husband I am not only deprived of my good wife but also the dignity of burying her and letting go.
I guess it is the ultimate price for my life at sea. So many nights she could have worried that I would be lost over the deep and perish without a burial as well. I think Endora is lost at sea now, though it is not the water that claimed her. It is the waves of mind and imagination I have to blame as her killer. How I have come to hate those artists who think and put their most interior visions on paper. I've seen visions of the mind much more vivid than they can even hope of and I know the hell it causes. Those painters and playwrights might as well be asking to drown.
Regardless, brother, I am coming home to you. I have had enough of this new world and am returning to the countrysides of Yorkshire where I should have stayed before I strayed off to London and then Nova Scotia. I shall ask the seas one last time to be on my side as I venture home. I want nothing more to do with the manor so I shall have it sold and let the new party figure out it peculiarities for themselves. Maybe they will be wiser than Endora or I ever were. God I pray. I am homeward bound, Jordan, and my life shall begin again.
Your faithful older brother,
Bruce, The Broken

Item found beneath tile on the third step of SCP-XXXX's main stoopMy Heart, Bruce,
If you ever find this note, it means that you are perhaps searching the manor for signs of my disappearance. Know that my love for you is as strong as it has ever been and that my disappearance from our world was a mutual decision between me and the manor. The years I spent with its occupants such as Renaldi and Winnefred have paid off to such a degree that the manor now trusts me as a friend and an ally. All along, we were under the impression that this shared wondrous home of ours was only a mirror for our thoughts and personal natures. In fact, the manor knows so much more than just who enters it.
Whoever helped you to build this place, Bruce, used their talents to build not only an object capable of entertainment or self exploration, but a defensive garrison. My conversations with Renaldi in the eastern salon have proved fruitful in understanding all of this. The manor is part of an invisible war and so I was offered an invitation to help the people of the manor in their fight for good.
I have spent most of my life waiting in dark dusty rooms hoping for your safety and awaiting my good husband's return from his dangerous adventures over the deep. For once, I felt that my very own potential had been recognized by the people of the manor. The true tragedy is that at that same time it was the first instance I saw that same potential in myself. I knew you loved me too much to let me go, especially if it were to be a dangerous affair, and so I decided to consider the matter on my own. I accepted the invitation and have been taught the manor's transport abilities. I can never return to the manor as it appears in Halifax for it would be a liability if I was captured by the manor's enemies and meant to seek its keys.
I can finally be the sort of wife that you deserved, and the woman you always wanted to be. I will be brave and fight for this important goal. I have said so much and yet can say no more lest it endanger you. As I place this note of my love here under the step, I embark into the manor on a new adventure.
With all the love in the world,
Your Sweet Endora

Interviewed: Nicholas Feister [Security Officer]
Interviewer: Dr. Haley Winder [Site Director of Site-XXXX]
Foreword: This debriefing follows the events of Experiment XXXX-39
<Begin Log>
Winder: Well, Nicholas, that was quite the drama wasn't it! You seem to have gotten through it alright.
Feister: I feel lucky to still be here, ma'am. Is D-45986 doing ok?
Winder: Yes, despite her injuries she is expected to make a full recovery. If you can, I would like you to recount to me the events that transpired after you both entered SCP-XXXX.
Feister: Well, the inside of the house looked quite bizarre. There was an entry foyer and hallway that looked pretty normal but every room was starkly different from the others. The first door to the right of the front door seemed to be a sitting room, but everything was charred as if it had all burned recently. We didn't enter not knowing the risks so we tried the door right across from it on the left side of the main entry and it looked like a children's play room, but there were at least seven grown men and women inside acting like toddlers.
Winder: How interesting. I can say that I have not seen this level of absurdity in the house before. Then again we don't bring individuals such as D-45986 inside very often if at all. Were you briefed on her background any?
Feister: I was told she suffered from a few mental disorders but nothing more than that.
Winder: Well I guess it doesn't hurt to let you in on the secret. D-45986 experiences Dissociative Identity Disorder which means her brand has divided her consciousness into distinct personas in order to compartmentalize trauma she experienced from past events. This begins to explain how these manifestations in SCP-XXXX are so distinct and abnormal.
Feister: I see, well that explains a lot. We were only able to make it into one more room beyond the nursery. It had some french doors on the opposite side of the room that led to some sort of lounge space. There was a man in fully black tie attire playing at a grand piano while a couple danced together behind him. There was no rhyme or reason to the music as it just sounded like random notes.
Winder: And how was D-45986 responding to all of these images?
Feister: She just seemed dazed and mainly unresponsive. She looked like she was trying to make sense of everything, as if it was vaguely familiar but she remained quiet and dazed.
Winder: So is this where the incident began?
Feister: Yes, the pianist noticed us and began laughing as if he was happy to see us. The couple dancing followed suit and began applauding us. Suddenly a woman with blonde hair in a long red coat rushed into the room from the toy room. She immediately noticed D-45986 and began laughing too. Slowly she got closer until she stopped right in front of us, ceased laughing, and simply said: "You are too weak to be in here." Then she swiped a dagger from the interior of her coat and began stabbing at D-45986. She managed to get three blows until I pushed her away and dragged D-45986 back through the nursery and through the hall and front door.
Winder: Why, that is quite disturbing.
Feister: Yes! The only thing I could think of during it all is the possibility of being killed or trapped by the house if D-45986 died while I was in there. It was truly some of the most horrific seconds of my life, and I've seen some things in my time.
Winder: Don't you worry Mr. Feister. Your mandatory one time tour of duty through Site-XXXX has come to an end! I can't say your experience was one of the more positive experiments, but here you are, heart beating and everything!
Feister: I consider myself lucky ma'am.
Winder: As you should. I'll put in a word to have you reassigned somewhere with a little more peace.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: D-45986 retired from active Foundation service / Security Officer Nicholas Feister reassigned to Area-02.

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE

SUBJECT: ON THE ADVANTAGES AND POSSIBLE USES OF SCP-XXXX
[BEGIN LOG]
We have had access to SCP-XXXX for years now and with all that time and effort put in, I am ready to officially endorse SCP-XXXX's use for Foundation projects. I have completed the 483rd experiment with SCP-XXXX and am now ready to make the case for how it is both beneficial and safe.
Firstly, SCP-XXXX is a prime subject for information abstraction. The fabricated interior atmosphere is almost always filled with characters that are more than willing to divulge information about their counterpart. Now, there are certain characters who may be hostile or even willing to kill but over the course of all tests such an instance has only occurred in 6.2% of uses factoring in only unique individuals. The mansion's library provides access to information that could otherwise remain unable to be extracted so long as the individual is homo sapiens.
Secondly, SCP-XXXX is a reliable means of containment. Any object or person left inside when SCP-XXXX-A exits remains present and trapped in that iteration of the mansion until the same SCP-XXXX-A returns within the surrounding radius. More reliable iterations of the mansion can be mapped and used to store anything from SCPs to uncooperative PoIs. Despite spending so much time with SCP-XXXX, I remain convinced that its potential remains untapped. I am hoping with the help and support of the powers that be, it can be better utilized and understood with a foundational context. Until then, our efforts here will continue as before.
